The benefit of Arduino is to use a function that prevents electricity from reaching the soil moisture sensor, thereby increasing its lifespan. The sensor mentioned above is widely used, but it has a significant drawback. It is a resistive soil moisture sensor, and it suffers from electrolysis. When a constant current flows through the sensor while it is in contact with wet soil, it causes the thin layer on the sensor's PCB to undergo electrolytic breakdown. In other words, the metal on the sensor will eventually be deposited into the soil rather than remaining on the sensor itself.

While you are correct, it seems a shame to throw what is in essence a micro computer at a simple problem like this. I wonder if the sensor's prongs could not be replaced by simple diy pieces of soldered wire, which would be extremely cheap and easy to make and use.

it is unnecessary, you can just provide 5V to the wires he mentioned, other methods can be used to do so.

Everything is working but when the soil sensor get into the water the water pump can't stop.

@@md.sakibhasan9904 you may have the potentiometer on the sensor set wrong you need to calibrate it to how wet or how dry it needs to be indicated by one light or 2 lights
