2:08 The Turbo Failing might be because of the too narrow Radiator Opening. Usually people set it to a low value to reduce drag and squeeze out every bit of a thousand (in Time Trials). However, setting it too low you effectively restrict the airflow to the cooling system. This in turn, can lead to the system overheat and damage the components. Similarly, it can happen with other openings too, like Brake Ducts. BTW Awesome driving!

Amazing! Really nicely done! Your very humble surprised looking face after the last chicane was a rush to watch. So glad that there are more and more of these kind of wholesome personalities in sim racing as of lately. Online lobbies can sometimes be a bit harsh and high negative emotions in some races. But I genuinely feel that this is changing for the better. I don't know if it is just my clinically severed perception of reality or if this is a commonly shared impression. Anyway. I sure hope James' parents don't watch this video given all the references you made to being hounded by 'James Baldwin's ghost'. Had no idea one could download the ghost of someone else's lap and use it for practice. What a great way to improve one's skills, as you proved at the end. Racing against my own ghost is a terrific and fun way of improving my lap times. I tell you, it's like everyday I learn something new about AMS2 that I had no idea was there. But I'm sure all those people that call this a simcade fail to see the value in this feature and quick to remind us how a real sim is all about dullness. Can you tell us how this is done? Of course don't offer me his ghost as I absolutely suck at Spa and couldn't handle a McLaren past the first turn. But it's good to know this could be done at a track and car I don't so much suck at.

It's a fantastic feature isn't it! It was a simple as going to the Time Trial leaderboard and clicking add ghost on the left. I then clicked James's name and it adds his ghost and even his car setup should you want to use it! I did also think I was referring to James as though he was no longer with us 🤣🤣

I think the reason for the mechanical failures is that you can tweak the setup (somewhat unrealistically) to achieve gains that in the real world would in fact blow up your car. Otherwise we'd have times way below real world numbers, at which point it's no longer a sim. Frustrating, yes, but I just push through. I worked and drove for a huge worldwide shipping company where I frequently heard, "drive it till you break it," so that's what I do. I finish the lap with the warning, then start over. No sense pushing it another lap wasting time because it is definitely going to blow up. But there's nothing worse for your concentration, especially when you've got the World Record ghost in your rear view and you get that little warning...tends to tank my time! Good job on the time! One thing I do as I'm getting close to my target time is now turn off the ghost. Once I see their line and know it well, or have figured out a better line for my setup, I turn the ghost off. Less distraction, and I press less.

Man that's crazy that you can get mechanical faults while doing a lap on a time trial lol. That was a great time you ended up with though. 👍 I just purchased the base AMS 2 content myself during the sales last week and have only managed a few outings in the GT3 at Interlagos so far but i got just enough driving for me to feel that the sim will likely suit me well. I'm not very well clued up on all the technical aspects of these sims so i basically judge everything by the "feel," lol. I'm now trying to figure out what dlc I'm likely to need so i can maybe join in a league or some other organised multiplayer races through the year. I'd be open to suggestions from anybody who has put time into this particular sim.

@@ReverendSimRacing I just joined LFM a few months back and i done my license run to qualify for ACC races but I've never really enjoyed the driving feel in ACC so I was basically hoping that with AMS2 I could access the same kind of organised racing only now with a sim that i actually enjoy the driving lol. I love driving GT's and the prototype classes so the IMSA content sounds right up my street. I think if i get the season pass that's on offer it should hopefully have most of what i'd need included in it and at worst i'd just need to add the odd thing i might be missing as i go. 2nd comment: not to take anything away from your accomplishment here as I watched his video and was impressed by how late James brakes and how cleanly he takes turns - so for you to be able to follow in his lap times is sure something to be happy with. BUT: please in mind that he didn't set up the car when he made that video - perhaps due to his eagerness to get out there and run a few laps, like the kid in us would, so I'm giving the benefit of the doubt. I called him up on that while questioning why he would criticize AMS2 while he raves about LMU and how unfair a comparison that was, given he had taken only a few laps on AMS2, contrary to all his work for LMU. Still waiting for him to give both games a fair shake. Until he does I will continue to think of him as being biased, seeing how he's been paid for working with LMU - but that's a story for another day. Point is, hopefully he will take the time to properly setup the McLaren and give it a real try. Then good luck trying to match his lap times, if he ever gives AMS2 a proper shake.

Then see you try and match that, with his exact setup. But honestly I don't hold much hope that James would go that far. After all is an asset of LMU. Hopefully he'll prove us wrong.

@ReverendSimRacing I am mainly interested in sports cars, in AMS2 I used this exact McLaren, very little of other cars and absolutely loved organizing Endurance Races on Sundays with friends. So what got me hooked on iRacing? Just the platform, the structure and the number of people participating in races. I am still new to iRacing but managed in two weeks to get to License B and close to A now. My Safety Rating is close to 4.00 but my iRating is low at the moment at barely 1200. But I want to focus on safe driving first, I don't want to roll into iRacing like bull into China shop lol, don't want to ruin my own or someone's race. Ring Meister is my absolute favorite, I've been doing 3-4 races per day over the holidays, It's Mazda MX5 at Nordschleife, I know at first it sounds boring but it's a blast. Also several Endurance Races coming up 3h, 6h, and later this year actual 24h which we are preparing team for. Visuals and game play isn't worse or better than AMS2, in fact argument can be made that AMS2 graphics are better. But the multiplayer platform and how it is structured is in my opinion what sets iRacing apart. I enjoy watching your content a lot, I won't lie, I'd love to see you in iRacing, or do what James does, little bit of both 😉 IRacing isn't actually as expensive as it's made up to be, I mean if you'll go out and purchase absolutely everything, then yes it can be. But I played AMS2 for 3 years and I probably only tried and used about 10% of the content, rest I simply wasn't interested in. So in iRacing I am doing the same, purchasing only what I really have interest in. But the MP experience is really phenomenal, I tried LFM on AMS2 before I made the switch to iRacing and really it isn't even close unfortunately, but better than plain public lobbies. Cheers! Have you seen the old Driver 61 video where James is up against an amateur driver at Spa in a Mazda MX5? The catch is that the amateur is in a 10k simulator and James has to use a 5-year-old, second hand G25 off fbook. Spoiler: Baldwin was 3 seconds faster.

I used this post from Nils on Reddit to tweak the GT3s and it honestly changed how they feel quite dramatically - especially the differential settings. Alot of TT setups are very floaty in feel and no good for actual races.... "Tire pressures have a drastic influence on top speed, especially for qualifying raising pressures can help getting a quick lap without warming up the tire for 3-4 laps • ⁠similarly any scraping on the ground causes a drop in top speed, so controlling minimum ride height on downforce car is very important • ⁠drag is much less influenced by wing changes compared to tire pressure changes • ⁠ambient and track temperature have drastic impact. Both cold and too hot tires make for a pretty bad experience. • ⁠usually both engine and brake cooling can be reduced massively from default setups (unless you struggle with hot tires already) • ⁠the differential is INSANELY powerful and can transform not only lap time or car behavior, but a well set up differential can transform the perception of the sim as a whole - going from "floaty" to "wtf is that grip!" (if you feel floatiness of the rear end, lower the coast lock degrees and increase the preload or clutch plates - go extreme with the values to feel the massive impact as a start). With a more locked coast diff you will likely be also able to run more aggressive downforce without the car becoming unstable • ⁠all default setups seem rather conservative, add camber"
