Great video brother. I live in the desert also and have one suggestion for you. You can put a small block of ice in the bucket and keep the bucket shaded. This will give your birds cold water just about all day long and not add any real weight to your setup. Awesome job. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent idea, well carried out. Will modify for my coop. 35 chickens go through a lot of water, especially on hot summer days.Thanks mucho!

Ingenuity at its finest! That is a great set up. Especially with not letting the bucket fill up because of the heat. Gonna look into this. 👍

This is genius! Not sure if I'm handy enough to pull it off, but I'm damn sure gonna try. Thank you!!

Nice job. I constructed pretty much the same thing with the feeder. I know you said you are "In the desert" and probably don't get a lot of rain. But I had to put a removable cap on the top of the feeder as water would get in and clog up the feed line. The water was causing the feed to swell a little and it would not travel down the pipe to the openings for the chickens to eat.

I have searched for two days for same type setup.. I was like why can’t I use a toilet float valve to make a water system for the chickens.. they can’t tell me it can’t be done.. I will go out my way to prove them wrong.. Ty for this..
@bsjcook9 жыл бұрын
Nice idea ... I would recommend you use a white RV water hose for better tasting water for the chickens, and I had to change from chicken nipples to Beaktime chicken cups due to the continuous wet area that could cause problems down the line.

Great idea, I was contemplating my fill tank from my timer irrigation timer, tee into a zone, now it will feed a toilet valve, bright mind, live in AZ.

I was just thinking of doing this. Glad to see someone else has done it and it worked. I plan to add a additional drain too it. just at the bottom of the bucket, or at the end past the nipples, with a sprinkler timer attatched. That way 1-2x a day, the water flushes, so its not hot water from sitting in the sun all day everyday. That way its always a garunteed fresh supply of water.

Perfect watering system. I did the same in the barn but with pvc feed to the toilet valve so no worries about a hose splitting. This saves so much time and should last until the bucket rots... long time. Same for the feed, except mine is accessible by pigeons... not good. I need to move mine inside the coop. We free range during the day.

I work at a hardware store and never thought of doing this watering system. Awesome job

So glad you shared that. This is now this weekends project. Genius. the most simplest way is usually the best.

neat setup..only suggestion would be that you keep the water pressure into the pail at an absolute minimum in case something goes wrong that your not pumping a lot of water onto the ground fast...its not like a few chickens are going thru 1 gallon per hour of water so keep the water feed low

Yep, easy explanation & application! I thought of doing similar, but it's nice to see other's implementation. Thanks for both concepts.

Yep. Nice work! Planning to do something very similar, but with a cooler to hold the water, with a heater in the water, so my birds stay watered in these cold Montana winters. But all summer that should be good to go.
@nellafantasia086 жыл бұрын
michael98277 can you tell me how you did that with the heater. I am in Canada Southern B.C. and it gets cold here too.

Nicely done. I live in New England so winter would be an issue, but for 3/4 of the year this would be great. Cool!

thanks for sharing. Any chance you remember what fittings you used to get from the water line to connect to the garden hose? Thank you.

Hey this looks brilliant! Can you explain why you dont run the hose straight from the mains to the nipples? Is it a pressure issue? Ive been trying to run a water line straight from my garden tap to some lubing cups in an aviary but the cups are sitting in a line which is higher than the mains & Im having trouble getting them to fill properly. I only have the tap on a tiny bit. The other problem is the water heats up & I feel I need to flush the whole system through. I dont like the idea of still water sitting for a long time in the pipes. This bucket mechanism may well be my solution regarding the pressure issues. If anyone else reading this understands where Im going wrong please chime in.

Hi Bella, I have the same question as you! Did you ever get an answer to that?

I have a similar setup for my waterer. I cut the standard toilet supply flex line and added a ribbed hose adapter to it rather than the multi-fitting. my difficulty was in finding the bucket to pcv pipe interface for the gravity feed. Can you tell me what you used? Mine is just a jerry-rigged brass fitting that leaks. thanks.
@slickbelge9 жыл бұрын
very cool, but instead of the toilet valve, why not just connect it directly to the hose? If you're worried about too much pressure, just turn the water hose faucet down three quarters of the way.

I Just love Your whole setup. That is a neat idea. You wouldn't have to keep refilling the water bucket everyday. What are all the parts you used for the watering system? I love the chicken coop also. Do you have any plans to your chicken coop? Please, if you don't mind, send me a copy.

Hey nice job, I live in the desert as well and I'm gonna build this for my coop. Question: when it gets hot in the summer do you have any problems with you chickens being so close to that cinderblock wall?
