I tested the iCockpit in the 508 and I love it! (I'm 1,86m btw) That's literally the best driving position I ever had in a car. Yes the steering wheel is a bit lower than on most cars, but it feels a lot more natural to me. I actually struggle with most car as I can't go low enough without obstructing the dials, no issues with the 508. I learned to drive with an Aygo were the dials move with the steering wheel, so I could set the steering wheel in the most confortable way and know that I'm used to it, I struggle with most cars. The truth is that race cars have the dials over a low steering wheel! I also tested the engine, if it doesn't fit a sport car, on a GT like this 508 it's actually really nice and I love the gearbox. More the a DSG in town (even if the DSG is better on a track but that's not the real world).

Tested the 508 again today and hell yeah! Best seating position ever and the center console is not hurting my knees like in many German cars with way too large "altar" as center console.
@markod13536 жыл бұрын
@@Samosayummyyay Of course you can lower the steering wheel in other cars as well. The problem is that in many cars you can't lower it too much because then you can't see the whole speedometer. Take the VW Up for example. If I lower the steering wheel how I like, I can't see the speed range from about 70km/h to 160km/h. The way the VW designed the instrument cluster is too high up so as soon as you lower the steering wheel, the upper rim of the wheel blocks your view in the above mentioned speed range. Such ergonomic fuck ups really piss me off. So then, A) I have to raise the driver's seat, which with my 1,92m height is a no go, or, B) I'm forced to keep the steering wheel uncomfortably high. Whoever signed off the Up with such instrument cluster for production should get fired. I'd love to have the VW Up as a second car for daily errands. I think it's really cool and has those lovely 3 cylinder engines, especially the 95hp TSI. But then they totally ruin it for me with that stupid instrument cluster. Oh, and no center armrest. Another total flop in my book. None of that happens in Peugeot cars. I haven't driven the 508 yet, only the 308 GTI and the 208 with the 82hp engine. But yeah, by the looks of it, especially in the rear, it looks pretty damn cramped. Also, I imagine the rear view visibility is crap. Add to that that there seems to be no rear wiper option. With such flat rear window, that should be standard, and I don't care about how much it spoils the design of the rear hatch. How's rear view visibility in your experience?

I am 1,90 and drove the new 508 last week for a day. I think the main problem for most people with finding a good seating position is, that many drivers tend to adjust their backrest to flat back, so that they sit a bit like in a formula racecar, more lying. You see that a lot, I guess they think that this sporty or something. I sit a bit more upright with the backrest in a upright position (as the rally drivers tend to do it) and then it is no problem at all. So: I had no problems with the cockpit position. And Topspeed? My question is : Why wouldn't the 508 be given a 250 kph top speed if they did it at least once ?
@herrv19066 жыл бұрын
@@Dipierox Indeed, aerodynamics could explain the trick as the SCx is 0.62 for the 508 while it reaches 0.68 for the 308 GTI. In this setting, he is doing a 4km run slightly downhill. For the Bugatti Veyron, as the drag force increases at the square of the speed meaning that at 400 km/h it has to spend 16 times the energy necessary at 100km/h. In the case of the Peugeot here, between 200 (reached easily) and 250 km/h, the difference represents "merely" 50% more drag force to counter. No-one does this kind of speeds on a daily basis but I must say that each time that I have the occasion (as I am close to Germany), I do so.

Quite a harsh review but I appreciate the honesty. I admit, if you are tall its a problem. To me the new iCockpit it incredible and better than almost every car in its class, hopefully they think of a way around the steering obstructing the instruments (for those that this is a problem to).

I sat in this Peugeot, and I have to admit its beautiful car. I didnt drive it, but imo 200+ hp is more than enough for everyday use. Only real problem i encountered was space. Im nearly 190cm high and it took some time for me to find position in which i didnt feel like in coffin. I found that position but noone would sit behind me and my head was still like 3 cm from ceiling.

"for yor german boring cars" german boring cars? Germans make the best cars in the world. French cars are the worst cars in the world. It is officially tested. However, I don't think this new Peugeot is bad, it looks very.. very good imo! I think this car has potential, even for Peugeot.

Thoughts: Watching 2.5 years later, I gotta say many of the lows are down to you and your preferences. I like the I-cockpit (more than I'd thought I would), having driven the 208, 308 (crazy GTi 270 driver here), 3008 and 508. If anything I think you position your steering wheel in a weird position (the height I guess). I like that the cruise control stalk doesn't spin in circles with the steering wheel (I wish they'd left the stereo controls on a stalk too). Each to their own 🤷🏾♂️😊
@jtonline993 жыл бұрын
Things I agree on, the EAT8 gearbox is crap and there is lag down low in the rev range (altho 1.6L engine, what do you expect). Also the steering is a bit dead at times. 508 also reinforced that I hate driver aids.

Why is everyone so insulted with the video? I think he brings fair points up in the video. I watch his other review videos aswell and before i bought my i30N i watched his video aswell, he brough up really objective stuff in the video and tests almost everything. For me the i30N interior isnt bad because i used to have a 2nd hand car that i didnt expect much of it. So upscaling everything will always seem nice. For him he can objectively assess the quality and other things about the car because he has tested that many other cars.

225 horsepower for a daily is not quick enough? You're not suggesting buying it if someone's looking for performance although this car has more power than most of the cars you see on the road, M cars are not its competition, normal BMWs or Audis are perhaps, I mean the A4 gets 170 horsepower right? The BMW 3 series has 170 or 180 horsepower, the same price range of this 508 and it has 45-55 more horsepower, I agree with the i-cockpit issue but other than that the car looks priceless inside and out, and it has so much power compared to its competitors

The speed control system of 508, similar to the the one from 407, 208 etc is BRILLIANT! I know what I say, I drive Peugeots for over 25 years. I drive other cars too (VW, Skoda, Mazda, Citroen, Opel, ...). The problem is that the thumb finger is not precise and you cannot select the button to press without looking at the steering wheel!
