The Silence in Between sounds sooo good. Adding it to my list! Forty Autumns was an incredible nonfiction book about the Berlin Wall. After that, I'm interested in reading more about that time.

I’ve never read about that time period before, but now I’m intrigued!

Interesting Haul! I bought 3 recently, all Australian. Two that I've already read and are keepers on my shelves, Juice by Tim Winton- Literary Post Climate Change Dystopian Max Mad/Mission Impossible style and Praiseworthy by Alexis Wright, it's just masterful. I've also bought one from Alexis Wright's backlist a 25th anniversary edition of Plains of Promise. Happy Reading 🙂

Du Maurier is so good! She wrote SF, mysteries, horror and historicals that I know about. So very gifted! I've read Glass Blowers and enjoyed it! Last Thursday I got to go to a library sale in a close by town and got 11 books! For $7.50!! In addition to mysteries and spy thrillers, I got London by Rutherford and Seabiscuit by Hillenbrand. Have you read any Rutherford? I enjoy Michener so I think I will like him.

Seabiscuit is excellent! I really want to dive more into Du Maurier’s work - she really is so talented.

My husband read Three Men in a Boat a long time ago and I remember him laughing out loud a lot of the time - I have yet to read it though. There is a sequel - Three Men on the Bummel - I know nothing about it and hubby has not read that one. We don't often shop for new books - most of our books come from charity shops here in Scotland. If I'm enjoying an author, I like to read their books in order - so we have LISTS!! Daphne du Maurier is on the list and I've only read The House on the Strand because it sounded different than others I've heard about - it was a very unusual story - I have been fairly lucky in picking up a few of her other novels and am looking forward to reading them. I am reading The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle - I love crime, true and fictional - and I'm enjoying the different take on that genre. I live in small town which had a library until recently but its closed now. We can go to another small town library or order books online which are then delivered to a local cafe - that's ok if we know what we want, but I like to browse and chat to other library users and the librarian - I miss that.

Oh my! Your library closed! How awful! I'm a huge fan of the library and all that it has to offer. I'm very curious about du Maurier's works especially her lesser known works. Maybe I'll take the plunge and make an order for 'hard to find' titles.

I did not like the character in The Magicians so dnf’d the first book. I love an Arthurian retelling, so his new one intrigues me. Beautiful faces is stunning. I have a Dorothy Dunnett on my wish list because of you. I recently purchased Daphne Du Maurier’s first book which is set in the 18th century, The Loving Spirit. I do exactly the same when shopping secondhand - I check everything - but tend to browse a bit more or look for particular books and authors rather than look at everything in a big bookshop

I finished The Bright Sword and think you'll absolutely love it! All of the flaws that were ever-so glaring in The Magicians didn't show up in The Bright Sword - I think Grossman has really grown since his first series. The characters are diverse and just wonderful -- there may or may not be a trans knight. Everything is delicately handled with a ton of magic and wonder. I just loved it. Anyhow, I just wanted to gush to you because I think it's a good choice for you, Jack. :)

I would love to find The Glass Blowers by Daphne du Maurier. I bought the books to complete Louise Penny’s Three Pines series this month even though I am only on book 2 as I am enjoying them. Oh and I got 4 Elizabeth George books in the charity shop (I wonder who influenced that 🤔)?

Americanah is good, but it was kind of ruined because for me because I read the reviews on the back and one of the quotes said it was similiar to a very famous novel and so gave the whole plot away! So don't read the cover until you finish the book!
