Want to know how you can create moody, dynamic images even in bright daylight? I’m going to show you how using a powerful strobe / flash can give you the flexibility you need to make your images pop even on the brightest of days. In this full walkthrough you’ll get to see my process for shooting but also the editing and post production too. I’ll take you through step by step and whether you’re brand new to off-camera flash or have tried it before, you’ll be able to take tips away to use on your own shoots right away.
If you want to find out more about the Godox AD1200 Pro I’m using for this shoot check it out here on the Lencarta website: www.lencarta.c...
Massive thanks to:
Alex for shooting the video with me. Check out his Instagram for more automotive content: www.instagram/ap_vis

Lencarta for lending me the brilliant Godox AD1200 Pro.

Kids this is the video you should watch and subscribe to. Not those 'photographers' who have so little practice and already calling them selfs 'photographers' with 100k subscribers Great video Thom!

Was asked by a potential client a few months back if I could shoot cars. I said yes of course. I haven't found any good references online on how to do that with a single strobe. Just happened across your only video (regrettable but hopefully because you're too busy actually shooting). I like the setup; single barebulb and just circle the car. No messing with scrims. Exactly what I was looking for. Don't suppose you'd like to make a video on interiors? Anyway, I will give this a try with my Godox 400 (have 2 x AD200's to add an extra 400w) and see how this goes. Cheers!

I want you to know how much I've appreciated this video tutorial. I've been shooting real estate for marketing my own real estate brokerage for decades and am interested in shooting good quality car photography. This video has provided me with much valuable information. Thanks, again. And, I look forward to seeing more of this type of tutorial from you. Perhaps, you should create something of a training program so you can provide more details about things like shooting interiors, using the different blending modes, etc. Just a thought. 😁

You had me worried up until the end, I thought you were going to keep those harsh lights on the car bonnet and wings 😅 phew! Nice job in the end, I might have filled a couple of buckets of water and filled up that puddle a bit more to help add more reflection. Thanks for the video. 🙂

Just FYI, ISO50 does not give you any benefit it is only an ISO100 darkened by the camera software. This is why it is called not native ISO. Great movie and great work by the way!

Great educational film. Thanks for offering this for free. I've seen Joel Grimes do pretty much the same thing but he used a big softbox. Do you see any differences in using a light modifier or a bare flash?
@thombateman335
@thombateman335 2 жыл бұрын
If you’re shooting in daylight then the bare flash with reflector dish will give you more power. I find it also often gives nicer results with metallic paint. I tend to use a softbox on more detail shots like wheels, interiors etc or when I want a noticeable white highlight reflection line from a softbox on bodywork.

@@thombateman335 Great! Thank you! I´ll guess the hotspotts will be smaller with just a reflector.

Great video - really helpful to see the bts and editing workflow. Your shutter? 1/50 f9 - the shutter seems really slow and the exposure isn't overly bright? Was it overcast or were you also using an ND filter? Thank again.

Great video, do you use auto white balance for these shots? Do you ever use a CTO gel for indoor shots, or do you stick with the standard CT of the flash?

Just curious once you saved a path, why not just create an alpha channel of the mask, instead of creating s seperate pixel layer with a mask?
@thombateman335
@thombateman335 3 жыл бұрын
You can do that too, it’s just the way I’m used to working. The mask doesn’t get smaller or bigger ever once it’s made so the fact it’s pixel based doesn’t really matter. I find it quicker to add to / subtract from layer masks too.
