Auxbeam vs. Rigid Industries - LED Light Comparison

It's a show down between Auxbeam's 20W Philips Spotlight and Rigid Industries Hyperspot light. The first difference most folks notice right away is the price. The Auxbeam's sell for $58 and the Rigids are $208 on amazon. So many folks think they are the same and try to save a buck.... the question is, is it the best course of action?

Driving down a trail I think the flood pattern is way better to see. I'd much rather be able to see what is jumping out in front of me right now than see what is a mile down the trail.

I have some Auxbeams and can confirm the coating decay, yellowing, and lens condensation. It is considerable.

I had an AUXBEAM larger lightbar and all I did was tightened down the allen screws in a cross pattern so it was an even tighten didn't even need silicone 3 years and still water tight. Lenses I clean (wax) every car wash no yellowing. Buddy of mine has a larger Rigid is it brighter a definite YES. The finish is better ect... but you can buy a lot of Auxbeam replacements for the cost of a Rigid. The fact is even Chinese LED lights are still brighter than halogen lights of a generation ago (that people were paying big money for back in the day), unless your a professional racer or have disposable $$$ Auxbeam or some of the others work just fine.

I have been using Axubeam lights on several of my ATVs and tractors for years. I purchased a set of Rigid D- Series Pro Driving pattern and it changed how I felt about lights. For years I felt that Rigid was overrated and too expensive, but now I can honestly say that they are worth the money. Rigid's lights are brighter and have a better beam pattern than Axubeam. Now I'm not saying that Axubeam is a bad light, but if you can afford Rigid you won't be disappointed. I have a pair of Auxbeam side shooter(a decent light) I also have the Auxbeam flood pods and spot pods. The side shooters are good lights for the money as well as the spotlights. On the other hand, the Axubeam floods are really lacking in my opinion. When I can't afford a set of Rigids i buy Auxbeam. When I save up and have enough $$ for Rigid, the Auxbeams do get replaced.

One of the main reasons that rigid industries light is so much brighter is because the beam pattern is different. Rigid is 5 degree spot and Auxbeam is 30 degree spot. That is a big difference in pattern. Thats like comparing a flood beam to a spot beam. Auxbeam is a spot and Rigid is a Hyperspot. So unfair comparison on the beam pattern / light output of the test. I have a phillips 8 degree spot which is very similar to the Rigid Hyperspot. I'm sure you didnt know about the degree of tightness pattern of each light. But you should have if your going to do a full review.

Your kinda right and kinda wrong. According to Auxbeams website they call these lights their Hyperspots but state that its a 30 degree spot. So Auxbeam just has a sloppy Hyperspot compared to Rigid's Hyperspot. Also Rigid just uses better tech than Auxbeam so of course it'll be brighter. Lastly 30 degrees isn't practically a flood, flood is at least 60 degrees.

Great comparison. I run Rigid's on my miata for monte carlo styled road rallies, mountain driving, rural roads, and let me tell you one thing: buy once, cry once! I went down the route of "cheap, knock off chinese lights." In the end they never lasted or put out good light and in the end you end up buying replacements which end up costing the same or more then if you got the better one's from the get go. Yes they are expensive, but they work, look good, last, and are pretty damn bulletproof. Here is also a few things people need to pay CLOSE attention to. AMP DRAW! You can load up your alternator to the max quickly with lots of electrical loads, headlights, cooling fans, interior lights, winch, and LED light bars/pods. It adds up quickly. Rigid D2 Hyperspot pair - 3 amps (2 LED pods, 1.45 amps each pod) auxbeam "hyperspot" - not listed I've had my LED's for around 4 years now, no faded paint, no yellowed lenses, no condensation. I have had road debris nail these lights! A couple of retreads, rocks, branches and it barley scratched the covers. This is just my .02 cents worth......

I think I am going to go with the auxbeam. Not so much as a cost but more of the light pattern I want. Using them for backup lights and a wider pattern seems to be more of what I want.

I had a pair of the Rigid D-series put in each fog light bucket plus a larger one put on each side of the license plate of my 2013 Raptor. After 6 1/2 years they are like new. Clean and powerful. I will get them on my next truck.

Very good real world review! I paid a lot of money for my rigid 20" light bar and 2 years later the lens is still like new and I've never been disappointed with the light it throws. I guess you do get what you pay for and if you can afford and justify the extra money for the good gear, it's always worth it. Reviews like this help everyone make a decision about that. Good work!

Not really true, I own both and they both work well but I use them for different reasons. I have rigid on my Trackchair and they do a good job for wat they are designed for. All things in life have limitations and the rigid limitations are their price. Now that there is more market saturation, the price should come down. But it hasnt, Rigid really hasnt advanced the tech in years and they are selling for even higher prices than before. They paid for the tooling and overhead outlay years ago. Now they are doing it purely for profit. LEDs are so incredibly cheap and the hardware on rigid lights has gotten lower quality. My original lights are built like a tank and were actually mounted on my M-ATV in Afghanistan. They are a much higher quality than the new ones on my trackchair. The ones on my truck are starting to rust around the hardware and one has a corrosion bubble under the powder coat. So we are getting less quality for more money and their cost to make them has reduced. Maybe if they stopped making stupid flashing colored lights that are illegal to use anyway they would be able to lower their prices. The market has changed, Jeeps are only a small part of the market now, their products are on everything now but with Rough Country, PIAA and others coming out with better alternatives at lower prices, I'd look for rigid to lower theirs or leave the market.

It’s not hard to justify, great light at a great cost and your not spending extra on a name. Rigid are easy twice as good, maybe even 3 times but you pay 5x as much. What if you got 5 sets of auxbeam? In this test I don’t think he used the best auxbeam. Looks like he used a $50 40watt set. They make a 110 watt set for $130. Not saying they would be better then rigid but probably close for 1/2 the price. Also if you are just looking for light for going the speed limit and not building a show car for most people the auxbeam is a better option.

Those auxbeams make for wonderful reverse lights for a truck with a camper shell or heavy tint. Wide angle projection and low cost - mount them under the truck below the rear bumper and your days of reversing in darkness are over. The Rigids look like they have an absolutely brilliant and well focused beam for forward facing applications. Nice to hear they put the effort into their product and went with powder coating. In terms of finish longevity it's pretty damn hard to top a nice powdercoat. KZbin is overflowing with videos that are a waste of my time. This was not one of those videos- Awesome upload! Keep up the good work bud!

You get what you pay for really. the rigid is obviously a better product i dont think anyone is arguing that. that for a guy who is a week end wheeler or maybe once a month type of person i think the answer is clear. go with the aux beam and put some covers on them to protect the lenses.

i built a street fighter street bike and for that i put on two rigid lights one spot, one flood, but in that scenario i was riding every day and often at night. they out shined every other bike i ever rode with i was lucky to never get pulled over lol. i also put the amber covers on them to dim them down as well as aimed them down at the road as much as i could to not blind oncoming drivers.

I noticed you didn't say how much the Ridged Industry pods were. I'm pretty sure the cost more than 3 times as much as the Auxbeam pods, for that much money I would hope they'd out perform the Auxbeam. But, you have to admit, for the money, you can't go wrong with Auxbeam, especially the CREE ones, as they are brighter than the Phillips versions.

I'm tough on my truck and my boat, so I need a light that is durable enough to withstand anything I go through. After nearly more than four years of use, Rigid works without any flaw. Some times I feel that the intensity is a bit lessened, may be because of the many hours of use. Still they are excellent with the spread and spots. Will always be a Rigid fan.

You need to be clear about the specs on what you're reviewing. The Rigid is a 5 degree hyperspot beam patter while the Auxbeam is a 30 degree spot beam pattern. You posted the specs (probably from their sites), but it doesn't seem like you knew that as you failed to explain it and how that might effect the beam patterns. Auxbeam does have a 10 degree hyperspot, which would have a better comparison; however, the Rigid would still have a tighter beam pattern based on the design specs.

Be clear on the specs he is reviewing?! Do your own research and stop expecting to be spoon feed. The video is simply auxbeam "hyperspot" vs Rigid "hyperspot." It is not TrailRecon's fault Auxbeams Dumba** called a light with a 30 degree pattern a hyperSpot. Auxbeam light had yellow foggy lenses, weathered housing, no wiring harness (sold separate) and the hyperspot SUUUCKED!

My point is that when he is comparing the beam concentration/focus and declares the Rigid the "winner" on that point is not very accurate; he should have and at least mentioned that. Auxbeam has other lights that are 10 degree.

Sorry, didn't mean to type "F." But, any who, I would never classify a 30 degree light pattern as a "hyperspot." That is false advertisement and it should be listed as more of a "driving" light. TrailRecon nailed it and gave people a very informative video. Arguably one of the best LED light demos online. Auxbeam should have made their "hyperspot" beam 5-8 degrees to be a true "hyperspot" to compete as an alternative to Rigid "Hyperspot." False advertisement in my opinion.

Ram 1500 They don't consider it a "hyoerspot" according to that previous post. Just a spot light. Truthfully, since the rigid is 4 times the cost, it's hard to justify the purchase. Ive ordered Chinese lights for 1/6th the cost of a rigid that push just as much light. I don't know about finish or anything. I doubt it holds up that well compared to the powder coat. Rigid makes high quality lights, but they're not invincible. I feel like you pay 3 times what they're worth so you have an unmatched warranty behind it.

I like the comparison video but the next step is price analysis. Rigid sells for $150 a single light and $280 for a pair. Auxbeam sells $29 a single light and $56 a pair. It was obvious the Rigid was brighter and more focused as a spotlight but if one were to spend $280 dollars on spotlights they could buy 5 pairs of Auxbeams. That's 10 Auxbeams vs 2 Rigids. Now to compare the value of the money spent one would have to install all 10 auxbeams and 2 rigids to see which is brighter or obviously just install 5 auxbeams and 1 rigid then compare the brightness. I've used many cheap LED lights over the years. If you take them apart and carefully add silicone to the seals they'll never get condensation. Rigid is obviously far superior in quality and brightness. But a tube of marine silicone can make those cheap Chinese LED lights last even though they aren't as bright. Sometimes ya just don't have a big budget and the cheap ones will do an ok job until you can afford the best.

Good review. Shows the differences. I sell both products in my store and I tell people "look Rigid is the best, better quality and you you pay for" but for those who can't spend that much, AuxBeam is the economy line i sell. Still great stuff, slightly different manufacturing. Not as high quality with the mounts or the housings, but damn good for the price you pay. MOST of the lights on my demo truck are AuxBeam. I use their 5D lights because they include bleeder valves and work for my needs.

I have dealt with auxbeam customer service. They do respond to email but never can get anyone on the phone. The warranty replacement took 6 weeks. I got it quicker cause I filed a paypal dispute. Rigid is better and you can actually get someone on the phone. You get what you pay for.

Great review! I bought the 20" version of the Auxbeam light ($120 from Amazon) you reviewed for my wife's Rubicon last June. I have not had trouble with water intrusion, but your dead on with the yellowing of the lens and the faded enamel coating.

Good review. I have had similar experience with Rigid lights. Good quality, though I did get a bit of condensation in one lens but it seems to have cleared up. Rigid lights are EXTREMELY bright! The wiring was supplied as shown and allowed for complete instalation. I also purchased a set of lens covers, since they are after all not glass. the lights have been in use for over a year and are in great condition. As said, you get what you pay for.. and they are expensive!

Excellent video sir, I don't know if I missed the comparison of the rigid on your jeep for 7 months to a year or whatever to see the difference on the lens, but the right out of the box brightness was an amazing discovery, I know everyone always says rigid are the best, well, I would say you proved it in this video. If you find the chance, and i hope you do, there are is likely a niche of folks like myself who would be interested in a comparison and performance of the Rigid Industries SAE 46524 and 50481 with other SAE/DOT (LED) light sets which can go from on-road to off-road. Lighting for the off-road and can still have it to use for on-road. Thank you in advance if you do decide to post.

I have the same auxbeam on my jeep now for 9 months , been thru 3 months of heavy rain in northern CA , so far the light are great , no water Inside or what so ever , the light works great and for 60$ a pair compare to 180$ rigid , can't complaints

I have had rigid lights on my JK since 2012. The lense is crystal clear since day 1, the outside coating looks as shinning black since day 1 and no condensation from anywhere car wash, heavy rain while driving down the highway. No issues what so ever. Well worth the investment.

Great comparison! We use Optilux cubes, they are made by Hella. They are less expensive than the Rigid but they are not as budget friendly as the Auxbeam though. They are very durable, we had a 12" bar on the back of our JK when it was rear ended, caused $9K in frame and body damage, the light still works! The lens isn't even cracked, just scuffed up a bit. We still have it, just don't know where to put it because we run two cubes on the back now and not just a single bar.

I have all RIGIDs on my Tacoma. I've done the cheap route...but you really do get what you pay for. The cheap knock offs start to dim over time...major condensation...discoloration. Yes, you get a pair of lights for 50 bucks...but what's the point if you have to keep replacing them? I have a pair of D2's 4 years running. Love them.

Just bought a Rigid Industries 10" SR-2 Hyperspot light and I love it! it can see what's ahead of me down the road for at least 1/4 mile maybe even more and that's with just the 10"!!! Planning on getting the 40" SR-2 Combo with Hyperspot/Driving pattern which is expected to shine at least 3/4 mile! The only problem is the price :/ $1200 for the 40" and the 10" Hyperspot was $320. If you buy Rigid Industries lights through CarID.com they are a little cheaper but not by much. Rigid sells the 10" for $350 and CarID had it for $320.

I purchased a set of Rigid's flood lights as auxiliary back up lights for my pick up. They look nice and shinny, just like the day I bought them. The plug and play connectors make installation easier and if you ever remove the lights, it will be just as easy. I saw a promotional video put out by Rigid where they put a band saw to one of their lights. And it still worked!

Hey guys...just for your info...the connector on the back end of that Rigid is a Deutsch 2 pin. They are a great quality connector for automotive, industrial, off road vehicles and military. I have worked as an engineer in 2 of those industries and we never had issues with those connectors.

My motto is to get it right the first time. I would get the Rigid lights since quality is usually hassle free and will be more durable. When you're out on the trail - i would trust Rigid to light up the trail to get me to camp or home.

I just bought a Auxbeam 44 inch 420watt light bar. I will be doing a video for KZbin. I had to order from China but for around 350 they claim 42,000 lumens. I hope so because I saved to get this bar and it's my first light bar purchase. I am doing a KZbin series , building a 95 Honda Passport/ Isuzu Rodeo. I work in a fabrication shop so we are building bumpers, rock sliders, roof rack. Thanks for the Review. I agree you get what you pay for. I have been using the Aux beams on some project golf carts & they work Awesome. But the golf carts don’t see any serious abuse so Auxbeams work great. If I was gonna mount them to a Jeep or ATV or serious off road vehicle, then Hell yes the Rigid would be on my Radar. Do you worry about potential theft of the high end lights?

so I guess the Auxbeam lights up a bigger area but the rigid light is further but less area lit up ? I think I would prefer the bigger lit up area if your trailing you need more light in your area than way up ahead- although if you can see further you can pick the best line for the next obstacle

have multiple sets of rigids cube lights and i love them worth every penny. also have 50" radiance light bar. throws a lot of light but only 6-8' wide a 100 yds out but also worth the money. 1-21-17 AB in iowa. o8 jeep rubicon.

Good review and comparison. I dont do enough night wheeling to really justify either of them and am for sure not going to hang lights all over my Jeep just because someone else thinks it looks cool. I I ever do see a need for more lights i would probably go with Rigid just because of the reputation for great products.

I've had the Rigid 20221 Dually's on my Triumph Tiger 800XC for about 2 years and over 20k miles and they are holding up extremely well. Solid piece of kit for an ADV motorcycle and I'd recommend the brand to anyone.

I couldn't tell if the Rigid Industries were the model that has back lighting... I just ordered 4 of the Rig Ind along with 4 Fox Resies shocks from my local 4x4 shop, "OFF ROAD DIRECT", Bakersfield CA. That was a solid comparison of the two lights. I'm glad I went with the Rigid's. Four of those bad boys staggered across the front bumper of my 2010 Chevy Silverado, 2500HD, LTZ ,Z71 truck are gonna be SICK. I'll be testing them out this coming weekend out in the Pismo dunes in Grover City, Cal.

I think i would go budget and get the aux beams. I you can buy 4 sets of aux beams for the same money it may be worth having mire lights. Having deer spotters, rock lights, back up lights, etc

2 years ago I put 4 Auxbeam hyper spots, and 1 10 inch spot/flood light bar on, also from Auxbeam. I dont have an yellowing but I have 2 hyper spots that have water in them, they happen to be the same pair. Im going to buy some rigids now.

rigid industries has some great customer service also. the brackets that came with my lights were cast metal and began to crack. I asked them if I could buy some stamped steel ones like the ones in the video and they just shipped them to me free of charge. then I got a short in the connector of the harness, sent out another email and they shipped me another whole harness. lights are expensive but they take care of you without hassle. lights work and look fantastic too.

First, I will say I don’t own either of these, or any at the moment. I’m doing research on what to buy, hence why I’m here. But what I noticed in the last part of that test at the park is that the Auxbeam and Rigid are not all that different. Yes, the Rigid is brighter, but the Auxbeam wasn’t being held up as high on the trees ahead either, and the few seconds that it was you could see it was just fine for use at that distance. More of the Auxbeam’s light was on the ground than on the trees. If both lights had been mounted stationary like with the garage door test I think most people would have chosen the Auxbeam as the winner. It would have had plenty enough light and more of a spread. What good is intensity on one spot if it’s too narrow overall? I think I’ll be satisfied with the Auxbeam for light throw and be saving a lot of money to boot. As for the powdercoat finish, they’ll be mounted behind the grill so it won’t matter. As for the condensation, I’ll seal them before install.

Big problem with this comparison (as from the links provided): Apples and oranges. Aux - Beam Angle: 30 degree(spot beam pattern)RI - Hyperspot 5 degree ultra-narrow The RI "Floods" are 20° Pattern, RI "Spots" are 10° Pattern and the RI "HYPER Spots" are 5° Pattern.

Hey I run Rigids D2 on my Argo 8x8 and I will tell you the huge difference in comparison to Hyde lights is literally night and day. I have run a lot of different off road lights like Hella etc. and the Rigids are the best. I have driven over trees to make a trail in some pretty remote and nasty swamps and it doesn't effect them at all. Now the brackets are another story. All I have had to do is twist them semi straight again and Im good to go. I have dug bark out of the screws before. No problems at all. Hey I believe in pay a little more and do it right the first time. OR be a cheap ass and pay for it twice when your so called "bargin lights" get condensation and fade and crack etc. And then you have to waste your valuable time dickering with the cheese ball manufacturer from China to get them replaced. Mean while Im STILL enjoying my Rigids with no down time....:) BUY AMERICAN! Enough said....:)

Yeah and I'll go thru any swamp and over any type of terrain is WHY I bought an Argo. I got tired of not being able to get back into areas that are flooded in the winter. Yeah thats what I want to do is wear waders to get back to several stand locations in the winter and deal with hypothermia while I'm sitting on my stand. And I have had Polaris, Kawasaki, Honda all of the various "American" made ATV's...lol OR the "Canadian made Can Am OR is it Mexico? lol Polaris is "made in the USA" In actuality like Harley not everything is made completely in the US. Because he doesn't have time to unstick his machine every 30 minutes or so. IF you were some avid off roader and had a ton of vids up on what you have done. I'd be like awesome man. I have Rigid on my Jeep, Despite their insane cost. I treated myself with some extra cash I had at the time. I have a 30 inch combo unit on the hood. I have 2 D2XL 1 on each front pillars and 2 D2 defused on the rear. I used to snow plow with the jeep and they all worked great. Not sure I would do it again though. Their pricing is crazy high. With what i mention above your looking at around $1700+ bucks in lights without shipping. They do stand by their product after a few years 1 D2 died and the 30 inch bar had water in it. The replaced both, or rebuilt both. You must send the light to them and wait until they get to it. Don't think they just replace it once they receive it back. They supposedly take it apart and repair it if possible.

I know alot of people in the offroad community here that dont always like to pay top dollar for high end performance. The Auxbeams seem like they do a good job for the price they are listed at.

I do mostly slow trail runs, so I personally wouldn't mind having the wider beam. Yes, not as bright but I don't like having to point the truck in any specific direction to see. Most of the time I'm only looking 50-100 feet in front of me on the trail. So, in this case the Auxbeam would be the better choice for me.

This is pretty much how I would have expected the review to go. You get what you pay for. When I was shopping for lights for my JK, I ended up getting Vision X Light Cannons. They are also excellent lights and I preferred the round housing which maintains a more classic Jeep look. What's cool about the Light Cannons is that you can buy covers to change the beam pattern and the color. Very versatile. But like Rigid, they ain't cheap.

No surprise. The Rigid is the cats ass when it comes to lights. Auxbeam is just a low cost entry level light. Nothing wrong with having a cheap alternative available for the people that can't afford rigid, but I think I'd rather just spend the extra coin myself. Thanks for doing this review.
