*Max @AutoTopNL* , you actually said it in your review like 3 or more times- this particular engine does not have full 260Hp. Therefore it is ridiculously slow. Carbon buildup in engine? This review is unfortunately not doing a justice to a real performance of a healthy 3.2JTS. Other than this I agree with you :) It is very thirsty as it has to cope with Q4 and heavy weight of a platform initially planned for much larger vehicle (luxury sedan with v8). My pre-facelift 3.2JTS Q4 SW weights 1805kg per documents. After facelift (2008) they lighten up mainly suspension components and saved around 50kg. But 159 had the biggest torsional rigidity of all its competitors that time (3 series, A4, C class..). And I would 100% rather crash in 159 than in 156/147 (watch crash tests) :D Ti version of 159 has (apart from visual changes you mentioned in video) also lowered sport suspension by 20mm. That's only difference drive-wise. JTS was first introduced in facelifted 156 2.0JTS. Jet Thrust = direct injection. Stoichiometric in the abbrevitation means it keeps ideal air to fuel ratio, so all fuel is burned. In this engine it means that it burned lean mixture until 1500rpm to save some fuel and then used stoichiometric AF ratio. BTW: *only engine block* was sourced from Holden. Alfa used their own heads: JTS, variable timing, higher compression ratio. Last remark as many times this engine/ car is compared to 156 (even to 147). Yes, Busso was lovely to look at and sounded amazing and reved quicker, but also it was not possible for this engine to pass new Euro4 emission standards. Remove some of the CATs from this car (there are 4 of them) and put it in 156 and it would be quicker than with Busso. Also more economical since this is direct injection. You can't really compare 147GTA FWD light car with horrible crash test results with 3.2JTS Brera (which was more likely Q4 too) built on much heavier platform. That's not fair comparison. As an owner of 159 SW 3.2JTS Q4 I can tell you that they drive faster and accelerate harder. You can reach 240+kph and quicker too. So if you want a relevant result in your table, please find another car and do the measurements again. If you read up to this point, well done sir. Thank you for your video reviews :)

The biggest “problem” with the 159 is that the best engine in its series is either the 1.750 petrol or the 2.4 diesel. The V6 was never considered to be a good petrol as it was made by Holden (sacrilege for any alfisti!), and the 2.2 petrol is too slow, as is the 1.9 diesel. I have driven the 2.2 and thought it was horrible, and I own a 2.4 since many years that I’ve pushed on the autobahn without problems up to 230. The top speed (on gps) that I’ve reached in the 2.4 was 245 km/h, meaning that something must be wrong with this V6 as it really seems slower than the 2.4 diesel that has 60 bhp less. Still a very pretty car, and I get plenty of comments on mine despite its 200K km on the clock and it’s tender age of 14 years.

Alfa Romeo has a spirit , a car that makes you to feel an amazing experience , isn't about top speed or fast acceleration , and those engines aren't a true Alfa ADN , And doesn't expect something impressive form those engines . The Gulia Qv V6 2.9 is a true Alfa ADN

nice video, 159 has a gm (LLT) engine from the holden commodore SV6.the engine is long stroke, the busso has a short stroke engine. it is not the best engine. alfa did some tuning on it to make it a bit more sporty. it is such a dissapointment it lets it down a lot .

That precise alfa you're having on your channel may have some engine issues, because if you look on other 3.2 159 accelerations on you-tube they're much faster that that.

I own the V6 sedan and, yes, it's a heavy ass car. It does 0-100km/h in 5,6sec but it doesn't feel like it. And fuel economy truly is absolutely awful. Despite all the "bad" stuff I still love it to bits. I call myself an alfista and it's my first ever car. I plan on doing stage 1 and fit a catback or something for the exhaust. There's potential!

Let's look at the good sides: it is pretty heavy due to it being a very safe car for both front and rear passengers, 5-star rating at EURO NCAP, plenty of options on it (depending on the trim level you have), the 3.2, as far as I know, it is pretty reliable (never driven one tho) if you maintain it according to the service book, plenty of space inside, the sportwagon model is usually 50-60 kg heavier than the sedan version. The basic models have around 1.500 kg, they were designed to be comfortable, not sporty. Even so, they still pack some power under the bonnet.

Man, how can it be so slow?! It feels like something with 2x less power. Wonder if the engine has a problem, as mileage can’t be to blame.
@deramon10003 жыл бұрын
Actually the (low) mileage IS the problem. It was probably used for lots of short trips and caused a lot of carbon build up which is choking the engine

I still regret mine sometimes... but then I remember why I sold it, the insane fuel consumption, worst is in the city at slow speed, I had an average of 22l/100km, very difficult to go under 11l/100km cruising on highway at legal speed. Sold because of that, I wasn't able to afford the thirst of this inefficient nightmare (refuel twice a week at some point)

Hi guys I want to buy my first car and idk what model. So I love the sound of the Busso V6 (GTA Models). It could be a Brera or 159 too. I want to stay below 20k€. Are the models good in this price range?
@TheLordofcod3 жыл бұрын
I would really advise you to go for an alfa 159 1.9 jts with 160hp, or 2.2 with 180-190 hp. You can also get the 1.8 ti model but don't go over 10-11k€. I would go for the 1.9jts (160hp) with low mileage, very good consumption too! No need to go higher engine capacity as their performance doesn't change accordingly. These cars, except for their breathtaking design, are amazing for corners, if you wanna do mostly highway driving they are nice, but their sound insulation is not the best. For twisty roads these are like the Ferrari of the "poor"! I love my 156 and my father's 159! Forza Alfa!

@@TheLordofcod yeah really good cars and engines. My grandpa has a Alfa romeo spider (916) 2.0. What a great car. But im the sound type of guy i thought maybe a GTV 3.2 would be the right thing maybe but thanks for the advice I could look for some 4 cylinders too :)
@nvl26913 жыл бұрын
@@Luca-vl6ep I'd recommend the GT 3.2 - pretty much a GTA without the name and price associated with it. Won't be cheap for long though. Could get a 166 3.2 TI too. I'm hesitating between that and a 159 3.2 Q4.
@TheLordofcod3 жыл бұрын
@@Luca-vl6ep are you a soundfreak? Haha! I would sacrifice the sound for the consumption and price, you can find amazing prices for 1.9 or 2.2 . You won't believe it. Oh! And check for the front tires for over wearing, it means that the previous owner didn't change front suspensions on time and he drove it aggressively (I don't judge him, I drive it crazy fast in the corners)

I actually want to take mine (same spec) to the dyno. It seems slow even for a heavy car. I actually think its more due to the awd system than the weight itself. I estimate it would come back with about 200 to the wheel max.

This car might have some serious issues between the direct fuel injection system and the lambda probe (emissions measurement). Wrong infos between both systems, which result in poor performance.
@timdegroot41593 жыл бұрын
It is not much slower, but the JTS has taller gearing and much more isolation material, which reduces the impression of speed. It is also slightly slower, but that is down to the couple extra kilos of the car. And purely the block is from GM, everything else is designed by Alfa. stoichiometric stands for the ideal ratio between fuel and oxigen. In my opinion this should have been part of your research.

Obviously there is a problem with the engine. This seems more like 160hp not 260hp.Probably due to carbon build-up.
