Plates are low density but the ingots are fairly dense. Of course the actual iridium processing is complicated enough that it's reasonable to do it on Nauvis anyway but if you're wanting to minimise rocket launches then shipping the ingots is the way to go.

If you're using crushed to send back instead of raw and you aren't using an ungodly amount of launches, chances are you're going to have no problem supporting your rocket launches, especially once you get recycle researches in, you are just flooded with cargo parts and pods. Add in launching small rocket launches for some pods and how you get more return per less inside a rocket, it's not bad. The requirements for the elevator are not that far away, he should really just rush that to make it far more manageable

I don’t think the goal for Nilaus is minimizing rocket launches.

In watching the streams, I never understood why Nilaus resisted automating the planet outposting so much. It's something he's good at (automating), so it was weird that he didn't want to automate it. Now that he has, he should like the modpack much more (or dislike it less). I do wish he would setup some basic production of copper and iron at each planet as well as oil. This would let him be much more flexible with his outposts and build remotely better. He could use this to respond to the biter attacks he will surely get. I also think he should supplement his rocket fuel with oil available on planet, but I understand why he doesn't.

Sense ore rarity is different on each planet, certain basic materials may be extremely rare or even none existent, making of world support needed and easier to plan around then on cite sourcing on every planet.

@@nickolasrealmjumper5172 And also you can use the Off World sourcing to get the important parts bootstrapped and then staple in In Situ Resources after as an efficiency upgrade based on what's actually around.

@@O11O1channel Yeah! Prioritizing the resources you have on planet over off-site supplies is a definite efficiency boost for once the base is running.

One thing I hope will be useful for you: You can pin parts of the map and move directly to them in the nav view with the pins at the side of the nav window in the bottom left

Who needs a car when you have jetpacks! Jetpacks are one of the things I really like about SE - so fun to stack a bunch in your equipment and just zoom around.

​@@GordonfreemsHuh, that's interesting. Is it the default keybind of "J"? Cause you can change that. I would think that driving a car around with rocks and cliffs and such would be way less convenient than slapping 3-4 jetpacks in your equipment and blasting around quickly where ever you want.

You probably figured this out by now or maybe even it's not what you had in mind but the plates are much more dense than the ores because it takes so much ore to make one plate, even though the stack sizes are the same.

One thing I usually do is hooking the resupply together with sending rocket parts. Because a full rocket of stacked rocket parts is usually not really needed. So can dedicate maybe 70% rocket parts and 30% to sending whatever is missing on the planet. Saves one rocket and can be automated. Then have a planet starter rocket that can go wherever and is not tied to any location. Just putting in everything needed to get started with some logic. Basically what you did but without the incoming signal.

Most of the time Ingots are the most dense way to ship. I did a couple planets where I fully processed a resource onsite and then ship back all the product plus waste and sort it out back home.

Imagine how bad the refinery lockups are gonna be when the rounding errors are gonna be spread actoss multiple planets.

Question - why not make 1 base blueprint based on one deep mining? Oil get from coal. Excess convert to rocket parts.

Loved this episode. Setting up new planet outposts was the main reason I quit playing this mod pack. What's the plan for the biters though?

@Nilaus if you click on a landing pad, it will say if there is a rocket inbound.

It'd be cool to see like a lamp feature or something similar added to it, like how LTN station lights glow yellow when there's an incoming train.

Settling new planets is pretty much the worst in this game. Same with tapping into new mining spots and so on. I'm looking forward to the DLC with its new mining drill that will cover a bigger area and get that speed / productivity boost...

If I could suggest, why not just automate a rocket delivery for Uranium fuel cells, 200 seconds per unit, 200 per stack, 400 stacks, plenty of time in between and then you don't need a crafted or anything

by far the best way to handle all the feedback in space exploration is to filter unload the iridite into a 2x2 box, then load up the box with an inserter with a condition to only top it up to a threshold.

You are overpowering everything else, so why not SIRs? (Single Item Rockets?) No circuits, no complicated, boring ways for things to lock up, just smooth item deliveries all the time everywhere. The space build I saw earlier does in fact want SIRs to even partially feed it. If you are cityblocking (instead of 1-1-1ing with distributed minibuses) then SIRs are just city blocks stretched over space.

This was what I did almost exclusively in my last playthrough. Way simpler than messing with interplanetary signals. Only downside is the large number of cargo pads you have to make and the extra buffers of rocket parts/capsules are a bit of a waste.

the Rockets do not need to wait for the rocket parts and capsule to be loaded, even if the rocket is completely full, it will still accept the parts and capsule. just an FYI. maybe you already knew this.

he knows. He doesn't want to pre-load because he doesn't want to have so much unused equipment just sitting in the rocket and in the requester warehouse. It reduces buffer size.

Watch the playthrough from Zisteau (long) or DoshDoshington (short) to get the full experience. SE doesn’t fit Nilaus‘ playstyle.
