Don't shrink the 3rd one down. Either release it into theaters with intermissions or send it straight to streaming. This is an epic story that can't be shrunk down.

Damn this comment section seems judgey, unless everyone is sharing their opinion in a positive way, otherwise it's a bit bonkers. This conversation is phenomenal, the way they communicate and explain things, break them down, evaluate, reflect and dissect shows serious gifting and power. I say power because everything their saying really is powerful and the film itself remains to be something that still brings me to tears just by thinking about it! Crazy excited for the coming films and super pumped and inspired by this conversation🔥🔥🔥

To me the mid section of the film felt a bit clunky: the kids learn to ride the Ilu, then it cuts to Jake trying to ride a Skimwing, then it cuts to Quarritch trying to ride a Banche, then it cuts to Jake mastering the Skimwing, then it cuts to Quarritch flying the Banche - yeah, it kinda didn't flow as well as it should. Also, the first time watching it, it felt like Neteyam's death didn't hit me as hard as it should have. I understood Neytiris outrage but I didn't have an emotional connection. From a storytelling point, I feel like there was a scene missing that showed us some intimate interaction between mother and son to flesh out their relationship.
@tronam

To me the middle section is one of my favorite aspects of the film and I'd take more if I could. Slowing down and just being immersed in that world not only allows us to feel more connected to it, but introduces important themes and character development that pays off later in really critical ways. The last thing I want is to be on yet another relentless plot treadmill that drives so many modern blockbusters these days. Stretches of slowness make the ramped up action set-pieces hit that much harder.
@WreckingWood
@WreckingWood Жыл бұрын
Film 2 dealt with Jake being the fraternal figure, film 3 should be about Neytiri's maternal side as well with dealing with change. Her adjustment to the water tribe being more to the forefront, dealing with grief with losing a son, and reconciling with her new adopted human son.

There can be a Season 3 of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Warner Bros. was trying to make it via a mini-series when the main Terminator rights changed ownership, but was rejected by those new owners for the permission to do it. James Cameron is the owner of those main rights now and Warner can do it if James Cameron would allow it. Everyone that was involved with it has expressed interest and eagerness to continue that story.

@@villagenounours I've followed news of it very closely for over a decade. I can't think of any articles or things like that because it was all little asides in video interviews and small things. I can link you to Brian Austin Green and Thomas Dekker talking about it. But to summarize the situation: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was mainly created to help cross-promote Terminator Salvation (tackling TV and movie-theater for Terminator). The Halcyon Company (formerly known as C3) owned the Terminator rights at this time, having made Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines and now Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Terminator Salvation. They ran into a problem though: they had too many producers to pay out (too many fingers in the pie) and they borrowed money from a hedgefund company (Pacificor) in order to fund these Terminator ventures. So The Halcyon Company filed for bankruptcy shortly after the release of Terminator Salvation. Pacificor stepped in and took the Terminator rights as collateral. Pacificor then auctioned the Terminator rights off. The big movie studios were in a bidding war for those rights. Megan Ellison (Annapurna Pictures) bought the rights and then gifted the rights to her brother, David Ellison (Skydance) whom then made Terminator: Genisys and Terminator: Dark Fate. Warner Bros. still owned The Sarah Connor Chronicles-specific rights but needed the main Terminator rights (permission) to make anything more of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The producers of TSCC at Warner Bros. was planning to make a three/four movie TSCC mini-series that would go direct to video to act as a final wrap up (basically a mini-Season 3). They were rejected by Annapurna (Megan Ellison) to continue TSCC. So that was it. The producers really tried to get something going, but simply didn't have permission by the new main-Terminator rights-holders/owners. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWmsqJiGjpmikJI

@@villagenounours I read that article. At the time, Josh Friedman was working for James Cameron in helping write a new Terminator (Dark Fate) trilogy (Josh was supposed to write the follow-up to Dark Fate). Josh Friedman even released his TSCC outline/notes on Twitter because since there would only be Skydance Terminator films for the foreseeable future, any chance of TSCC returning seemed pretty much dead. But then Dark Fate failed and the planned trilogy was canceled. James Cameron regained ownership of Terminator by default around 2018. Cameron worked with Skydance in making more Terminator films and seems to have a pretty good relationship with them. So despite Skydance losing the main Terminator rights to James Cameron, they may still work together on future Terminator projects. I wonder if James Cameron is even aware that Warner Bros. wanted to make more TSCC. Because apparently him and Josh never talked about it (according to this video), which is so odd. You'd think Josh Friedman and James Cameron would at least bond over the fact that they both had sci-fi shows canceled after two seasons on FOX, both series (Dark Angel and TSCC) being canceled so the season budget could go to a Joss Whedon show (Firefly and Dollhouse).

Act 1 was far too rushed, in my opinion, and High Ground would have made for a better Movie #2, it could have climaxed with the fam leaving for the Metkayina and then we'd have had our setup for Movie #3, the Way of Water. Already Way of Water had to be split into two parts and I will feel in limbo about the movie until I see #3. Yes, I loved it, but I can't know exactly where I stand on it until I get more context.
@Dosnmeda
@Dosnmeda Жыл бұрын
Nah, I disagree. The High Ground might have been great if released in 2011 - when Avatar was still fresh on everybody's mind. But Cameron had to reintroduce the audience to Pandora, and its wonders, after a 13 year gap. The Way of Water was the best way to do it.

In a recent Q&A Cameron talked about some of the challenges they faced with act 1. Apparently there was originally going to be some kind of huge space battle, but it was ultimately cut and much of that possibly postponed for a later time. The 13 year gap certainly didn’t help things in kickstarting this story back up again. I do agree that Act 1 does feel a bit rushed, but after several viewings I’ve come to accept it for what it is: an introduction.
@charoleawood

@@tronam Yes, that content was made into a series of comics called "Avatar High Ground", you can see the comics for yourself in a series of videos in the live tab of a channel called "Geek Theory" here on youtube. I agree with your assessment that Avatar 1 will be rendered more of a prequel to a four part series rather than the first movie of a five part series, that's one of the reasons I lament the rushed nature of the beginning of Way of Water. I still prefer Avatar 1, the Collector's Cut version specifically. Way of Water is a great movie, but it isn't nearly so self contained as Avatar 1, and that hurts it for me. I hope that Way of Water gets as comprehensive a physical release with plenty of deleted scenes as the Collector's Cut of Avatar 1.
@lukelee3

Great storyteller but the story needs to be more original and less predictable. The cgi 3D was the best cinema experience ever.
@tronam
@tronam Жыл бұрын
In some ways The Way of Water is kind of like a deconstruction of the first film and when the entire series is finally complete I think we’ll end up looking back at Avatar (2009) as more of a prequel than chapter 1. That being said, I don’t get this obsession with unpredictability, especially in big blockbusters intended for a broad global audience. Top Gun: Maverick was one of my favorite movies last year and I could predict every story beat from a mile away. There isn’t an original idea in any of it, but how much does that even matter? Stories aren’t written in a vacuum. They’re all derivative of what came before and the older you get, the more you notice the same repeated rhythms and patterns. It’s actually that familiarity that elicits the strongest emotional response from audiences because relatable inevitability hits harder than surprises out of left field. You only get goosebumps from musical chord progressions you’ve heard before because they trigger the same emotional muscles as nostalgia. But hey, if you want an unpredictable blockbuster, just watch Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Every time it subverted my expectations it took me out of the film, so I don’t really think the tradeoff was worth it in the end.
