അവതാറിൻ്റെ രാഷ്ട്രീയം ചർച്ച ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ഈ സിനിമ അമേരിക്കയുടെ ഇറാക്ക് അധിനിവേശത്തോട് വ്യക്തമായ സാമ്യം പുലർത്തുന്നു എന്ന് കാണാം. അവതാറിന് മികച്ച ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള ഓസ്കാർ പുരസ്കാരം നേടാൻ കഴിയാഞ്ഞതും ഇതേ സാമ്യം കൊണ്ടാണ്. അമേരിക്കയെ മറ്റുള്ളവർക്കു മുന്നിൽ ഇകഴ്ത്തി എന്ന പേരിൽ ഈ സിനിമയെ തഴഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് ആ വർഷത്തെ ഓസ്കാർ അവാർഡ് കൊടുത്തത് hurt locker എന്ന അമേരിക്കൻ ആർമി പടത്തിനാണ്. ആ സിനിമയിൽ ഇറാക്കിൽ അമേരിക്കൻ ആർമി നടത്തുന്ന ആക്രമണത്തെ വെള്ളപൂശുകയും അവരെ വീര നായകർ ആക്കുകയും അധിനിവേശത്തെ ന്യായീരിക്കുന്ന പ്രോപ്പാഗണ്ട കൃത്യമായി കാണിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. മികച്ച ഒരു സിനിമ തന്നെ ആണ് ഇതും, പക്ഷേ അവതാർനെ വെട്ടി ഓസ്കാർ അടിക്കാൻ മാത്രം ഉണ്ടോ എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചാൽ, രണ്ടു സിനിമകളുടെയും രാഷ്ട്രീയം ചർച്ച ചെയ്യേണ്ടി വരും!!!

ഈ വിയറ്റ്നാം കോളനിയുമായിട്ട് ബന്ധം എന്നൊന്നും പറയണ്ട, അതിനേക്കാൾ avatarനോട്‌ സാമ്യമുള്ള കഥയാണ് the last samurai എന്ന സിനിമയ്ക്ക് (അത് 2003ൽ ഇറങ്ങിയ സിനിമയാണ്‌ വിയറ്റ്നാം കോളനി 1992ലും എന്ന് പറയാൻ വരട്ടെ ) Last samurai ഒന്നര നൂറ്റാണ്ട് മുൻപ് നടന്ന ഒരു യഥാർത്ഥ സംഭവത്തെ ആസ്പദമാക്കിയാണ്. അപ്പോൾ ഇവിടെ ആരാണ് ആദ്യം ഈ ആശയം മുന്നോട്ട് വച്ചത്? The thing is, ഇത് കലാകാലങ്ങളായി ഇവിടെ സ്ഥിരം സംഭവിക്കുന്നതാ.... ഒരാളിനെയോ ഒരു വിഭാഗത്തെയോ ഒതുക്കാൻ പുറത്ത് നിന്ന് ആളെകൊണ്ട് വരുന്നതും അപ്പുറത്തെ സൈഡിലാണ് ന്യായം എന്ന് അറിയുമ്പോൾ മനഃസാക്ഷി കൊണ്ട് മറുപുറം ചാടുന്നതും കാലാകാലങ്ങളായി ഈ ലോകത്ത് നടക്കുന്ന സംഭവമാണെന് ചരിത്രം പരിശോധിച്ചാൽ മനസ്സിലാകും.
