I agree there could be a lot of interesting new lore details to explore and honestly, it might be best for the franchise to do so

@zingy1914 I agree, but I think that would be best as a series of tv shorts, maybe explore the origins of the Avatar universe, explore how the cultures we saw Wan visit began, explore how the four nations evolved once Wan became the first avatar and how he got to the battlefield where we saw him die and begin the avatar cycle. We know very little about the Earth nation in those early years. I'd love to see how the Sun Warriors came about and how the swamp dwellers came to be as well as how the water tribe separated. I just don't think a video game could do justice to these stories, and more traditional media would be better to tell these stories.

I'll wait for gameplay to get excited. I've been fooled before. Honestly I just want them to make a LEGO ATLA and LoK game. The humor of Lego games matches so well with Avatar, and the creativity with puzzles and the abilities and the numerous fan favorite characters, it's almost tailor-made for a Lego game.

i've been thinking about an open-world avatar game for a few months now and i hope that's the direction they're going. kind of like nintendo did it with zelda botw or rather even hogwarts legacy. i think there's potential to realise it without looking like a cheap botw copy. maybe we can even choose our nation by ourself? i'd definitely love it

What would a game of Avatar be like set thousands of years ago? What was the Earth like thousands of years ago? Could the fire nation just be developing bronze? Would the earth kingdom build monuments like the pyramids or Stonehenge? Would the water tribe have migrated to the south? Are any living in the swamp? Would the air nomads have built their complexes or are they still nomads? There's a lot of possibilities.

So, we did get a bit more news from the latest episode of the Avatar Podcast "Braving the Elements" that gave a bit more information regarding this game. Plus a mobile game (already announced), and potentially more games that may come out. Here's the news thing from big ATLA server. (episode should now be available for free to listen to since it was released to subscribers 3 days ago, since they get to listen to the episodes first before everyone else does.) "Avatar: Ice Wars Franchise's first AAA open world action roleplaying game, set to release in 2027/2028. The game will be fully open world with the four nations, including the city of Ba Sing Se as one of the major hubs for the game. Set in the world of Avatar 7000 years ago. The game will have storytelling as its primary focus with a new villain. The players will be playing as the new avatar, with an in-depth character creator. Street fighter game A competitive fighter game is in the works, set to release next year! The game will feature 2D animated graphics and a launch roster of 10 characters, including the main ATLA gang, and a teaser for Jet. Various other games Alongside the two newly announced games, Doug Rosen (head of Paramounts gaming team under supervision by Avatar Studios) has announced several ideas are in the works for the gaming side of Avatar in the coming ~5 years, including ideas for VR and a puzzle game." For those who may not know what open world games are, think of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and other similar games (even though the later is technically not a AAA title), but open world games is a sort of (sub-genre) to RPG and RTPRPG. This honestly looks pretty promising. But I will also be keeping my expectations tempered for now.

Never been a big RPG guy, but ever since Baldur's Gate 3, I'm down for interesting takes on RPGs if it's well executed.

I'd rather the game be set thousands of years in the future to cover Aang and Korra as well as all the other established past avatars (easily resolved with a centuries after Korra avatar finding a way for Ravva to reconnect to the past avatars lost in the Unavatuu battle so you can potentially have set scenes with Aang and Korra in the take over avatar state without convoluted flash forwards). I'd be interested in seeing you play past avatar games. I think Neverwinter Nights is still one of the best RPGs I've played. Other games include the Elder Scrolls franchise, KOTOR 1 and 2, Baldurs Gate 3, Dishonoured, and even Darksiders, though that's more a dungeon crawler.

@uncleirohsteashop oh I totally agree, I just prefer the idea of being able to play as some of our favourite avatars without overly convoluted story reasons for doing so, which a past avatar game would require. My example actually gave me a great idea for a future set game. You're an unknown avatar thousands of years after Korra. You are a fully realised avatar. Harmonic convergence is about 100-150 years away, and your job is to reconnect Ravva to the lost avatars starting with Wan and ending with Aang to fully prepare the avatar, who will have to face Vatuu whether that's you or the next 1 or 2 avatars in the cycle. Reconnecting with Wan could be the tutorial, then skip to some of the lesser known established avatars before we get Korruk (probably spelt his name wrong), Kiyoshi, Roku and finally Aang restoring the lives and experiences Korra lost. A sequel game could even cover the events leading up to harmonic convergence and the final battle of the sequel game being harmonic convergence itself.

If this wasn’t canon to the lore it would be a hard pass from me since the main aspect I enjoy from RPG’s is creating and playing as my own character. Wish it was just an RPG where you get to create a bender of one of the four elements and explore the world rather than being forced into a hero role but hey, if the game is good then it’ll be fun regardless.

I hear your worries and concerns, but with a franchise like this, I feel like we’ll just have to accept the fact that maybe it will be one of those RPG’s where you can’t do the whole create your own character kind of thing. It’s kind of like how it’s similar to where you can’t really pick your nation because whatever avatar you play as has to be ordained into the cycle of how a new avatar works.
