Once you know that it makes the scenes with Barty torturing the spider in front of Neville and then comforting him so much more awful. 😡 Barty is the reason Neville lives with his grandmother

Don’t be too hard on Ron. His greatest weakness is his insecurity & he has good reasons to be insecure. He comes from a poor family & all of his possessions are hand-me-downs from his brothers. He’s the youngest of 6 boys & all of his older brothers are successful & popular & well regarded. The oldest, Bill, was Head Boy at Hogwarts & now has a glamorous job as a curse breaker for Gringotts Bank. Charlie was the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain & now works with dragons. Percy was a Prefect & Head Boy at school & works for the Minister of Magic. Fred & George are witty, creative & hugely popular at school. Then there’s Ginny, the youngest child & much longed for, desperately wanted daughter. Ron knows the only reason he was born was because his parents were trying for a girl. Plus his own mother doesn’t know his likes & dislikes. She always knits him a maroon sweater for Christmas & he hates the color maroon. She fixes him corn beef sandwiches whenever he has to have a packed lunch & he can’t stand corn beef. Then to top it all off his two best friends are Hermione, the smartest student at school, & Harry, arguably the most famous wizard in the magical world. So he has always felt overshadowed & pushed aside. He’s tired of being the Baby Brother & sidekick. He’s wanting to shine & find his own glory & Harry’s name coming out of the Goblet of Fire just pushed him (temporarily) over the edge. I’m enjoying your reactions very much & the switch to Wizarding robes at the beginning was slick!

If I remember correctly from the books, Ron and Harry talked about entering the tournament and Harry was really against it and said he wouldn't. So when his name came out, it seemed like he found a way to do it and betrayed Ron.

As someone who was sorted into Hufflepuff on The Wizarding World website, Cedric Diggory's death hit hard. Especially seeing Amos run onto the quidditch pitch and hearing him shout "That's my son!! That's my boy!!" Also, they got the movie appearance of Voldemort almost identical to the book. There is one missing detail: in the book, Voldemort is described as having blood red eyes with a slit-like pupil. Another fact, the creature that the imposter Mad-Eye Moody was demonstrating The 3 Unforgivable Curses on was an arachnid called a whip scorpion.

I'm not sure if anyone said this but part of the reason the crutiotis curse (the torturing one. I'm not sure I spelled that right) bothered Nevil so much is because one of Voldemort's people used it on his parents before they were killed. It's not something they go over in detail in the movies and gets overlooked sometimes.

The books go into a lot further detail as to why the tournament was even being held in the first place (it was part of Voldemorts plan) but essentially it hasn’t taken place in decades due to the fact that yes, it’s quite dangerous and some former contestants died from it

Also in the books there were suppose to be creatures in the maze also but in interviews they said they felt it would go too dark doing that so they just left it as people getting possessed. Also, the guy who plays Voldemort is Liam Neeson. I found that interesting when I first heard it.

The flirtation between Harry and Cho goes back to book #3 - she is one year ahead of Harry. She is also the Seeker on the Ravenclaw Quiddich team with Cedric. During their first match up Cho literally chases Harry to learn his strategy, but she then shows her own prowess and Ravenclaw wins. In book #4 she is quickly asked to the Ball by Cedric because they are already friends through Quiddich and in close proximity because of their house.

I can tell you guys are getting into this series since you're actively cosplaying for it. A few things. The "hostages" in the lake were never in any real danger. Dumbledore placed them in an enchanted stasis so that they wouldn't drown or freeze (that task took place in February). Had Harry not taken the situation a little too seriously and insisted on rescuing everyone, the Merpeople would have brought them back up when the time expired. Harry did tell everyone Lucius Malfoy was a Death Eater. He named everyone he saw in the cemetery that night. But the Ministry of Magic refused to believe that Voldemort had returned. Dumbledore believed him, but few not closely aligned with Dumbledore believed it.

@@Dai.Natreacts Yeah, there was a LOT that got left out at the end there. There was an explanation of what happened when Harry and Voldemort's wands connected, Dumbledore revealing Snape & Sirius to each other and telling them they now had to get along or at least in the short term he would accept "no open displays of hostility". One big subplot that got left out of the whole movie was the Weasley Twins trying to fund their ambition of starting a joke shop. This ended with Harry giving them the prize money for the Trip Wizard Tournament. He didn't need it, since his parents left him a fortune, but he did feel humor was going to be needed in the coming days. And all that still barely scratches the surface. It's frustrating for me as a fan of the books when I see new fans approach from the movies. Don't get me wrong, the movies are good, but so much got left out. I highly recommend that the two of you check out the books some day.

I guess they thought it was funnier to keep making Ron look like a doofus, but in the books Harry & Ron at least cut all the lace off of Ron's formalwear. It doesn't miraculously make it look great, but it at least makes it look better.

The reason Ron is jealous in this film is because thats essentially his character a bit. You get more into it as the series progresses, but Ron feels the least important not only in his family but amongst his friens group. So he's overshadowed by Harry being the chosen one, Hermione being the smartest and he feels he brings nothing. So Harry again being centered in the tournament fueled his insecurities as well as Hermione being asked out by not only one of the mot popular boys currently but also hes Quidditch hero. Lets also add in that Ron always gets the hand me downs in his family. This adds to him being looked down on and his looking down on himself.

I know you're either close to or already finished the series already, but here we go anyways: The director for this movie (Mike Newell) had never read or shown an interest in the Harry Potter books or movies, but took up the job because it was a large franchise and directing one of the movies would be good for his career. He took the opportunity to make a competition out of how dark he could make the movie, trying as hard as he could to make it darker than Prisoner. It's fine that it went darker, but you could tell from interviews with him that he didn't care about making it darker to fit with subject matter, but rather because he didn't want to be outshone by the previous director when it came to how dark the movie was. This would also set the trend for the movies becoming darker and darker, not just thematically like the books, but visually and stylistically. He also really didn't respect much of the story. He cut out many very important and integral characters, gave some of their story roles to other people, and as a consequence had to remove several subplots that were very important. Unfortunately this meant that in later movies the later directors had to find a way to reintroduce some of those missing concepts in where they didn't belong in order to allow the story to make sense. Sometimes the staff of the movie had to effectively force him to change direction, the Dragon scene for example, in the books the dragon challenge is used to showcase Harry's skill on a broom and is all done in sight of the audience, there was no chase, but Newell wanted an action sequence, so he had the screenwriter design a scene for it, originally Newell even wanted the dragon to go and burn down the forbidden forest, but because that's not even remotely in the books and is an important location for later, there was heavy pushback and that didn't happen. While romance took a bit more of a focus in the book than prior books, it still was a side plot, whereas the movie put a lot of focus on it and resulted in not enough screen time to fit more interesting plots. In the books Harry doesn't see who casts the dark mark at the world cup, and doesn't see Barty Crouch Jr. until the Pensive memory scene, in the movie that entire mystery doesn't even exist. The Beaubaton's and Durmstrang are not all female and all male schools respectively in the books, this is a rather baffling change that honestly didn't serve much purpose. I could continue. As a movie on it's own, it's a good movie, even a great movie. In terms of it's adherence to the books it's one of the weakest in the series, for this reason it's one of my least favorite of the movies, despite being my second favorite of the books

Ron's inferiority complex really rears it's ugly head in this one but at least it didn't last long. The situation with Hermione is Ron suddenly starting to realize that one of his best friends really is a girl but not understanding that he's jealous. The kids in the lake were under a spell. They were never in any real danger. The contestants were just supposed to think they were. Harry DID tell them about Lucius and the other Death Eaters being there. They just didn't include it in the movie.

I've seen this movie more times than I can count and even if I just have it on in the background, I can't make it through Cedric's dad's breakdown at the end without tearing up. Props to the actor. I'm sure others have mentioned it, but in the book, Harry actually gave away his prize money for winning the Triwizard Tournament. He gave it to Fred and George so they could open a joke shop upon finishing school. He also attached the condition that they gift Ron a new set of dress robes haha. Oh and I love the costumes! It's so nice to see you guys in the spirit of things.

Amos Diggory crying is the best acting in this whole series. I still get chills and tear up at "Thats my son! That's my boy!" And his sobs afterwards 😭 loved this reaction, especially the costumes!!! 🙌

The Second Task of the tournament was for each champion to recover a “treasure” that had been taken from them. The “treasure” was a person that they love. The purpose of the Yule Ball was to find out who each champion loved enough to risk their own lives to save. What better way to do that than have a dance & see who each champion invited. Remember that McGonnagal said the Yule Ball had been a tradition of the Triwizard Tournament from the very beginning. That’s because the Second Task has always been to rescue a loved one So Cedric’s treasure was Cho Chang, who he escorted to the Yule Ball. Same for Victor Krum & Hermione. Harry invited Parvati Patil but spend most of the ball with his friend Ron. It’s never revealed how the Tournament organizers found out that Fleur treasured her little sister the most but in the movie the little girl is seen when the students from Beauxbatons enter the Great Hall. She’s turning flips & cartwheels then when the students reach the high table she goes to stand beside Fleur.

Dumbledore is always calm in books, but in movies he gets angry and frustrated. i.e Dumbledore asked harry calmy is a running gag in fandom,because of the wrong portrayel of Dumbledore

People talk about this all the time like it’s something. Honestly, I’m pretty sure it was just Jason Isaacs improvising, but not being versed enough in the Potter universe at such an early stage to realize that such a move was completely out of character for Lucius Malfoy in that particular context. The man would never risk his life, liberty, and position in society by committing murder right outside of Dumbledore’s office.

Alot of people dont know this but.... ACCIO = its a spell that lets u basically summon something towards that person. (so when Harry during the dragon match said "ACCIO FIREBOLT", he was summoning his Broom cause the Firebolt is the brand/name of the broom.

Ron's Mama was foul for those dress robes. Surely the oldest boys had some better ones he could have borrowed.
