It blows me away how light and powerful this vehicle was in the 60s...

The 68, 69 winning car was powered by a 302 cid V8 and it was right hand drive. Rule changes in 68 limited displacement to 5 liters.

David - your car is amazing! The GT40 is one of my favorite cars of all time. I got to meet Carroll Shelby at Laguna Seca back in the 80's The story behind the GT40 is epic and inspiring. I love the smooth lines of this version that won in '69, The Gulf paint job is iconic and beautiful too.

@SoCal Auto Focus Chris, thank you. You're so fortunate to have met Carroll Shelby. I never had the pleasure. I love the Mk I too. The reason I got this car is because I used to play with a toy GT40 in Gulf Livery in 1969 when I was 12 years old, and when I found out that Superformance was building them again, I just had to have one. Superformance GT40s are built under license from the company that owns all rights to the GT40, are built from the original drawings and molds, can be registered in the GT40 registry, and can be raced in vintage races as a GT40. The chassis number even continues from the original build numbers, which is why these cars are referred to as continuation cars and not replicas. So this is a real GT40 - it just wasn’t built in 1968 and cost seven figures. Mine is chassis number GT40P/2358.

David - thank you for sharing your story - I'm so glad you were able to make you boyhood dream come true! Thank you for clarifying that you GT40 is a continuation vehicle and not a replica. I corrected the video title and description to read "continuation" and chassis number. Have you entered your GT40 in any vintage car race events like Laguna Seca? Next time I see you with your GT40 I will introduce myself.

I don’t know why people use the ROUSH valve cover gaskets and air cleaners unless Roush is paying them for the advertising. Otherwise it’s a beautiful example.
@CL600Sport3 жыл бұрын
Hello Billy; Lol, no, Roush is not paying me. I’m simply running Roush’s engine. It’s a fantastic, brutally fast engine that was designed on go into a GT40 when specified (again, not a paid endorsement, haha). The valve covers clear the “bundle of snakes” exhaust and the baffled oil pan and front end of the engine fits right into the car. Here’s a link to the engine: www.roushperformance.com/engines/427-ir.html
