Having had two of these, one being the elusive E61 touring, i can confidently say your pain is not over yet lol. Definitely check the throttle body linkages, actuators and sensors. The fuel pressure issue is PROBABLY the filter cartdridge on the the fuel pump in the tank. Had the same issue. Yours isn't that bad yet, because mine would reduce the rev limiter to something like 7000 rpm and say limited power on the i-drive system. The cats WILL clog and cause faults if you idle this thing too much, so avoid that if possible. No more than a few minutes. Don't rev it while standing still, drive it. If you can hear the sound changing on idle, then it is retarding the ignition timing and trying to run high overlap on the vanos system ... something cars normally only do at startup, but this high flow system has to do it when you idle it for too long, hence the problem. Also check the oil cooler in the front. There is a compression fitting there that is prone to failure. If this fails, high pressure oil will squirt out. This tends to happen at high load since it is controlled by a thermostat. In other words, if it is going to happen, it will happen during one of your high speed runs, potentially killing the engine and/or causing a crash for you and/or others. Check the trunk seal, because water will get in and collect in the spare wheel well (or what used to be a spare wheel well anyway) and kill your electronics. Blow out the roof drain ducts, or a similar thing could happen where water collects in the trunk. You can be happy about one thing guys: no SMG no cry

@@Edison73100 Have you owned an SMG car? There's a reason for all the hate dude. It's great when you're really on it, and i mean really on it. It is horrendous for anything else. If you use the auto mode (aka "D") on this, it will make you sea sick. But that's not even my point. They eat clutches for breakfast and go wrong all the time.
@Edison7310021 күн бұрын
@@detaart Yes, in my garage, a 2008 E60 M5 SMG with a Dinan 5.8 swap. Eats clutches,, BS I changed my OEM clutch at 130 thousand miles. Sea sick,, BS. It's different, it's not that bad especially when "people lie about clutches and whatever else. The only components I have changed SMG wise is the SMG pump and replaced the harness which was brittle but was tripping no codes, and change the oil as recommended. The biggest problem now with these M5's now are parts from BMW, so building the best at this point is unlikely "dude." These are grown up classic's for grown up people.
@detaart21 күн бұрын
@@Edison73100 A stroker kit isn't a "swap". Great! Your clutch lasted 130K, others have had failures much sooner. Again, it is a thing, and it is due to how the car slips the clutch when you drive it slowly and/or in traffic. They burn through clutches fast if you're not aware of what is happening. And no, it is a not a problem of "not driving it properly". It's an automatic, it should not require any kind of special technique ... but it does. SMG pump failures are common, aka the yellow/red cog of death. I've had it happen in one car. That's a 50% failure rate out of an admittedly small sample size. And yes, driving an SMG car in auto mode is like sitting on a teeter totter.

I own one of the other manual M5’s in NL. (I think there is at least 4 of them) The 8000 rpm / 200kph check engine is indeed definitely the fuel pump, it solved it for me. Also replace the fuel “sender unit” on the other side of the fuel tank, it contains an integrated filter and mine was absolutely disgusting. Also injectors are available again since about a week ago, BMW has over 1700 in stock.

Congratulations on your E60M5! The fuel injectors OEM are available at FCP Euro. They are pricey at about 195$ a piece but you can get them if you wanted. I heard that you can use injectors for the S65 or Ferrari 599 with a bit of coding involved otherwise. At that mileage your fuel filter that sits under the back seat may start leaking but it’s an easy and cheap fix. I have a full Fi Exhaust with Bilstein B16 coilovers with Turner underdrive pulley. I removed the charcoal filters and kept the stock intakes. I love my SMG, you just need to drive them like a manual car at slower speeds. My M5 has been very reliable (knock on wood). Hey guys I love the spec of the manual! FYI my dad has the e60 m5 as well and had quite a few issues with it of course, especially with the fuel pump. He ended up changing 3-4 fuel pumps and it seemed like there was no solution but after a bit of research it looks like the fuel pump is extremely sensitive to the fuel additives most “performance” or high octane fuels have. Ever since he started fueling up with normal 95 octane fuel 6-7 years ago there hasn’t been a problem with the pump again. Hope this helps !
@Haksdo222 күн бұрын
Best video yet guys, absolute perfect professionalism. Okay, that last bit is a bit BS but it was really fun to watch this kind of unscripted video. About the issues, when you mentioned that it was weird that at the revision they didn't replace all the injectors, I had a similar idea when you didn't replace the fuelpump. Those often break together with, or just after, you've had issues with injectors. It's somewhat similar to the waterpump when you exchange a worn cam belt (these days cars have cam chains more often then belts), you always replace them together. But hey, I hope this is the last of the issues you encounter. I do really like the red interior (combination with the wood is a bit weird but yea). A red interior, or red dials remember me of the old BMW M5's of the late 90's.

Congratulations to you guys! I've owned every M5 from the E39 to the F90 (along with numerous other M cars) and I've only kept the E60 since moving to Lamborghini because once you feel that EPIC V10 it's very difficult to have anything else. I also have an M6 GC as a runaround which on paper is a "better" car in every way but it's souless compared to the E60. I've also driven the E34 and E28 M5s too and as great as they are, don't really do much for me if I'm honest. I have a custom built exhaust from Akrapovic (they never made one for the E60 M5), Eventuri carbon intakes and plenum (nice to see you guys got this too as I was Eventuri's tester of the plenum for 3 years prior to release)...it just sounds unreal, another league compared with even my Huracan if I'm honest. I also LOVE the SMG but for the 1st year or so I didn't then something just clicked. You have to truly learn that gearbox and once you do, it's beyond rewarding. Have owned it for 8 years from BMW Park Lane and put nearly 60K miles on it and still has the BMW warranty. Reliability-wise it has been phenomenal for what is essentially a 4 door supercar (not super saloon like the others). Regardless it's not a factor for me as it's the definition of a weekend car. I really don't care what others say about the E60, being an owner of multiple M5s and put 10s of thousands of miles on them there's absolutely no contest the E60 M5 is not only the greatest M5 ever made but the best sports/super saloon ever made and it's not even close. One of the greatest cars ever. As Jeremy Clarkson said a few weeks after driving the Ferrari F430 "It's the best car I've ever driven" and you know a car is a true legend when it gets the AutoTopNL stamp of approval considering they've driven pretty much everything 🎉
