The movies most of the time also don't understand how OP even todays weapons are. Flying Xenos? Radar guided proximity airbursts should handle that. Big dinos attacking on ground? I don't think humans were necessarily the good guys, but the truth is, Na'vi are the bad guys and Jake is the main antagonist (betrayed his people just for the alien girl). I mean, humans wanted those resources because they could not stop destroying Earth, but at least they offered the blues technology, medicine and other goodies in exchange for the resource. They even tried to simply convince them to go away, even went as far as making Na'vi avatars especially for that mission. But Na'vi just fucking attacked and killed everybody. The morale I got from this movie is: 1) Don't pollute Earth 2) You cannot make a deal with someone who doesn't understand the concept of cooperation.

After watching this video, I remembered that a guy who thought of this theory and shared it in another KZbin video and I want to share it, also that for me this is cannon and if you see it the same way, good for you "I saw Avatar again in its rerun a couple of days ago and I remembered this HFY; I observed in the movie that Pandora's Moon is controlled by a sapient being that essentially controls everything on said planet, and it's not just about the fauna, but it can literally control the mind of the Na'vi through the neural links that they do with the tree of souls. The Na'vi believe that the tree of souls connects them with their god (Eywa), because said being made them believe such a thing, making the native population submit to it without even questioning the will of said god or even questioning its origin; It is so much so, that after the first contacts with humans, the Na'vi were very friendly with the "beings of the sky" (humans), but once they made their link with the Tree of souls, the Na'vi became convinced that humans were demons. This implies that Eywa told the Na'vi that humans were a threat and should be eradicated without question. Everything begins to make more sense when Jake meets Neytiri, because when she was going to end Jake's life, the spirit of the forest prevents her from killing him. But why would Eywa avoid killing a human? Simple, Eywa knew that he was a Warrior and could use it to know the weaknesses of his enemies. At first, Jake was more than willing to take down the Na'vi, but once he began to make his neural contact with the creatures and the forest, Eywa entered his brain through the neural link, changing him and essentially controlling him. at will and using it for their own purposes." The truth is well structured, and from my perspective I think that the humans were doing them a favor, but what does it matter they will not change in 1000 years and this only reaffirms one clear thing *the stars will belong to us*

This is a year late by damn I thought of the same thing, except I also thought of something else that being that there’s a good chance that Eywa is a form of large hive mind, like what was stated above but I also think that there’s a chance that it’s a apex predator or the most perfect parasite in existence. I mean the thing is and something that seems to be forgotten the fact that Eywa sends actual plagues to them to keep them in line. It is actually able to whip up a bio weapon, and due to how avatars have human genes in them, it means there’s a good chance that Eywa is cooking up a plague to at least make the humans super ill at the middle of the road kill them. The general rule I’d apply is : if humans messed up, the xenos are to be defended, especially if it allows for further mutually beneficial relationships (I don’t count blue booty as a beneficial relationship though). The 30k rule is close to that, with the caveat that you defend humans first and only then attempt to find out wether they messed up and then punish the guilty and extend an offering of peace. The 40k rule (best rule) is : if xeno detected, kill on sight, capture only if strategic informations can be extracted.

i felt the exact same way, the movie was very appealing visually but at several points, i felt that the writer intentionally made the humans as dumb as possible for one thing, the human ships could'nt track and shoot down those flying pterodactyls??? the animals attacking the mechs had bullet resistent hides? But what adds to it is also the infrastructure necessary to render these natural resources useful. And those assets tend to be above ground. As such, orbital annihilation is note a perfect solution. Plus it is highly inaccurate, where several kilometers of diversion from target still is considered a bullseye. If you want to make sure the target gets eliminated you need boots on the ground. Orbital fire support is a complement to that. Nothing more - unless we are talking full-on Exterminatus.

And because neither of those are an issue here, this would be an area bombardment.
