How does one get a piano to sound so .... soft? Feels like there's felt underneath the keys and I'm here for it.

when you press a piano key, it moves a "hammer" inside the piano - the hammer is actually covered in felt and it hits the strings and that's what you hear. so it might actually have something to do with the felt :)

@@claire.morgan had one growing up and must've had no felt as it sounded much more aggressive 😁 so it might actually be felt? I might get one for myself in a while and love to be able to play this soft. Thank you Claire!

@@jessicapinto3817 When they've been played for a long time, the strings literally wear out little grooves in the felt. So it really might be that! There's other factors too, but I don't know much about them. I have a digital piano / keyboard and you can choose from different piano sounds (some mellow, some bright) and you can adjust different sound characteristics like the loudness of the hammers and whatnot. You can also pick different environments, for example as if you were playing in a cathedral and it's kind of echo-y. It's pretty cool! I have a Roland FP-60X if you're interested.
