Chris and I will post another video once the Turbo S is broken in and we'll include similar driving scenes and one or two launch control runs. I'm looking forward to it because even shifting manually at 4,000 RPM is quite spectacular.

Hi Richard I really enjoyed your owner review. I like how you optioned your TTS. I shot a video of a Green TTS next to a Blue TTS and the Blue had the High Gloss Black accents and it really gives it a great look. I am hoping to get a TTS in the future, either Race Yellow or Guards Red, the kids don’t want me buying another red car but I like red the best. I read the 992 Turbo S forum looking for ideas all the time.

Hi MXTV125, Thanks for your comment. Like you, I spent a lot of time of the Rennlist 992 Turbo/Turbo S forum looking at the thread “Post pictures of your new TT/TTS here”. Are you looking at Rennlist? I almost forgot about Sixspeedonline that I used to check out in the past, but not recently. I had a red M3 in the mid-90s and I loved the car in that color. My wife will kill me the next time I shout out: “Look at that red car!” I rarely see a late-model 911 Turbo or Turbo S, even here in SoCal, and I’ve only seen one red TTS, and that one was in Carmine Red. It looked really sharp. There are a couple of really sharp red 911s on the photos thread. I think the black accents would really pop, but I wouldn’t do the rear Porsche logo in black and I’d get black calipers vs. yellow. I am totally amazed by this car and can’t wait until it’s broken in so I can really appreciate the power and torque. Stay tuned to Chris’ SoCal Auto Focus KZbin channel, because after the car is broken in, I’ll do a video with Chris where I demonstrate launch control and drive the same roads as I did in the GT3 video at the pinned link that Chris posted at the top of the comments and in a subsequent video entitled “one-year review”. All the best in your future TTS purchase, and if you want to run any ideas by Chris and me, just shoot us another reply. Cheers!

@@AutoFocusChannel I really appreciate it! I currently have a C7 GS which I drive often and do occasional track events in. I have a reservation in on a C8 Z06, which is as much car as I can afford currently. Were the Turbo (or even the 992 GTS) in the same price range, I would have a lot harder time picking the Z, but there's nothing with that level of power/performance for the low 6 figures. Someday though, I'll have that Turbo S in my garage, just not quite yet. I run a small YT channel on cars (~1500 subs) and it's nice to hear from those bigger and more experienced than I and share our passion of cars. Have a nice day! -Fred

So For everyday comfort and speed The Turbo S has it all. But for track days and caynon carving the GT3 seems a better fit due to its weight and Gearing and HP even though lower it will feel like the CRX !! It will feel and sound more aggressive. Its matter of choice. I still buy the NSX because its faster then the GT3 and at also has comfort and performance. But after that its a toss up for the GT3 or the Turbo S??

Thanks for the great review, Quick question….you didn’t mention if your car is SPASM or PASM. It seems to be quite a divisive topic with some of the reviewers here in England saying the SPASM is just too firm on less than perfect roads…..probably not an issue for you as the OC has buttery smooth pavement (I know Pelican Hill very well). I’m looking at a couple of cars, the Turbo S being one of them, the problem is being able to compare PASM vs SPASM as supply is such an issue at the moment that there simply aren’t demonstrators available to compare.
@At_The_Glen
@At_The_Glen 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, Thanks for your reply. I have PASM and am totally satisfied with it. Coming from a 991.2 GT3, I originally spec'd S-PASM as I liked the stiffness of the GT3 and often had the suspension in Sport/Track mode. Like you, I was unable to drive a car with S-PASM, but I did speak with two managers whom I trust, one at a Virginia dealership where I purchased this 911, and another in CA where I purchased my three previous 911s. Both recommended against it. The CA general manager who has a 992 GT3 and previously owned a Cayman GT4 said that when ordering a Carrera S for daily use, he did not order S-PASM and recommended that I not do it. S-PASM would make sense for someone intending to do a lot of track days with the car, and I would expect that they would order all the lightweight options that Porsche offers reflecting their GT infusion into the new 992 Turbo S. I was influenced by an article in Car & Driver magazine (if I can find the comment, I'll post it here). The author complained about the ride being too stiff and, as I recall, bouncy. I also recall comments about ride in videos from "Harry's Garage" (Harry Metcalf) and "The Car Guys". I had posted a comment asking if the car had S-PASM given the reviewers comments but did not get a response. If you do a KZbin search on something like "Porsche 911 992 Turbo S" + "The Car Guys" it should pop up. In the Car Guys video, I left a rather long message on this subject. Also, I do not like the look of the lowered TTS even though the difference is very small. Also, in posts on Rennlist.com by those whose cars have S-PASM, the owners often speak about reducing their tire pressures to improve ride quality. What?! I suspect that a bunch of very highly paid Porsche engineers have decided that tire pressures need to be high to support the side wall and tire bead at high cornering speeds. In summary, I am totally pleased with standard PASM. If I want additional stiffness, I can hit the PDCC button below the PASM display (didn't do a good job showing these buttons, PDCC, emergency flasher, front axle lift, etc.) if I want a stiffer ride because I see a great corner highway entrance/exit ramp coming up. Good luck with your selection. If you have any questions, please feel free to reply to this message.

Further to my reply above, I found the Car and Driver online article (sourced with a Google search on "Car and Driver Porsche 911 Turbo S"). Here is the relevant quote: "Our test car arrived with the optional PASM sport suspension that drops the car 0.4-inch on higher-rate springs and recalibrated adaptive dampers. On certain bumps, the chassis shot us out of the saddle like a PBR bull. Yeehaw, then ouch. And it happened in the Normal drive mode, not in the more unyielding Sport or Sport Plus settings. Yet, out in the canyons, the Turbo S doesn't feel abusively harsh." Here's the URL for the article: www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a32065924/2021-porsche-911-turbo-s-drive/.

Richard. Thank you so much for such a comprehensive reply. I’m familiar with Harry’s garage, he lives about 5 miles away from me., and the roads he uses for test drives are part of my daily school run😂 I’m going to book a session at the Porsche Experience Centre…I know they have a Turbo S (not sure if it’s SPASM or not). Are you purely a Porsche guy, or did you look at other cars prior to ordering. I drove the Roma a couple months back. It’s a great car, fast, engaging and the suspension is excellent but, it definitely has some shortcomings……I think I’m too old to accept frequent dealer visits as the price one pays for owning a sports car. BTW, I’d also read the thread on Rennlist about reducing tire pressures on SPASM cars and similarly thought it was an extremely unwise thing to do.
@At_The_Glen
@At_The_Glen 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, Thanks for your reply. That is so cool that Harry’s Garage is so close to your home. That press car that Harry drove might be the same one The Car Guys drove. I don’t recall if either of them said that the car was equipped with Sport-PASM, but if Harry has an open door policy, you could ask if he recalls the spec on that car - perhaps he still has some briefing notes from Porsche. At this point I am quite committed to Porsches. Our other are is a 2019 Cayenne e-Hybrid, which is amazing. We can do most of our errands on electric only, and with premium gas prices now as high as $6.46/gallon (U.S.), its a real benefit It’s interesting that you mentioned the Roma. For a while, one was parked in our garage here at the apartment complex where we’re currently renting. It was gray and really attractive. At the time, I was thinking that it might be a nice companion to the Turbo S, but like you I don’t want to be thinking about service intervals and cost. My wife and I are pretty conservative, so I’ve never been drawn to Lamborghinis or McLarens, both of which, like Ferraris, are quite common where I live. I once thought about test-driving a Portofino but moved back east for a couple years and it would not have been a good car there. My Rennlist signature block has some of my former cars and those include British marques like by 1975 Triumph TR-6 and a 2016 Launch Edition Aston Martin DB11, a very striking car. Today, I saw an all-black Aston Martin DBS Superleggera that looked very cool in an aggressive sort of way. I’ve had several Mercedes AMG models: C55, SL63, CL55 and an AMG GT S. But for now, if I look toward the future, I see Stuttgart and Flacht up ahead.

@@At_The_Glen Hi Richard, I wanted to follow up with you as I’ve now had a chance to drive the turbo s with SPASM…..I booked the car through the Porsche Experience center at Silverstone…..what a brilliant way to try a car! 3 hours in the car on public roads, their track, ice hill, skid pan etc. and about 20 launches 0-60-0 as they want to demonstrate how immense the brakes are on the car (the brakes are more impressive than the 0-60). My take away on SPASM is that there’s no wrong decision. I went down some really crumby country roads, definitely firm but not unsettling…I’d say about 20% firmer than the Ferrari Roma (the Roma handled uneven pavement better than the Porsche)….I prefer the look of the car with PASM not SPASM and what the day did show me was that I’m nowhere near a good enough driver for me to ‘need’ SPASM, so I’d be sacrificing ride comfort without the ability to enjoy the benefits of SPASM….so, if I buy the Turbo S, I’d go for PASM. On a different note, the instructor showed me a neat trick with the PDK (you may know it already) if you want maximum acceleration when overtaking for example…blip the throttle just prior to making the maneuver and the PDK will automatically choose the lowest gear possible for the speed that your traveling. Give it a try, it’s very cool! Have you tried the Porsche experience center in the States….Silverstone was absolutely fantastic. They also spec the car with just about every option available so that customers can try them out and decide if they’d want to order them….

@At_The_Glen
@At_The_Glen 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brett, thanks for your comment. The Porsche logo projecting mirrors are an option when configuring a Porsche 911. You raise an interesting point as to whether they can be retrofitted by a dealer on a 911 with standard mirrors. It could be that all 911 mirror supports are prewired for the lights - oh, wait - if all 911s project a puddle light anyway, to get the logo to project the difference must just be in the mirror housing and maybe just an insert placed over the light source. In that case, why does it cost so much? According to the U.S. Turbo S configurator, the Porsche logo puddle lights are $160. The standard equipment list includes "Power folding exterior mirrors including courtesy lighting", so the wiring is already there and perhaps the same bulb that they use to project the logo. So, it sounds as if you are getting the illuminated door sills and it's probably worth checking about the mirrors. Good luck.

Thanks for your question and it’s one that has people posting endlessly on Porsche discussion forums like Rennlist. I do not have Sport-PASM and have absolutely no regrets. In addition to my comments below, please check out my reply to “jasonsfraser” above for a full download about my thoughts and those of some reviewers about S-PASM. BTW, I’ll be doing a follow-up video now that the car is broken in and I’ll make a point of discussing my decision to stay with the standard PASM suspension. Here are my thoughts in a nutshell that summarize my comments to Jason and that are based on over a year of ownership and having read additional Turbo S reviews. As noted in my comments, I came from a 2018 991.2 GT3 and often drove in the stiffer “Track” suspension setting. I have always opted for a stiffer suspension until buying the TTS. I did not order S-PASM based on conversations with two senior Porsche employees whom I trust that advised against it. One of them currently owns a GT3 and has a Carrera S without S-PASM as his daily driver. Also, there have been reviews by respected journalists who complain about the suspension with S-PASM being too brittle. I’m driving on the same roads as when I owned the GT3 and I would not want a stiffer suspension unless I had built the car for track use in which case I would have ordered the lightweight package (rear seat delete, lightweight glass, carbon fiber buckets, etc.). I had a 2015 991.1 Turbo S and this car is so different likely reflecting reports that Porsche built a lot more “GT” into this generation. The handling, sound and overall performance are spectacular, and yet it remains a terrific daily driver. On the point about the 10 mm lowering, that was not important to me. I like the stance of my car with standard PASM, which can be stiffened by toggling the “PDCC” - Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control - switch. It looks fine to me. In fact, I think S-PASM gives the car a bit of a “chopped and lowered” look, which I’m not a fan of although it was the look on my GT3. Thanks for the question. I hope my reply is helpful. And, as mentioned above, please check out my replies to “jasonsfraser” for additional specific information. Cheers.

Thank you for your reply, Richard. I appreciate your thoughts and I am now convinced that Porsche’s base set up for the Turbo S will provide more than adequate (likely the more sorted) performance for the intended purposes of this car than what the S-PASM will do. I now have ㅕn-checked the PASM Sports option box! 😀

Good question! This is a constant discussion point on the Porsche Rennlist owner's forum. I am 100% happy with the ride with the standard suspension, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). For day-to-day driving, the Turbo S is firm in a good way, not brittle and not bouncy. If I want a even stiffer ride, for example, for fast, tight cornering, I can press the switch for Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), which stiffens the suspension. That said, I had a Gen 991.2 (1998) GT3 before this car and I am never disappointed by the excellent handling of this new Turbo S. Please see my response to "jasonfraser", above, where I provide more background as to why I stayed with the standard PASM and not the stiffer Sport-PASM. Some people have S-PASM and swear by it, but others are reducing their tire pressures to get a better ride, which is not a good thing.

As good as this car is, and it is indeed very very good, I would have to pass on buying this car and get the Huracan Tecnica instead. It is more expensive but you get so much from the mid engine V10 and there is no substitute for the sounds as Lamborghini has done a phenominal job in developing the performance and design that the flat six on the turbo S just can't match!!!

Hello Peter. Some of Chris' followers on this channel know that I had a 991.1 GT3 before this 992 Turbo S, so for them, Chris and me, it's relevant as people want to know what it was like going from my 991.1 Turbo S to the GT3 and now back in a Turbo S. Willl I ever own another GT3? I bet I will before the last run of the NA engine and before EU regs for noise, mileage, etc. render it extinct. But for now, I am thrilled with this new TTS. Chris has pinned two videos that we did with the GT3, and viewers can see my enthusiasm for the car. I don't think the comparison is nonsensical because these two cars are both 911s, gen 992. Whether a base Carrera or a TTS or GT3, it is amazing how varied these cars can be and each provide a terrific driving experience. It's like a toolbox with an assortment of Craftsman tools. Something for every job. Now that there is more GT department influence in this car (sound, handling and available lightweight package: seats, carbon fiber roof, rear seat delete, etc.) a person who wants to track their TTS can spec an AWD but heavier "mock" GT2 RS. The proof of this is in the side-by-side drag strip comparos that show a TTS with AWD beating a GT2 RS off the line, although the GT2 RS wins the acceleration from a steady 50 mph. So now a track-equipped TTS and the GT3 start to converge - one is a hammer the other is a scalpel - buyer's choice. Personally, I found the comparison interesting particularly the numbers where these cars build to max HP & torque, RPMs at 60 mph in their respective top gear, weight, lb/hp, 0-60 times, etc. A lot of people buy GT3s for the wrong reasons, e.g., it's a cool car, I've got lots of money, I want one. I bought it because I had volunteered at motorsports events, had driven GT3s/GT3 RSs on a track and I respect the brand. Similarly, people buy the TTS for the wrong reasons - lots of HP even though they will mostly use a couple hundred HP when cruising looking for thumbs-up. I loved the GT3 but I will admit that a shopping trip to Costco required some serious contortionist moves to get stuff behind the fixed carbon fiber buckets. Hope this addresses your comment.
