I would say it’s also okay to be a bit hungry. Most people when feeling hungry, are not literally starving. You don’t have to feel full all day. Also, sometimes that hunger feeling might actually be thirst. Or it might fade after several minutes.

Yeah, I always forget that it's normal to feel hungry before a meal. Then again, if you're feeling hungry all the time, you probably need to up your protein and fiber content. Your diet won't be sustainable in the longterm if you're always feeling hungry.

I started working on my diet just recently. I had a sweet tooth all my life and after 25, with the stresses of adult life, never having been an active person, it started to really catch up to me. Cutting out added sugar, sweets and other processed snacks in general was easily the hardest part. The initial cravings were WILD, way worse than quitting cigarettes even. It's been smooth sailing ever since those cravings have finally subsided and now I'm enjoying my new diet journey quite a bit. I've always been intimidated by changing my diet, but it's actually a lot of fun finding new foodstuffs I like and experimenting with ingredients I've never tried before.

I looked at a table of cakes and pastries at the supermarket and said to myself, “Why don’t they just put out cocaine?” Sugar and cocaine stimulate the same reward center in our brains! Yikes! I just think of processed foods and junk foods as “poison”, which they are! I’m a pesca-vegetarian so I do eat fish, but no foods breaded, fried, made with hydrogenated veg oil (Crisco, margarine), corn syrup or high-fructose corn syrup, no artificial colors or flavors, no bleached white flour (chlorine, yuck!) or added sugars. I have a Starbucks issue these days since I work in a library that has a Starbucks in the building. The good side to it getting hot outside is if I start wanting a coffee (I love the sugary mochas), I go for a walk in the heat. By the time I come back, I’m too hot to be in the mood for a hot coffee (and I don’t like cold coffees). It’s been very helpful so far at kicking the craving AND getting me moving throughout the day. And though the label on my powdered creamer doesn’t scream anything scary I don’t believe it’s a good thing to use in the amounts I do. It’s a daily habit that signifies my morning routine and personal time. It’s literally the one part of my day I really look forward to (no kids and my husband waking me up w my coffee every morning…. A true joy) So how bad should I feel about this addiction? I need facts. 😂

My biggest question about my personal health journey is if using all purpose and bread flours are alright when I make my own breads and doughs at home. I don’t have any intolerance or allergy to wheat or gluten at all, so it isn’t causing that kind of inflammation, but is it considered processed if I use it to make my own baked goods? Does it affect my body the same way buying bread and muffins at the store does?

I do eat whole grain, unsweetened cereal in small portions. Like Bite-sized Shredded Wheat. Oats and wheat together give you more protein, and add some Greek yogurt or hi-protein plant milk such as unsweetened soy, or Ripple (made fr pea protein), chopped raw or dry roasted nuts, maybe some unsweetened coconut shreds. Handful of Blueberries or 1T raisins, dash of cinnamon. Yum!😋

So if we’re suppose to eat 1 gram of protein per pound of desired body weight-say 150 lbs, that’s 150 grams of protein divided by 3 meals( you say snacks aren’t necessary if we’re eating enough protein at our meals). 50 grams of protein for breakfast, lunch and dinner is a lot. And what your body doesn’t use, the excess could be stored as fat. Kidney function is effected by a too high of a Protein diet as Ive had that issue more than once. No one ever discusses the effects of too much but it is something aware of.

It’s only hard on the kidneys if you have other kidney problems. Lots of information online about that misnomer. Also, one gram per pound isn’t really “high”. Normal, healthy, people can easily handle one gram of protein per pound, and the health benefits are well documented, especially as we get older.

Hey Autumn! Love this video and I just subscribed. So thank you for sharing your expertise! I’m dedicated to a high protein diet and I have no issues eating healthy. I do have one particular addiction- powdered coffee creamer. I then have my morning health shake. This is honestly the only outside of my diet item in my life. I cook at home, I don’t drink alcohol and I’m back to my regular 6 days a week rowing and walking for cardio. But I just don’t see me giving up my daily monstrous coffee habit to which I add an embarrassing amount of powdered creamer. I don’t add sugar - I don’t eat sweets. Except when I wake up to my slow drip coffee with exorbitant powdered coffee creamer. So a) just how awful is powdered creamer b) are there any good options to replace coffee. And no- I have tried every single healthier alternative to my powdered creamer. It all just tastes like Splenda or fake or not good. It won’t work for me. When I take the plunge and learn to suffer without it I’d rather have nothing but my shake. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly welcomed! 🙏🏻✌🏻

Really good video we never get tired of hearing the truth. It’s never tiring…. i’ve pretty much cut out all processed food and all those nuts seed oils. If I go to a wedding or a special event, I’ll relax. I have to give credit to you …. You got me to eat more protein and it’s made a gigantic difference with me not being hungry all the time and though I was slim before now it’s 61 just about have six pack and I’ve put on more muscle and lost fat and the cravings. do go away. If you cut out the process food it’s been an interesting experience.

Isn't proteine powder also a ultra processed food?
@baegels5272
@baegels5272 7 ай бұрын
Absolutely! I follow a German nutritionist (Ken kocht) who also points out that protein yes helps to feel full short term, but not long term. After about two hours, one wants to eat again. Instead to overeat on protein, he'd suggest to eat enough fiber in a variety of vegetables in order to feel full for longer.

@@baegels5272 I read something simalar. To keep you're glucose stable, start your meal with fiber from veggies, then your protein and then your carbs. It did say that protein does help to preserve muscle mass

@marindawestra-mulder8608 I saw this advice too. I think it was Glucose Goddess that advocates eating veggies first, then proteins and good fats, then carbs. Eating foods in a certain order helps prevent glucose spikes that leave you hungry and craving sugar.

It's not just for weight loss, it's for overall health. As far as you are consistent, results will come. Finally, having a break for the usual days all of us have (Christmas, etc.) won't screw you.

Unfortunately after eating too much last Thursday I gained 3.4 lbs which it had taken me 10 days of very strict eating clean, counting calories, drinking 1 gallon of water/day, lots of walking and strength training to lose that. I learned for me sticking to clean eating til I reach my goal is essential. Maybe then I can have 1 cheat meal/week? Idk, we shall see!

There’s tons of contradictions going around about weight loss and nutrition. It’s quite frustrating for us regular people. Could you do a video talking about what happens if a person is in to much of a calorie deficit for too long and how to work through those plateaus. Specifically my wife would have a higher protein/fat breakfast and not be hungry the rest of the day only having 400-500 calories. Her body started storing fat more rapidly. Also, weight loss may be the wrong focus since fat weighs less than muscle, what nutrition better supports fat loss?

UP carbs and fats specifically are found to have addictive qualities. Although a lot of protein powders or ready to drink options have added sugars that can make it problematic. That’s why I use 100% monk fruit extract instead for a natural zero sugar option.
