@@lordmazzar8316 Rudy himself said in season 1 during the episode he meets Eris he says how he can't cast healing magic without an incantation "what if she beats me up so badly next time that I can't even speak? that'd be bad, I can't use healing magic if I can't speek" Orsted also questioned Rudy during ep 21 and asked him abt it As for the nickname... in the novels it tells you the name of the spell through internal monolouge even in the earlier parts of the story, but in the anime it never mentioned the name of the spell at all + ep 2 skipped on a lot of dialouge

One of the things you guys didn't mention about Soldat's drunken tirade is that he is the first one to call Rudeus out on his near suicidal depression that he is trying to cover up with a smile. Usually those people can easily get entire parties killed because they seem fine, but don't really care about anything. Soldat knows that adventures that fake it get people killed. Also, Rudeus isn't helping people because it is 'right', he is helping them so maybe his name will reach his mom. He also hides his true power from the team so he doesn't have to think/lead. However, if he did use his full strength and skills, his name would spread like wild fire. While he did take steps out the door, he basically gave up and said, "Now, what?". I don't think he will be able to give a genuine smile until he tells someone what he has been through so he doesn't feel alone. I think/hope it will happen soon.

@@reignmans Good catch. I forgot to mention that. We saw it when he faced the snow bison/oxen. He'd show us a glimpse every now and again, but he seemed to not want to show this team. Maybe he didn't want to be depended on like he was in the Demon Continent. He probably doesn't want that responsibility because he figures that he would get hurt again when they leave him like everyone else did.

If I recall from LN, Soldat doesn't like Rudeus because he hides his depressions with a fake smile. LN does not say that Soldat is concerned that Rudeus's depression will get people killed. Counter Arrow doesn't have that concern. They and in fact entire town knows Rudeus is depressed. They know the pros and cons of working with Rudeus and still willing to do it regardless. In fact Rudeus also already knows to play it safe and not risk people's lives. That's why Rudeus only take easy low risk jobs. Soldat sees this as Rudeus being half ass. Soldat even though is a good guy is being a huge dick to depressed people. It took so much effort to just leave the bed, go outside and try to be normal. Depressed people sometimes put up a happy face. Just because they want to avoid people keep asking "Are you Ok". Its not easy. Another point is sure Rudeus could do S level quest on his own. But the point of this journey is to create friendly connections to better find Zenith. Rudeus joins Counter Arrow and also other teams on quests and plays the role expected of him. Thus easier for team members to warmed up to him

Reminder we are currently in the north of the central continent. Paul and his rescue squad are on the Millis Continent. Roxy found out about Zenith (and the rest of the family) on the Demon continent. Geese is on his way (and at the end of Season 1 on) the Begaritt continent Dunno if you guys ever checked out a world map of Mushoku Tensei. But for simplicity let's say the Central, MIllis and Demon continent form an U (Central being the largest on the west and reaching all the way to the bottom, millis connecting to that and the demon continent connecting to Millis on the north) Begaritt is a continent south west of the central continent, not connected to this U. Labyrinths are a thing all over the world, they are the pinnacle of adventuring.

quagmire is the nickname adventurers gave him because he is using a quagmire skill(like a bog) to trap monsters and then kills them. first time he used that skill vs paul when gishlaine went there to take him to become Eris teacher. Soldat(blonde dude) and his party are S rank. He went off at rudy because he can see through him, he also understands Rudy is sand bagging (underperforming on purpose) and that because of that he is putting the adventurers partying with him in great danger.

[Spoiler] Knowing where the story goes, it was really the second time if you are an attentive viewer that you ask yourself "how the fuck does Geese know that ?" (the first time being when he ask Rudy to go to the adventurer guild in Millis to meet Paul but you can say it's just lucky guess), it's so hard to see people being like "Geese is the best !" because I was like that before the whole stuff much much later happened (it will be in the middle of season 4 so in like 5 to 7 years from now on). God I love Mushoku tensei

Treants are very fun monsters, because they can take all kinds of plant shapes A desert treant is cactus-like, a tropical treant is palm-like, or banana tree-like, there can even be vegetable treants, then there are elder treants, which are the ones that can use magic But i hope you two can watch Helck, its one of those hidden gems with a small fanbase, and we were so surprised to see it getting an anime Helck begins with He-Man joining a tournament and plays mostly as a comedy, then the real plot unveils and it becomes epic action and adventure, half charming half badass

Just want to point out that even though you both reacted at the scene with Sara and Rudeus in the cave after he rescued her and him just starring. There was no inner voice dialogue from Rudy, and his face was generally blank. 🤔

People miss that with both scenes in this episode. When he grabbed Sara's chest he didn't react. In the LN he intentionally changes how he grabs her but he's so accustomed to Eris that he miscalculates in the moment and grabs Sara's breast. It's why he says "I thought I was" when she says for him to watch his hands. He isn't being perverted at all in this episode but I don't think the anime onlys are catching on to that fact. Though these two don't read comments, and it's for the best really, so none of the additional info is going to get to them unless someone they know brings it up. I think they have folks moderating the comments? Not sure.

I've been kind of disappointed at how many anime-only people (reactors and commentors) are so fixated with the pervy Rudy that they don't notice how different he is in this specific episode. And how people are so hung up with the fact that he is holding panties and not seeing how Rudy no longer sees it as a perverted item but rather a treasured object. They're missing all this character development in Rudy and how he's learning to relate to the women in his life. 😩

Just to clarify one thing, the time between Soldat yelling at Rudeus and Sara's disappearance and Mimir's death was one day. So one day after Soldat said that to Rudeus, he went through the whole thing with Sara. The editing there was a bit bad and a bit rushed, that's why you got confused.

That is an interesting take on Sol. I personally thought Sol very quickly caught on to the fact that Rudy was hiding his true feelings and putting up a fake smile, acting as if nothing affects him. All of his actions were according to a plan and not truly from his heart. The same was true for the leader of counter arrow although to a lesser extent. Edit: Just to add, at the end of the episode, it seems both Rudy and Timothy truly smiled from heart.

They rushed the plot quite a bit in this episode. Rudeus and Soldat had been in the town for months at the beginning of the episode and another few months pass between the Snow Drake incident and Sara going missing, just putting it out there for the anime-only fans.

Rudy gets the nickname quagmire because of his signiture spell of the same name. You saw ut against tge bears last episode. He makes a swamp. Basically he joins EVERY party in the guild at some point to get his name out there. His thought process is if he gets famous enough and spreads the word enough , someone will know where zenith is. Ok so apparently why this seems a bit rushed is that normally one LN is 4 episodes but because episode 0 was included in the main season and not an OVA, that cut into LN 7's episodes so it only gets 3. I mean if you're gonna rush one of them, 7 is the one to do it to.

I wouldn't doubt if others have mentioned this by now, but his nickname Quagmire come from his kinda 'signature move' he usually uses to support other parties. That being his 'quicksand' or 'liquefy earth' spell he uses to slow and trap enemies. The added coincidence with Quagmire from Family Guy just makes it all the funnier. I wasn't a big fan of this for his big nickname, personally, but i like that it shows his attitude whilst out with other parties, just supporting the team and not going all out with his big crazy spells at full power.

Honest, while was being a bit too rude about it, Soldat was spitting facts in the bar when he insulted Rudy. As someone who's been through a lot of depression before, he hit me pretty close to home too with what he said about putting up a smile that's never really real and half-assing everything due to a lack of motivation. Rudy very visibly wasn't giving his all and was mostly just idling and going along with things rather than really have any initiative, which is very clear when as a response to Soldat's taunting he feels the need to actually DO something, and singlehandedly saves Sara almost like it's easy when a full team might not've been able to do so.

Rudy is taking jobs that increase word of mouth, because he wants word of him to reach his mother in the hope that she'll seek him out. Soldat is taking jobs to make money, and because Rudy hasn't declared his intent to the guild people like Soldat don't understand why Rudy would take jobs that don't provide high pay. What really pisses off guys like Soldat, though, is that Rudy's fame has reached the other towns, while he's a relative unknown.

i would have to check but im pretty sure the whole money thing is also because he is taking jobs that pay money and then declining the pay for it sometimes, which sounds fine untill you realise he has taken money someone could have earned instead. its kinda like if you ran a bakery and right next door the bakery gave all its food away for free because it didnt need the money but you running that business do need it to live especially when you do jobs as a party

@@Chris3s sorry i guess my analogy wasnt that great, i more meant most of the jobs you can take are up on the board, so once rudeus takes it no one else can take it (unless due to extenuating circumstances) so now there are less jobs to pick from and then you find out the guy that has been taking some of these jobs will turn down the pay ( we know its so he can build a repour and get his name out there, but others dont yet) when you, or your entire party needed the money just to make it through another couple of days. he may have been doing it for semi good reasons-kinda, but he still doesnt know the after effects that makes on others in his same profession, it can also set a bad precedent when he is very capable and solves peoples stuff on the cheap or for free and then the next time something happens they go BUT THE QUAGMIRE DID IT FOR FREE, WHY CANT YOU? hopefully i explained it a bit better in the context of the adventurers themselves, im not that great at writing down my thought process or explaining stuff

I feel like they want the part 1 of this season to end at a certain point, so they are rushing through this arc and skipping so much content wich feels sad because every single arc in MT is perfect. I always felt regretful towards the skipped extra chapters in season 1, but at least whatever is actually adapted was perfectly done, this however is so much worse than the source material, so much cut content. I know they liked the episode, but it still could have been 10× better if adapted properly, I wonder why the crew working on the show are doing this.

Since each volume of the LN take 4 episode each time, there was originally 4 for this part of the story, however we had episode 0, so that fuck the whole thing up and they had to remove content from a volume (6 to 12), and welp volume 7 is the best one to do it since it's not really anything major (we can argue on that) and "just" Rudy getting back on his feet. I know the manga is not the reference when it comes to good Mushoku tensei adaptation, but there is a reason why it skip this whole volume in it : it's not that important for the story (the original Web novel doesn't had it either). One last nugget : the author work with the anime adaptation, so I would say it was his choice too if he had to choose one volume to "skip" a bit :)

They cut so much in this episode that you should see a vudeo of differences between anime and manga/novel, for example the girl rudeus help was afraid becouse the healers often ask for money and if they dont have can be sell as slaves, mimir in the cave use holic magic to exorcice a wrath and without him they couldnt beat the monster, the ruins where made in the first demon human war by a demin lord that use the highest eart magic and simoly move the castle underground, the fight against the tree eas longer

You say "what a good episode", and since it's still a Mushoku Tensei episode it is a good episode, but imo it might be the worst yet. You could really tell this episode that the animation, pacing, and direction have all really taken a nosedive in this season. Hell, just compare the opening against those in season 1. The difference is night and day and it's making me really really worried.

That was not a good episode. I don't understand why they decided to cut 90% of Rudeus monologues, he isn't fully healed yet but they made it look like he is. Truth is, Rudeus is in a much worse shape in the novel. Also, the animation was literaly not good on Soldat's fight, and the pacing felt off. I don't know why they decided to cut the entire Treant fight as well, Rudeus isn't supposed to flee but burn it to ashes. Finally the moment when Sara said "Thank you for saving me" to Rudeus lacked impact, it was great in the LN, amazing in the manga, in the anime... it just felt like any other sentence. Two good points though, that scene where Soldat tells what he thinks of Rudeus to him was nicely done, and the 5 seconds fight vs the Treant had a great animation.

Nah you tripping it was a good episode, maybe not the best but it also wasn't bad. I think you're overtly critical of it because you've read the novel and imagined what happened in this episode differently than the staff.

They made it to make rudeus likable to the general audience. I didn't mind the differences. The anime has a chance to read between the lines in the future. Where rudeus's humbleness gets in the way of reality in the novels.

I think the problem is because we are light novel readers we are very fortunate to have more content in the book as opposed to 25 minutes and we know what got cut out/wasn't included which sucks. I would agree with you personally this episode's pacing felt off, my hope was that 4 or 5 episodes would cover vol 7 but it looks like the next episode is that last for this volume and hopefully they don't mess it up because it's an important episode. But anime onlys though it was a good episode so I'm fine with that.

They've got a lot to fit into this season so they had to cut. I wish we could have longer episodes and longer seasons but that's not how it works.

They did a pretty good in my opinion. They've got only 4 episodes for extra chapters and volume 7 so they did 1/3 of volume 7 per episode. Yes, they cut off a lot of dialogues and inner thoughts, but it's nothing major and all important parts were included. It was way worse last season, they even cut off an introduction of minor characters and some details I loved. As for animation, there were some scenes that looked average, but I think they'll clean it for DVD version. My one and only complaint for this episode is boss fight. It looked like Rudy easily saved Sara, but he in fact almost died doing it

The animation and drawing downgrade could be tolerable if they weren't doing the story so fast. Soldat's part go so fast, you don't even have time to think about him

The downgrade in animation quality compared to S1 is noticeable, I don't really mind that. But, Episode 2 felt really underwhelming. The pacing was so weird. They completed one quest, came back to celebrate together, and then immediately went out again on another quest without bringing Rudy when they were just with him. And suddenly, Sara and Mimir are gone missing? All in the same day? I'm an anime-only but stumbled upon a tweet from an LN reader who said that Sara's smile to Rudy in that cave in anime didn't feel as impactful as in the LN illustration. After learning about the difference, I also felt a bit disappointed. The moment when Sara's impression of Rudy changed is portrayed so underwhelming in the anime. I hope Episode 3 will have better direction.
