Lol got any funny stories bro? As a musician (drummer) I would definitely love to hear them!
@bobbeals28939 жыл бұрын
+DkS398 It's hard to relay them in print. You just gotta hear them to appreciate the humor. I use Sonar and the saving grace plug in for that is called V-Vocal. That's the type of program why Taylor Swift has a job. Some of these guys I've recorded sound soooo bad and you can see how off pitch they are in the program. The studio is unforgiving (as I'm sure you know being a drummer). I do have a drummer story for you though, I tracked this guy's drums and had to find a measure that he actually played somewhat in time, quantize it and cut and paste it through the song (8 tracks of drums). It took 13 hours of editing just to get the drums right before we could track the rest of the song. They ended up winning teen song of the year on indiemusicchannel.com. SMH over that one! Coulda used you for that track, DkS398!!! Woulda saved me a lot of time! Lol!!! Have a great day!
@dks39829 жыл бұрын
+Bob Beals Holy shit man, the struggle of being a sound engineer is real lol! My hat goes off to you and every other sound engineer out there because I know some people can just be a pain to work with. Do you have bands that come in often and don't use programs to fix their mistakes or do most people you work with need that studio magic? I'm with a band right now and we all pretty much hate auto tune for the vocals even if it's just a little bit because it'll make us sound unnatural, we like trying to sound as raw as possible you know what I mean?
@bobbeals28939 жыл бұрын
+DkS398 I use v-vocal on just about everyone that comes into the studio. I would advise that you take advantage of whatever pitch correction software your engineer uses. The pitch has to be close, or you're right, it can sound unnatural. If correcting small pitch issues sound funky, then I'm guessing that's your engineer's limited ability (not to sound too harsh). The problem is that your entire band is under the microscope when you're recording. Audiences are used to hearing perfection and if you want to compete, you have to give it to them. That's why I highly encourage my artists to utilize every "trick of the trade" to get it right in the studio. Live, you can get away with the small mistakes...but when someone is listening to your songs over and over again, they pick up the smallest nuances that are wrong. Don't get caught up in the "I want it to sound raw" shtick, because what sounds "raw" to you may sound "wrong" to a record label. Definitely capture your "sound" but don't let mistakes go by uncorrected. I hope that helps. It's my opinion...and you know what they say about opinions! LOL! Good luck in your recording endeavors!!!

Pro-recording producer-engineer here: In real life, there's NO amount of auto tune that could fix the vocal of a singer that bad. The singer HAS to be able to carry a tune TO BEGIN WITH! Also, auto-tune CAN'T change the timbre of a voice that much. "Schreechy" in means "schreechy" out. But it IS a GREAT comedy bit!!!!!!!

Sound engineers aren't cheap. I've helped on 3 albums for a band I grew up with and it cost an arm and a leg each session. Their equipment isn't cheap either. Just a set of Adam A7X active monitors for playback are $1,900. Now you still need to fill your racks with dacs, preamps, equilizers, etc. You need your mixers, your computer and software like Reaper and all your modules, etc. So... Don't feel bad for the sound engineers. They get paid for what they do (which is still underrated).
@broadwaydream936 жыл бұрын
It isn't like they don't, it's just that their cut of the payback is a dramatically lower fraction than the artists.

Roy Urboda Wait, so u think that Britney and all those artist can really sing? U do realize it is a Industry standard to run all singing vocals thru the Autotune box and not only do they do that they also add a Melodine plugin over the vocals giving them the appearance of a near flawless voice. Even some of the greatest singers have lost the ability to hit certain notes due to lack of training. Those pretty girls are used as an image and an image only, not for their "Talent"
@babycow58945 жыл бұрын
@@11TwentyThreePM Britney can actually sing, her real singing voice is really different from her baby voice. Her company never allow her to sing with her real voice because her baby voice is kinda like her trademark and it sells. @@royurboda7808 It's funny how misinformed you are about autotune. Those two particular individuals can't sustain a note long enough before going off-key.
