As someone who's been driving a base model car from 2010 for the past 12 years, I have a very different perspective. I was very impressed with this car most of the way through the video. Almost every complaint he has either didn't register to me as a problem at all or I just don't care about. Plastic panels? My car has worse. Gotta press a button to unlock? Honestly that's how I prefer it. Heated and ventilated seats in front and back is awesome, you almost never see that. A terrible UI in the car? It has Android Auto, and a backup camera, so it's already a massive upgrade over what I got. Honestly this video sold me on this car as a good budget option, with no real significant downsides (for me), until he said it cost $50,000. I was assuming this was a budget car so it was more affordable. Suddenly those minor nitpicks and complaints seem more reasonable for such an expensive car.
@Miniac1076
@Miniac1076 6 ай бұрын
I can totally understand that perspective when comparing it feature-wise to something that old. Anything from 2024 is going to be a massive upgrade compared to what you have. The problem is that, when you are looking at a new car, you need to try and remember to compare it to what else is available on the market. There are much better options for an EV in this price bracket (Ioniq 5, EV6, Polestar 2, etc), which is what he was getting at. That's just something to be aware of, because just thinking "it's better than what I have now" is an easy way to wind up with something that, while it is an improvement over what you have, is a bad deal or even a bad product in terms of the market in general.

I worked at Vinfast’s first NA store and god it had its issues. It’s improved a lot though, I test drove it a couple months back. Although the price point at face value is pretty high, you could lease it for like 250 a month which is crazy

that fan blowing might be a feature some cars have of blowing air through the vents after you lock your car, to prevent moisture and any growth. my new hyundai has it too, sometimes i come back into the car after a quick errand and the fans are still going. vinfast is from vietnam where it’s pretty humid so it might be that!

That doesn’t make sense. Cool air-conditioned air is dry (very low humidity). If you’re gonna blow air from outside, you’re gonna fill it with humid air. Given that the cabin is still cold right after you stop the car, what you’ll get is condensation inside your cabin. You might be right about ventilating new air into the cabin to avoid smell but it definitely does not remove moisture

I've actually driven this car, unlike most of the commenters who I suspect are regurgitating other content creators' opinions, and I gotta agree with you. No, it's not exceptional in any sense of the word, but it's... fine. Certainly it's not the utter disaster some commenters seem to believe it is, at least. It's a mediocre transportation appliance whose biggest flaw is the asking price relative to the competition-- at $30-35k it would actually measure up. But if I bought (or more likely, leased) this car and gave it to my mom to replace her aging CRV, she would drive it without complaint, with the one wildcard being reliability of course.

I would never buy a Vinfast in it's current state. But compared to Fisker, I respect the effort they went through to try and rapidly address some of the issues like suspension. That they would go so far as to implement hardware changes and retrofits, not just software updates, I think speaks to how hard they're trying. Could have saved themselves a lot of headache with more testing, but there's still something commendable in the company. Hope they learn from this and their future launches are more compelling.

I will go out on a limb and say many (not all) Vietnamese people are bad at naming and branding. For example, 'Vina' is a common prefix in brand names here, from big brands to small ones. It's fine most of the time. VinFast, on the other hand, I can picture the Chairman/CEO, or someone high up, in his office, thinking Vin for Vingroup (the parent company), and Fast because it's a car brand, and going 'aha!', while mispronouncing it as Vin-Phat. They justify it by saying VinFast is actually an acronym but I believe it's a backronym, because most of Vingroup's companies all have 'Vin' in front of it, like VinBigData, VinUniversity, VinSchool, VinFa. I've mentioned it to my (Vietnamese) friends, and they seemingly can't understand why I see it as a problem when it comes to branding and pronunciation.

I've hated the trend in UI (particularly championed by Tesla) to make EVERYTHING different shades of gray. It is incredibly un-intuitive especially when driving. Colours may look "clownish", but they let you determine what you're looking at quickly without the need to focus on it. Some egregious examples in our Tesla: Is Bluetooth connected? Light gray for 'on', Very light gray for 'off'. (could easily put a blue oval behind the icon for 'on') Is a button toggled on, off or is it disabled? All 3 button states are just different shades of gray. On the map, water is gray, land is light gray, buildings are very light gray. The screen can display millions of colours, but the only colour being used is gray. I'll take the clown show any day.

Loud beeping noise should be sufficient. At best a speed limit. Saw a vid recently where a lady couldn't get her car off the train track. Old lady. People weren't sure if it was because she was clueless in general, or couldn't get the car moving in a panic because one of these BS features. In general, bricking the car is a stupid, stupid idea. Sensors can be wrong, it can be bypassed, it can be faulty, and it introduces a MASSIVE liability for the manufacturer should a critical situation arise. Imagine driving a loved one to a hospital, but something was off with the sensor, and the car would not start. Not something you want to ever potentially happen. Technology and developers have taken a very concerning "I know it all" approach. Louis Rossman even describe it as a "rapist mentality". Controls are taken from the user, options are slowly stripping, with any edge cases the developers did not anticipate becoming a royal pain to the end user. Just not a good trend in general. Rules and regulations are written in blood, because people did not anticipate everything that could happen, until it happens. Developers playing god, making decisions as if they're omniscient, is not something to celebrate.

Japanese and Korean cars succeeded because they were cheap and they improved their reputation. People laughed at Japanese cars in the 70s for being cheap, small, and lacking in power. However, the oil crises quickly put an end to that: _Within a decade_ the Japanese automotive industry became feared. In contrast, Korean cars were laughed at for being cheap, ugly, and unreliable. It took them _two_ decades to _start_ to get over that reputation and that was after they became more serious about hiring engineers, designers, and executives from more established companies. Also, at the same time the 2008 global financial crisis helped move _cheap_ cars. The common point between those two cases is that they were cheap. If the price is low enough, people will buy them. Look at how many people fly Spirit despite loathing them. On the other hand, VinFast is not cheap. At 47k before tax and docs there are plenty of lower priced options, both ICE and EV. Without a cheaper car, there's no reason to suspect that VinFast will repeat the cycle you propose. It's far more likely for Chinese automakers to be next.

“Shocking similarities with the Fisker”, the problem with that statement is that the VinFast doesn’t have any solar roof panel, the size is similar however it’s very subjective. The whole idea of “depreciative flagship” just because of the apps and the UI, again very subjective, guess what MKBHD it’s not a Tesla, other Automotive OEMS are going to have its own UI and icons are different. Maybe you should contact the VinFast CEO and have an interview with her and tell her your concerns on how the UI and icons can be updated instead of a four year old Android tablet and overall brand can be better instead of just bashing the brand. I do agree that the camera frame rate is not great but compared to the Mustang Mach E, Vinfast is better. I think that also you mentioned the different Drive Modes and how the vehicle can’t build up instantaneous torque it’s because the EV weighs 5600 lbs and the composite of steel and aluminum so it would seem it’s very top heavy and as a result takes sacrifice on performance but makes up in safety, some people would be ok with that. I think the Vegan Leather looks good, maybe the placement of the leather in front of the steering wheel seems odd but at least it’s not like a cookie cutter sterile Tesla interior and has a little character. Also at 13:31 you mentioned you would take the VinFast VF8, compared to what??

@@pablojams5152 yeah it depends on the car but mostly it depends on it's age. very very recent cars have much more realistic security than even slightly older ones. there's no specific regulation for this and the companies basically assumed security by ignorance would work every time a new feature is introduced. like first generation of press button on your fob to unlock had a simple non encrypted key that it sent identically every time. now it's all rolling single use encrypted key. proximity based fobs are generally caught up for a brand new car. but I don't see it as a benefit so I would rather not have this additional hackable entry point on my car. every form of security grows obsolete...

TBH... if the software is "bad" because you don't like the graphics then LOL. It didn't seem that bad and compared to VW EV's or just older cars in general, it's good. In the end most of the usage of the screen will be setting the music, HVAC and navigation (usually being google maps). If it does these things well, it's good enough and everything else is just a plus. It really is unfortunate though that this is the state of automotive software that it being functional is "good", kind of frustrating. The framerate of cameras is eh, but at the same time it does not matter that much. About driving though, that does matter - safety aids should not be annoying and the driver should feel confident driving the car at least somewhat sportily at 50K. One more thing - Tesla not including a HUD is a travesty, I have not heard of a single customer or a reviewer not wishing for it, at best they will settle, but if this was an option priced around 1K or even more, most buyers would option for a HUD. It really surprises me that Tesla did not add it in the refresh as it would remove the last nag from customers. At least there are after market solutions.

As a new product of a new car company, VinFast always tries to bring the best to car buyers. According to those who have bought VF8, very few people complain about the quality of the car, it's just that the software is not yet complete. If you come to Vietnam, you will see VinFast cars running on the road a lot with cheaper costs than other famous car companies. I haven't tested their autopilot yet, but I see other reviewers love their autopilot. Therefore, I might consider buying this car due to its 10 years warranty and bumper to bumper. Before we compare to other EV, we must also compare the warranty. Buying a car with 10 years warranty is the same price as buying cars with 4-5 years warranty. I just did a test drive of the VF eight 2024 I’ve just driven a whole bunch of EV’s in the last two weeks and because of where this sits on its lease price and then your buyout if you do wanna buy it, I think I’m gonna go for this car I Gotta say my comparison and really reality is my ford Cmax that I drive all the time the other cars that are the competitors because the lease price is so good on this. They really aren’t competitors right now. This is the cheapest car and I like it the things that he’s complain about in this I don’t have any considerations or concerns with it. It’s not an issue for me so I don’t have a problem I think if, it’s convinced me that he drives way fancier cars than I’ve ever driven and for me to be the first electric to get into my house. This is the right price range for me with the lease option that they have and I think I’m gonna go for it.

Comparing this to an EV6 or Ioniq 5, which can be had for basically the same price and are quicker, handle better, charge faster, and have longer range, it's hard to consider this... And tech is decent in those as well (especally when the new ccNC infotainment rolls out for the refreshes this year).

Ive considered those as well when evaluating comparable. But where I am, the total final price the Vinfast comes in notacibly less expensive when you add in all the features and options that the plus version gives you. And that doesnt even factor in 10 year bumper to bumper warranty. Try selling the KIA or Hyundai in 5 years, with no guarantees to your buyer instead of another 5 year guarantee no repair or replacement costs plus labour for a vehicle.
