Unfortunate reality that many builders do not do what they say they do. Life's too short to live with those realities for eternity. Hopefully, the builder makes it right and provides the parts to complete the build per the specs it was sold as. We don't do anyone a favor by not calling out the shortcomings. Hopefully, this will refocus the direction of the builder and benefit future customers. Thank you Hiram for your willingness to share your knowledge, expertise and demonstrated integrity!

That's a shame, they say you get what you pay for, but that's not often the case. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.

I've put a bunch of power thru my 4l80. I used bw high energy clutches, internal dual feed, 3-4 accumulator delete and a basic shift kit. Drilled the pump area for the billet tcc release. All new bushings, seals, and molded pistons. It works awesome got 20,000 miles on it now and been 10.40 in a 4wd Silverado turbo 5.3
@thatturbotruck Жыл бұрын
No billet shafts needed for that. But if you pay for them I understand wanting what you pay for. I always race or beat on it in manual 3rd cause I don't have the sonnax overrun clutch kit.

Hey Hiram, glad you recorded this. It's really important for people who are buying a "racing" transmission and are getting robbed. Also, good to see that you're doing ok. ;)

Hello. Wow man. Knowledge is GOLD. I hope you'll be taking my 4L80E next week to see what failed inside and repair it to new. I'm waiting to hear from you, Vinnie has replied today to me email asking about this repair. Mine is a 1500 HP rated 4L80E that 's been in my car for 4 years behind only 450 HP. But now my new engine went in last month and my turbo kit is going on....1300 RWHP is the goal. Roll Racing events.......... But now I all of a suudden have this weird issue of grinding/vobration/noise. Vinnie has my detailed email. Thanks.

Hey Hiram, I’ve watched a couple of your videos now and they’re super helpful! But I’ve just got a question related to a 4L60E in a 97 C2500 Chevy I just bought, the rear seal was leaking and I ended up losing 3 / 4 going down the freeway before I actually realized. 3 does still grab when coasting down a hill and holds the vehicle back like it should but as soon as I press the gas it slips out. I’m wondering if the torque converter being empty would cause something like this and if I drained the fluid and re-primed the torque converter if it may fix something like this without rebuilding it.

Can someone explain how the 4L80E manual 1st and 2nd ranges work? In the description it states M1 - 1st gear start, automatic upshift to 2nd. M2 1st gear start, automatic upshift to 2nd and the only difference is that for M1 you got the engine braking in both gears, while M2 it is only for 2nd gear. Effectively two ranges that do the same thing and hence it making a 1-2 and 2-1 manual shifting impossible? Are there kits that lock out the 2nd gear in M1 altogether and, correspondingly, the 1st gear in M2 for a 2nd gear start?

Hello Hiram. I have a 2013 6L90 that I need to replace or rebuild. I was wondering if I rebuild the transmission myself would the dealer still have to program the transmission/ecu since it's the same transmission?

I have a TH400 in a 1988 R30 2wd. Would a 4L60E be a good replacement to get another gear? Is there a way to keep the mechanical speedometer with the 4L60E?

I always wanted to rebuild a transmission. You make it look easy, but I know it isn't. My 1993 RV has a 4L80E that shifts rough. Since it only has 30k on it I am guessing the friction plates have deteriorated.
@gunshipproduct2 Жыл бұрын
Hard shift or soft shift? ATs will soft shift or go neutral when they are about to go out. 4L80E produces some of the highest line pressure of any AT produced (300psi>), and are known to sometimes produce too much.

@Jet Black Fox Thanks for the reply. When you stop and try to go it won't go at first then you can feel it go in gear hard. Higher gears are smoother.

It's hilarious what people think a performance build is sometimes it could be a shift kit maybe an extra clutch in the drum with a shift kit maybe even no shift kit with just red clutches. The reality is you get what you pay for, Transgo is a joke if you're trying to make any real horsepower. A real performance builder has a lathe and a mill to machine the parts the way they need to be machined. I have been a building for 15 years you can always learn more I don't care if you have been building for 30 years you can learn more.
@leebarnes655 Жыл бұрын
Very smart consumer is taking zero chances, I'm just hoping the engine work is genuine and that a credible mechanic delivers on his price quote. A lot of people running under the falsehood that there is something they can actually do against this AT parts swapping rebuilder when that route only pays the lawyers and winds up costing twice what billet costs. Pointless exercise in stupidity, if they are any good in this game of lying, they are already running under a new name somewhere else while being untraceable too. Which is exactly what happens when they can be forced into court - they disappear first. And that means going after them is a total waste of time and lots of money because the lawyer is always going to get paid out of your already bleeding rear end. Best option is to give that shop a trashing review thru the better business bureau as a means to warn the next guy wanting to buy billet parts installed from that outfit. Bad news for Hiram, he's now in the middle of this and he didn't want to be. I'm confident that the guy that hired you Hiram already suspected this could be the outcome, so now his dream ride is just going to cost a bit more than he has already paid out. I would forget about the other guy's placements of check balls and do it your way, all the way, Hiram.
