Another excellent tutorial on today's incredibly capable but somewhat complex and confusing auto focus systems. For years I ran custom boat tours for nature and wildlife photographers and I lost count of how many times I discovered that they had literally no understanding of how their camera's autofocus systems worked. It may be time consuming and at times frustrating to fully understand the many focusing options available in your camera but it is essential that you do so as these features will if set incorrectly totally destroy image quality. Watch this video 4 times then read your camera's manual 4 more. Then experiment and find the settings that work best for you!

G'day Sabine. Well I have just finished watching this vid and I have to say that in my opinion I consider it excellent and right on target. Because I have had a little trouble with sharpness in my sport images I have spent the afternoon going through quite a few videos on using Autofocus for sport, action and wildlife. For me, apart from the fact that your a lot easier on the eye than the blokes I have been watching, yours was the best, the points you raised were both just what I needed and straight to the point without a lot of waffle. I haven't been to The Chobe but I have been to The Etosha in Namibia but that was during 1998/90 when I served with the Australian Army on a UN Mission so I really didn't have the time to enjoy it to the fullest. Loved the country and always wanted to go back. PS: Love you accent !! 😀

I like Case 4 and Case 2 for football.Case 2 will stick on the subject but has difficult time acquiring a new subject.Case 3 acquires a subject quickly but doesn't stick on subject.I never use Case 5 or 6.I feel it is asking more from camera than it is designed for. Hi Ramniwas. Thanks for watching and commenting! I haven't had the chance to try mirror less cameras extensively to give a proper opinion but I do think that they are the way forward and will make focusing so much easier (e.g. animal eye-detection). Sabine, I see that many have already commented on your excellent training video and I wholeheartedly agree! I'm a technical trainer myself and have to say you have presented these focusing topics better than anyone I've seen. Your teaching technique promotes ease of learning through "best" order of topics, from simple to complex, presenting the problem to be addressed by each setting, easy-to-understand, unhurried "translations" of the technical terms, presenting live views of the results of the settings to reinforce the concept, explaining the pros and cons of each setting and including your personal choice along with the reasons. I've seen several Pangolin tutorials and they all are well designed and well presented. The Pangolin staff have apparently been well-trained in delivering educational presentations. Can you tell me anything about that training? Thank you for such a wonderful, educational experience! I look forward to all the Pangolin tutorials. Once the pandemic is under control, I will consider a trip to Africa to join one of your photographic safari's.

Hi Joao. In AI servo mode there isn't any beep as it would mean the camera would beep constantly as focus is constant too. So nothing is wrong with your camera. If you go back to single shot you will be able to hear the beep if enabled in your red menu. Hope this helps!!! - Sabine

Can someone suggest what's the best for Aviation photography? Thanks!
@PangolinWildlife3 жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony. This isn't my field of expertise but I guess planes move quick too so I'd recommend shooting in AI servo (Continues AF) mode and since you mostly shoot against the sky a larger AF-zone should work nicely. If you then set your tracking sensitivity to -2 focus should be locked on the plane once you initially achieved it. If you however want to quickly switch between different aircraft's you can change the sensitivity to 0 or even to the + side. I hope this helps you! - Sabine
