Guys, Avantasia is a project to celebrate music and the hability to mix great lyrics with spetacular arrangements. Who cares if this song is metal or not? Most Avantasia´s success is because the musicians travel from melodic to progressive, from hard rock to symphonic and other styles with such talent that the final product should be considered a masterpiece. A band NEVER stays the same by years. And yes, this song is brillant.
@sk2640911 жыл бұрын
I don't care if it is pop or not. It is still a good song no matter the genre. Talent shines through. And remember, Tobias tells stories with his Avantasia albums. This song just sets the stage for something else. Toby, great song, keep doing what your doing. And please bring Avantasia to the United States!
@claytonlande825811 жыл бұрын
Been a metal fan since late 70's and have to admit Tobias and his creation Avantasia is by far the best power metal music and group of musicians and singers I have ever heard. How they can top the Flying Opera dvd show I will never know as even after playing and watching it over 100 times I still cannot get enough and wish that Avantasia will makes its way to the USA in the future, although we unfortunately do not have the fan base that most European countries have. Rock on!!!

This isn't pop, I'd call it rock. Btw, have you heard Minniva's cover version of this song, I think it's very good. *AVANTASIA - Sleepwalking (The Mystery of Time) (Cover by Minniva)*

While Sleepwalking probably leans more towards rock/pop than metal, it still embodies one of the main things that makes Avantasia one of the best power metal/prog rock bands around - passion and emotion. This and most of their songs is just oozing it, and how they're able to make *you*, the listener feel it - that's what makes them a great band.

"And I don't feel gravity anymore." This line is absolutely brilliant; it perfectly captures a lightheartedness, an unshakable joy that can only be described by those ensconced in love. At the same time, it subtly alludes to the selfsame sense of helplessness that comes with the territory; the narrator is too happy for his own good. The inability to stay grounded causes the narrator to lose his footing. Another spectacular album by Avantasia. Thanks for releasing this, Tobias!

necroplastful how could you not mention Savage Poetry, or Theater of Salvation? Vain Glory Opera?
@jakobfel29 жыл бұрын
Roldi Rammlied I prefer Avantasia for two reasons: 1) The multiple vocalists; I am a self-taught vocalist and it's really awesome to hear so many styles in one project like this. 2) It's a lot more "epic" and orchestral. Grander scale, more progressive/orchestral in terms of musical structure.. every Avantasia album is like a modern-day symphony, really. I love both bands though. Edguy, at least nowadays, tends to be better to listen to if you're in a bad mood and want some humor (though I like how Space Police was mostly serious). Avantasia's better for that epic feel.
@jakobfel29 жыл бұрын
necroplastful Ehh, it's all a matter of opinion. They're more goofy and radio-friendly, there's no denying that, but they still have some excellent tracks. Stuff like Ministry of Saints, Nine Lives, Dragonfly, Thorn Without a Rose, Speedhoven, Robin Hood, Pandora's Box, The Arcane Guild, Behind the Gates to Midnight World, etc. I do prefer their older stuff, mostly, but all of their material is pretty good. Really loved Space Police too.

Agreed. It's not even like Avantasia hasn't had ballads in their albums before. The soft moments just further emphasize the typical rougher sounds of metal. The relative dissonance gives each song this wondrous balance that mainly comes with experiencing the whole album from start to finish. In terms of the Mystery of Time, we've seen a couple trees. Not the whole forest.

It's marketable. Not necessarily for money reasons, but to catch the attention of all of those people who would never give Avantasia a chance because it's called a 'metal opera'.
