After a spout of bad health and a busy period finishing up the work season I'm finally back out for a day trip in the woods.
I forage for some last edibles alongside the evidence of squirrels efforts to do so too and then cook up an autumn bannock bread to keep energy levels up.

Hello there I love this autumn colours I have some real tree jacket and trousers in autumn colours you can get close to creatures when tracking, I get with in a few meters of deer's because there colour blind

Thanks dude! Definitely give it a go. Self raising this time but you can use plain but then add baking powder. 2 parts flour - 1 part milk powder, sugar & salt to taste 🙏

Your gray and black squirrels (imported to England by well meaning but misguided countrymen of yours) are the same species, the eastern gray squirrels of North America. The blacks are melanistic mutations of the eastern grays. When I hunted them in my youth in Pennsylvania I’ve seen both color variations in the same litters. And by now you’ve found out they are like herpes, once established they are hard to get rid of. So, enjoy!

100% same species, just the black version or melanin has changed due to some competitive advantage. In Hitchen, Hertfordshire this has been the case for some time.

@@cherryfieldecology5276 awesome to learn, I had assumed they were an invasive sub species! I first saw them in Hitchin about 6 years ago too near Princess Helena college.
