i just re-listened to warren, and as someone said, he shows the warmest tone. i also listened to thomas allen for the first time singing this area, and his voice is very clear and intonation very french. try him and i'd love to hear people's comments.

He shouldn't actually be singing this. This is the aria for the baritone in an opera where the baritone isn't the top low voice male singer - the bass Mephistopheles is the main low male voice character. This is an aria for the young up-coming baritone who isn't ready for Rigoletto yet. Merrill at this time was probably the best baritone in the world . He shouldn't be piggy. Let someone else get a chance to sing.

Patrick. I guess you don't understand that if you are Robert Merrill, you can sing whatever you want to and people will pay to hear it. You should really listen to the wisdom of Jessye Norman who famously said "pigeon holes are only comfortable for pigeons".
