@bml337 жыл бұрын
I think the whole idea behind the 10 speed trans is to get the truck up to the highest overdrive as fast as possible for fuel economy. The torque converter locks up quickly in the acceleration curve and then it has 6 clutches so it can downshift without unlocking the converter. Also on a highway you can stay in the higher (better fuel econ) gear longer: 10th ratio is .636 while 9th is .689 so if you do need to downshift on the highway you can get more torque but also stay overdrive (even 8th is o/d) and barely even notice the shift. This trans is ALL aluminum, no cast iron parts at all, and only 4lbs heavier than the old one. But the fuel economy improvement is modest.
@JS-nd1po7 жыл бұрын
Bruce Leibowitz Ford and GM both worked together designing the 10 speed transmission with Ford being in the lead design.

Man I really like that truck a lot. I just still can't believe that you can spec a truck up to 75 or 80k and a nicely equipped 4x4 crew cab for any truck is gonna be at least 45k new. But still an a awesome truck.
@Who-Uhm-Cares6 жыл бұрын
Probably why you shouldn't buy brand new trucks. They drop is resale extremely fast also. Better off buying them slighty used or used.
@johnm98406 жыл бұрын
Actually the resell value of an f150 is better than just about any other vehicle. For example: I just traded in my 2014 f150 5.0. This is trade in value mind you.. I paid $47,000 for it new. With 45,000 miles they gave me $34,000 for it. It sold in one day for 36,500! How's that for keeping it's value. If I had sold it outright, I essentially would've only lost $10,500 in 4 years. Most other vehicle's lose ten grand immediately then continue to drop. In my opinion a F150 is smart money in this particular scenario.

I bought a 2016 F150 Lariat Supercab w/ 3.5L EcoBoost and 3.55 gears. Love it. Recently had the hard downshift from 5th to 4th fixed with a CPU reprogram. My only complaint with my truck is I have the smaller 22 gal tank, so I go thru a tank of gas pretty quickly with the 3.5 Eco. But i bought it at the time the 17s were coming out, and I kinda wish I had waited to get the updated powertrain. But my current vehicle was developing mechanical problems that I didn't wanna waste time and money on. Besides, it was a 17 year old truck. Time for something new. I paid $54K for my Lariat including taxes and fees.

Got a 2017 F-150 Supercab 6.5 Box 4x2 XLT 5.0 just over month ago. It was still new on the lot, even though the 2018s were arriving, and sold for a great price! Absolutely no complaints. After 3,700 miles the _average_ fuel economy is 19.9 MPG, and easily this achieves 24 - 25 MPG on the highway if headwinds are not strong. No special badging, just plain white. And that's fine with me, that 5.0 makes this 4,150 LB "plain" truck a sleeper. And the sound while accelerating with the factory single exhaust is very nice.
@markbuilt7 жыл бұрын
You will have to tell me how you did that , I do really well to get close to 15 M P G at highway speeds and around Callander
@LakeNipissing7 жыл бұрын
What is the build of your truck? Is it 4x4? Is it with 3.71 axle? Is it a club cab / 4 door? There can be many differences which will add weight, and reduce fuel economy. What does your information center show for engine hours and engine idle hours? I now have 7,700 miles. The fuel economy is now a little less with the VERY cold weather, and my switch to studded tires on steel wheels since the first week of December. The overall average MPG on trip meter 2, which I have not reset since the purchase of the truck is 19.6 MPG after more than 7,500 miles. So it seems to be 19.9 MPG on the factory Michelins on the factory aluminum wheels, and 19.3 MPG on the studded Nokians on winter steel wheels, bringing the total average to 19.6 MPG. I just tell it like it is. Never owned a Ford F-150, or any truck before, but I am impressed with the fuel economy achieved due to the lightweight aluminum body.

*I had a chance to drive an '18 150 with the 3.5 eco and man, what a fun truck to drive. That engine screams and will lay you back in the seat! I'd expect the upcoming Ranger to put a hurt on the midsize competitors, since it already is starting to kill the Hilux sales worldwide.*
@BroadcastBuddy6 жыл бұрын
Nope, but a lot of positive sales percentage points for the Ranger and falling percentage points for the Hilux. The Ranger is now outselling in Europe, New Zealand, Vietnam, Philippines, Britain, Cambodia & South America. It also is narrowing its way toward the Hilux in major markets of Africa and Australia and the Middle East. It truly is a well built and reliable ute, designed in Australia. I'd expect the revival in the USA will be welcomed with huge sales.
@BroadcastBuddy6 жыл бұрын
You think terrorists actually buy vehicles? Laughable... They steal whatever is available. I've seen them using Super Dutys, Hummers, Silverados, Land Cruisers. The Hilux is stolen more often because *surprise*, there's more of them to steal in the Middle East. And you kinda contradicted yourself there, the Hilux is currently the best selling ute, so by your logic 'it's not a reflection of build quality or reliability.'
@BroadcastBuddy6 жыл бұрын
None of your points offer a shred of scientific proof. You've managed to contradict yourself twice, offer only opinion, become a terrorist apologist, and then result to childish insults. I have a 2015 xlt super crew with 3.5L v6 and I love it. Now, mind you I don't tow anything with it but I do haul junk around and my family and their stuff and have no problem at all. I have been off roading with it and have travelled hundreds of km on logging roads in northern Ontario and had zero issues. It's a great engine but if I did have a large trailer or boat I might upgrade. But so far, in and around town and commuting, very comfortable and passes slow traffic no problem. I love your vlogs and look forward to the new ones.

Mc D's and Burger King are separate companies, GM and Chevy are the same company. Don't you mean Ford sells the most trucks like Mc D's sells the most hamburgers? GM and Chevy are not separate brands like Ford vs GM or Toyota vs Nissan. Fleet sales and marketing are the only reasons Ford sells a lot of trucks, not because of quality or long lasting.

One gets the idea you don't have a clue. The start/stop? For fuel economy, and it WORKS. Likewise hating on the 10 speed. Two reasons. Fuel economy as well as the ability to let the truck climb vicious grades with ease. It clobbers the big V-8 Chevy in heavy tow climbing. The Chevy gets better fuel economy in that same mode. But the engine/transmission mapping in tow mode provides for better performance AND fuel economy than ever before. Ford and Chevy use that same tranny and just map it differently. Running lower RPMs not only makes for better mileage but engines love that lower RPM.

i really like the look of this truck. although I have a kinda large chevy bias, I've come to respect all brands of trucks, and this one is the epitome of my reasoning why.

I like them in the non performance cars because at least we get sporty trims that are pretty quick

I'm a 5.0 person myself. I thought about test driving an ecoboost though.
@Kbhatti6047 жыл бұрын
nope. i also hate the eco-boost personally. i've got a 2011 f150 fx4 i've had since new with the 5.0 V8. its been nothing but an amazing vehicle. for me when it comes to my vehicles exhaust note is everything, its why i went with the V8 instead of the eco-boost. don't get me wrong though, the eco-boost is a beast of an engine that makes gobs of power but if you're buying it for towing, why wouldn't you just invest in a diesel instead?

I prefer the older look but the special edition on the 18 just looks sexy
@deslo_13497 жыл бұрын
I don't think I would own a Ford just strictly off looks . I've heard it's the best for towing in it's class compared to the competition . I've own a Dodge /Chevy but at least here in LA we either "lift"(nothing crazy like in Texas)our trucks or slam them to the ground. Speaking for myself I won't be hauling anything across country so I usually don't bother looking at Ford . Great vid tho boss

I've never been taken by the looks either, and I own one (a 2013 5.0). Its a dilemma im having, but ultimately the power and performance is becoming undeniable, at least for my needs: towing, long haul trips etc. They got close with a couple of the 2016 models to something simple yet badass looking, especially when done up properly, but they went and fucked it up again this year. Also their interiors could be better, comparing to the fit and finish and feel of both dodge and gmc. Guess it just comes down to whats most important to you. I wanna rip up hills at high altitude with composure, towing my 7500lb fiver. The 3.5 does just that, impressively well. Gonna wait till this 10 speed isn't so fresh though

Yea, well just because something is expensive doesn't mean it's of a better quality neither. I know what you're implying because every Toyota idiot seems to read the same brochure. I'll tell you now, Toyotas have just as many problems as the others.

THE 10speed for power reasons keeps the truck in the power band so every time it shifts you have the power, the truck is so much quicker with it. I’ll say this, I have a 2018 raptor, and the eco boost with the 10speed is just perfect. With what you get out of the power train I couldn’t give two shits about sound. Plus I like the sound of the raptor, it’s not loud but it’s really cool to listen to the blow off value for the turbos. And that goes for the entire eco boost line up.

LOVE this truck!
@repairvehicle7 жыл бұрын
Also, one other reason why Ford sells more F-150 than anyone else, is because truck frames cannot be repaired and people don't have a choice except buying a new truck. This video has details about F-150 frame kzbin.info/www/bejne/fquTq2Bnbs6mgcU
@kingdaniel35197 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's called a crumple zone. It either absorbs or deflects energy away from the occupants in the cab. It performed exactly as intended. The Tundra frame is such a piece of shit it can damage itself on rough roads. In that video half the front end of that truck is missing. In no way is that considered a "light collision". Guarantee you put a Tundra through the same collision and it would be just as bad if not worse. You buy damaged vehicles presumably to repair and resell them. It's a living and I understand that. However, you're not a structural engineer, you're not a crash forensic expert, you don't know the kinds of forces exerted on the truck at the moment of impact to make the determination that the frame is "junk".

@nolanrobinson67537 жыл бұрын
Got too cheap? Aluminium is severely more expensive that steel, without the rust.
@Mattea687 жыл бұрын
Aluminum is cheaper to buy than steel and aluminum corrodes(which is a form of rust) and cant be worked on the whole panel needs replacing. and as i said its a reason to really jack the sticker price and it doesnt hold and will never hold as good as steel

Multiple super duty's have hit a million without issues, crown vics have, town cars,e series van. GM has had multiple trucks do the same. Don't forget plenty of heavy duty rams have done the same. Stop kissing Toyotas ass and think, they make great vehicles but full size trucks they have always been a let down. If Ford didnt change the f150 for a decade it would be bulletproof like the tundra.

bought a 2018 Ford in may got deal on a xlt 5.0 V8 4x4 only thing I don't like is the stop start feature but thank God there is an over ride button for that just have to remember to hit the button right after you start the truck so I give it a 9 out 10
@QuanChabalua7 жыл бұрын
The reason Ford F150 truck is #1 just because of huge production (number's game). In fact, Ford does all kind of incentives to get you to buy them but in the end it doesn't last like other trucks. Tundra makes way less # of trucks and it lasts forever. No offense to Ford truck owners.
@kingdaniel35197 жыл бұрын
Hardly. The Tundra has just as many problems as the rest. You just don't hear about it as much because there isn't as many Tundras as there are others.

Mr QDP Fords last and will out pull a Toyota. Most people where I live but trucks for towing and hauling, most trucks around here are Fords and Chevys with a decent amount of Rams. Their a a few Toyota and nissans but they are hugely outnumbered.

God I couldn't agree more. The start stop feature is so annoying and it has actually almost caused me to get into an accident a couple times in my Ford Escape because it doesn't go right away when you put your foot on the gas. The savings in gas is so minimal you'll never notice it if you use it. At least give us the option to turn it off and keep it off so you don't have to keep pressing the button every single time you restart the vehicle. I saw they are putting the start stop on even the v8 now not just the ecoboost engines.
@tommytruth75957 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, for 2018 the start/stop horseshit will be on everything Ford makes. I am done with Ford.
@tlv1567 жыл бұрын
Tommy Truth Yeah. I know what u mean. I have the 2016 Mustang GT and it doesn't have it thank God but it's a manual. I don't think there new manuals would have that feature for obvious reasons. When my escapes lease is upon going to be getting a pickup truck. If they haven't made a way to disable the stop start permanently I'm not even going to bother looking at fords. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a tundra.

The F-150 is such a high selling vehicle that one person could probably ride in 1,000 of them from one generation (without getting a job at a dealership, valet parker etc, and/or with Ford). Yes, that's four figures from one generation, given the right combination of circumstances, birth year, and location. It would take a heck of a lot of effort over several years but I would present them a medal myself. Ford makes the best pickups, y'all. September 27, 2018 11:33 pm
