There are many comments like this, and I refer the Tacoma fans to them when they arbitrarily say "Toyota is better." When I ask them specifically WHY Toyota is "better," OBJECTIVELY, by category, , they say things like, "because it's a Toyota." So ridiculous.

The Nissan compares very nicely with a 2023 Tacoma, except it will never match the Tacoma in resale value.
@jeanclaude7018
@jeanclaude7018 4 ай бұрын
@@davidwalker260 Everone perpetuates this myth that Toyota is like some grail that nothing can touch, but JD Power recently reported that Frontier had just edged out Tacoma on resale value. Don't shoot the messenger please. As far as comparison, many reviews found Frontier to be not comparable, but superior, to Tacoma in these categories:: Power, shifting quality, ride, handling, braking, NVH, interior comfort, and that all-important seating position. Let's give credit where due. It's not a sin to say that Nissan did their homework and built a truck aimed at besting the Tacoma in all these categories, and was successful enough that many Tacoma loyalists jumped ship to Nissan because they a simply found better value there. That's an amazing accomplishment, but after driving the same Nissan since 1995, with very little trouble, I'm not surprised at the new truck. I am surprised that they actually penetrated the Taco loyalty barrier, which is typically very hard to do.

@@jeanclaude7018 You can’t tell me anything I don’t know about a Datsun/Nissan I don’t already know. I’ve owned a 1980 Datsun 200SX, a 1982 Datsun 280ZX, a 1985 Nissan (first year) Maxima, a 1989 Nissan SE pickup 2WD, a 1994 Nissan Hardbody SE/v6 4WD and a 2000 Maxima SE. Great vehicles to they fell into bed wih Renault when they proceeded to put out junk. They’re trying to recover, but they’re not there yet. I looked at the 2024 retro hardbody Frontier and found it to be what Tacoma was already producing in the 3rd gen. I won’t buy a new Taco because theyre too high and I’m not a turbo guy. But the EPA may be forcing us all towards turbos and hybrids. I’m old enough where I won’t be around but the total EV thing. By the way, since the 2000 Max which I gave my daughter, I went to Toyota with a 2000 Tundra, which I gave my first grandson, a 2007 FJ Cruiser given to my second grandson, a 2009 Tundra later given to my next grandson, a 2008 4Runner to my granddaughter. 4Runner, FJ, and second Tundra are still being driven. Right now I’m driving a ‘23 Taco I bought since it was the final V6 year. My wife has a ‘16 4Runnr Limited 4.0 V6 and a 2022 Lexus RX I bought for the same reason on the V6. I can assure you you the Toyota resale is still golden.

My money went to Nissan. In November 2023, I bought a 2023 Nissan Frontier SV 4x4 Midnight Edition. When I was looking at trucks I looked at Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Honda Ridgeline and Nissan Frontier. The Nissan checked all the boxes. I wanted a V6, 4x4, full boxed frame, heavy suspension and hydraulic power steering. I wasn't looking for a lot of tech in a truck, but the LED headlights are awesome at night.

When I saw the Frontier for the first time I was liking that powerful v6 but the smaller size of the Frontier and lack of offroad goodies turned me away. I never thought the new taco would push me to the Frontier. For the price I have seen tundra for nearly the price of a new taco, something I can negotiate down and get a tundra for the price of the taco.

There was a time when a full size big horn was a better buy than a Tacoma. Even the power windows and stereos were better in the full size Ram. The center console was huge when you got the bucket seats. This is a while back it was 2008,and Toyota wanted way too much for the Tacoma. I have always liked Nissan better, all the way back to 1984 with the crew cab, they are well made trucks. Remember the Nissan had a option package that added 998,00 they did not say what options. It was likely blind spot mitigation and emergency breaking. They mentioned the Tacoma had a sliding rear window. Why pay more and get a four cylinder with 32 less horsepower than a more reliable naturally aspirated v six in the Nissan. In my opinion they are pushing these little engines far beyond what they should with the turbo. Nissan 9 speed transmission Tacoma 8 speed.Both were always known foe reliable little trucks, now Toyota has gone and compromised there engines, but this year is the last for the V8 in Ram trucks, Ford has been doing it and have a lot of problems.

in 2023, I really wanted a Tacoma, but had to delay the purchase. Was considering all the mid-size trucks but I compared them and decided on the 2024 Frontier and the deciding factor was the NA 3.8L V6 tried and true engine vs. a 4-cyl turbo (given the troubles with the Tundra turbo V6s, I wasn't going to do a turbo regardless). The Frontier is the last midsize truck (not a unibody) that is not using gimmicks (cylinder deactivation, turbos, yadda yadda) that will just drive up repairs later. My only complaint is the Auto-Start-Stop, which was easy to defeat with a $35 part from Amazon.

Tough Call, the Tacoma is the newest Kid on the block, so the interior is something new to look at, the exterior is more of a evolutionary style, than a revolutionary look. The Frontier looks clean and chiseled, but both are attractive and good looking, so its a wash! The Cabin in the Frontier looks cleaner and more friendlier, I am not a fan of the Stand Up Screen, in any vehicle, the HVAC Controls go to the Toyota, if they were 4x4 Spec, the Nissan looks to have a cleaner underbelly and (maybe) better Protection, The Tacoma TRD Off Road I looked at just has plastic Splash Shields, which is not a "Off Road" Spec Feature, IMO. The Tow Hook Location on the Nissan are much better than the Toyotas and the back end looks to have a lot better departure angle capability (just a guess, I maybe wrong) The Nissan has a lot better info on the Window Sticker and although the new 2.4 Turbo is great on paper, its too new to see its overall performance in the real world, so the jury is still out on that one. The 3.8L V6 in the Nissan is stout and has less complexity, so that is a plus, for the price point I think the Nissan Wins the Midsize battle (For Now) and we will have to see in a few months to see if some of the early problems of the Tacoma (Blown Front Diff so far) are going to haunt it.

Toyota's reputation for reliability is slightly bloated by fan boys and popularity because of those fanboys. Don't get me wrong, Toyota is great, one of, if not the best, but Nissan trucks have always been very solid, and just as good if not better. Look around at all the 90s Nissans still running around. I don't see nearly as many Toyota trucks from those years. Frames rusted out and plenty of other issues. And that goes into the early 2000s as well. Then even the past 10yrs, the Taco is not necessarily miles ahead of the Frontier on reliability, if any at all. Toyo is simply bloated from fan boys and Nissan gets a bad rep for their crappy cars, but their trucks have always been very solid, just as good if not better than any Toyo.

Far better than my '21 Tacoma SR5 in all ways - features, ride quality, transmission, etc. Hoping to keep my Frontier for 5+ years and will give all the new models/designs time to evolve, work out the kinks and prove out the power trains.

I just rented a Frontier for 3 days on a trip. It had good power and brakes and handled well. It also got good gas mileage. The ride over bumps was choppy and bottomed easily. The steering was heavy at slow speeds, but I got used to it quickly. The defrost didn't work that well. I would consider the frontier, but it only has direct injection with no port injection to keep the intake valves clean. That's a deal breaker for me. The Tacoma has both direct and port injection.

I just went with the 2024 Nissan Frontier SV crew cab long (6 ft) bed with the technology package and am really happy. We have been a Toyota car and truck family for years, but after comparing all of the mid-size trucks on the market, everything including price, engine, and interior/exterior styling led me to go with the Frontier. I do wish the Frontier trim level I got had LED head and fog lights, wireless charging and CarPlay, and wireless connectivity to the MyNissan app -- but that would have been a lot extra or a higher trim level. A little better fuel economy would be nice too. It does not auto lock/unlock when walking away or up to the vehicle which I find odd, and it's not possible to intentionally lock the doors with my wife's purse (including her key fob) inside -- perhaps we are the only couple who does that when we are out together... My Frontier happens to have the Fender sound system upgrade -- DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE FENDER SOUND SYSTEM! It has no audio adjustments other than treble/base/fade/balance, and the sound is quite poor compared to my Mazda's upgraded Bose system. The subwoofer takes up half of the under rear seat storage, and although it puts out some vehicle shaking bass, right off the lot anything above about 30% volume has at least one speaker rattling with certain mid/low frequencies. Now I am trying to decide if I should go back to the dealer (35 min. away) to complain. That last vehicle I took back to a (Toyota) dealer ended up with more problems after it was "fixed" than when I took it in.

I had Datsun in the 70’s as a teen then Nissan as an adult and they never lasted as long and trouble free as a Toyota. Reliability was amazing with all the Toyotas I’ve owned, but a 4 turbo is not sitting well with me. I imagine the service departments at Toyota must be celebrating with anticipation for all the repairs that will be coming lining the pockets of the dealership. Also the price of nearly $50,000! The funny thing about Tacoma is that people call it "class leading," but Toyota copied elements from the Frontier interior. The center console grab handle, armrest, and angled grab handle on the inside of the front doors of the Tacoma were copied from a better designed truck interior, the Frontier. Naturally aspirated is always better for a truck because it's more reliable and can get a more efficient air/fuel mixture. Everyone says a turbo give the truck more power but they don't explain that to prevent knock the turbocharged engine sprays extra fuel into the cylinder to cool it down. That extra fuel isn't burned but instead gets dumped into the catalytic converter and ruins fuel economy. The Tacoma is the most expensive mid-sized truck but they put cheap looking metal D-rings in the bed to secure cargo. Most people say the Nissan design is outdated but I think the Frontier design uses a classic truck design that has been proven to work well, be user-friendly, and reliable in trucks that are used as work vehicles.

The Frontier is cheaper and has some nice details like sound insulation underneath the hood, drop down arm rest for rear seat passengers. The V6 is a good powertrain. Exhaust systems would fall off, belts would break, accessories would fail, batteries wouldn’t last very long, tires would only last 30k miles, almost constant brake and suspension work, starters, electrical problems, etc.

My last truck was the last Gen Frontier and it was an outstanding truck. Never had a single issue with it. I've heard good things about the new Gen as well. The Taco is too new for any of us to really have an opinion where experience is concerned but we all know how great the last Gen was. I'd go naturally aspirated engine any day over forced induction. Simply put, the engine will have a longer life. I'm quite disappointed with how all of the manufacturers are dropping little turbo charged four bangers into everything, even full sized trucks!

When the turbos have to be replaced, they will wish they went with the Nissan. To me, nothing else matters besides the final price and the Nissan wins by $3000 .

FIRST: Thanks for reviewing the 4x2 models. Every other review I'm finding is a 4x4. DISLIKES FOR BOTH: What I dislike about both is no ability to use a key/keyswitch to start the truck. My last three trucks had the FOBs die before the trucks got traded in. That would be a heck of an inconvenience to me if they didn't use a keyswitch. I'd also consider a 'chipped' key a better security device. It does appear both have a key-openable door (drivers side, at least), which is a positive to me. Both need a CD player as I've got a lot of CDs (easy to solve with aftermarket parts). I'd also like a 5-speed manual transmission option. WINNER would be the Nissan Frontier. V-6 engine, no turbo is a big plus. I also like the Frontier's dash displays, its manual parking brake (which you didn't mention). The Frontier needs a spray-in bedliner but I can get that done for a lot less than the dealer charges (its a $900 dealer option IIRC).
