Yes, the dd is last man standing. Its the final race of the day to write off the cars. You get a few points for the championship when you do the dd.

I don’t see much difference between the first races and the Demolition Derby. If I were going to spend days preparing and painting a car, I would want to have some earlier heats with a similar mentality to Rugby football, in other words where you can drive on the limit where crashes are possible but with penalties for deliberate harm, as that belongs in the DD races at the end of the day.
