I couldnt tell if the download/copy you watched had translations for the Na'vi, but there was supposed to be subtitles. If your going to watch the second one, make sure you have one with subtitles. Also one thing to mention, the big Ikran, he chose Jake. Like how Eywa chose Jake when he first met Neyteri. We know this because Jake was "Toruk Macto", as it was foreshadowing what happens at the end. As Neyteri tells the story about her great grandfather, how he brought all the clans together during a time of great sorrows. Just like how Jake did. Also, how Neyteri told Jake how he would know if the Ikran chose him, and she said, "He will try to kill you". Just like how the Big Ikran tried to kill Jake, and if you look back, he only tries to "kill/bite" Jake.

I remember how Cameron's efforts gave me like so many that 'feeling' when it released. Kinda like hearing Mozart for the first time, you just wanted to check it out again. It was new and the closest thing to dive into after the Lord of the Rings immersion. I always enjoy Grace's comment even though it's understood in retrospect: "Don't play with that. This movie in 3-D is spectacular. I watched this in 3-D on my brother’s big screen and the tree branches literally are right besides you, the little white floating things in your face, you involuntarily move your head so you can see past them. Really fantastic viewing tech. Far as the story goes, it’s kinda like Dances With Wolves on another planet. Men coming to exploit the wealth the planet has to offer at any cost regardless of the native population’s centuries of becoming in harmony with all living things. Not bad but not wholly original. The Way Of Water is (to me) a rehash. Will Cameron complete A3? Who knows? A2 didn’t do so great box office wise after the first week. We’ll see.

Not sure how you never heard of this movie but it must be where you are. It's one of the top grossing movies worldwide. The sequel only came out a year ago and is amazing as well. The story is very much one of colonization and maybe a bit of what the US government did with the Native American populations when they started settling the west. James Cameron had made so many great movies and people keep counting him out but he tends to prove them wrong. Enjoyed your reaction. Thanks for making it.

I don't get the hate people hate for Avatar. Like, it's become normal to dunk on it, but despite the simple storytelling, the story itself is not bad. I kinda like it, because it shows how an empty person can find meaning in a new way of life. The Na'vi life gave Jake a second chance in more ways than one. People who say that Jake betrayed his own species overlook that the story of Jake is not just about the survival of humanity, but about a man looking for healing and purpose after suffering the death of the closest person to him (the movie didn't dive deeply into Jake's connection to his twin, but even if the two of them went their separate paths in life, twins, especially identical twins, share a really close connection. I wish the movie showed Jake struggling with his grief, just like how the movie didn't show how Neytiri was suffering the loss of her own sister. This could have made both characters feel much deeper and relatable). Aside from characters though, the visual effects bring this movie to life. The motion capture is top notch, and still hold up so well over 10 years later.
@katonnor
@katonnor 9 ай бұрын
"Jake betrayed his own species" is wrong on so many levels. He betrayed the RDA and he wasn't the only human to do so. He joined the Navi who are actually not against humans. They tried to save Grace, they allowed some humans to stay in their planet. They fought to protect their home and had nothing against the humans that were not a threat to them. He may have became a Navi full time and decided to live among them but that's no different from someone choosing a more simple way of life. For example if someone decided to get rid of all their technology and live among nature. If he was going to remain there full time then it was a very practical decision to stay in a body that could walk and breathe safely there

It is not even close, in any respect, to Star Wars..... Like, are you serious? To even suggest such a thing shows an astonishing level of ignorance. Avatar was technologically impressive, the cgi and mocap were definitely a step forward, but Star Wars... Entire companies were created out of that film (ILM, THX and Skywalker Sound to name 3) the entire visual and special effects of that movie had to be either created from scratch or perfected. Nothing has come close to the industry changing, monumental advancement of Star Wars in 1977. Avatar was a leap forward, but by miles, not the light years that was Star Wars. The advancement in 3D tech that was the majority of Avatars "achievement" in film is now a funny little anecdote in the history of film, as the 3D fad has come and gone.

In the extended version of the movie, you learn more about the school that Grace had opened to teach the Na'vi English (I think it was 5 years before Jake and the others had arrived). That is why so many of the Na'vi can speak English. They learned it very quickly... They also quickly learned how greedy and evil most humans that came to Pandora for the Unobtanium can be. Neytiri's sister, Sylwanin, and several other students from Grace's school decided to attack one of the mining sites... and the military forces came to the school (where Sylwanin and the others were trying to seek safety). She and other Na'vi were gunned down in cold blood. Grace said a line in that scene, (something along the lines of) "The Na'vi learned all they needed to know about us that day." Grace's school was then abandoned and she was no longer allowed into the village. So when Jake became accepted by the tribe, he convinced Mo'at (Neytiri's mother) to allow Grace to come back and see the children she had taught. You might notice that the Avatars that Jake, Grace, and Norm "drive" have four fingers and a thumb (like a human)... The Na'vi have only have three fingers (and a thumb). To create the Avatars, they used human DNA mixed with the Na'vi DNA (likely to make it easier for the human mind to connect to the Avatar). The finger difference will become relavant in the next film... Also, this never made it into the final version of the film, but Norm and Trudy had a relationship... and that was also part of the reason that Norm started being friendly to Jake again.

These films get so much criticism but they’re a world to get lost in and with a great message very much aimed at everything bad we’ve done as a species to each other. I feel like I should add some context that isn't in the movies about tsutey here 16:00. Tsutey HATES humans because his one true love was killed by humans, ie Neytiri's big sister Sylwanin. But the movies don't really explore that it was only in some comic books.

Q: What is the point of having a film reaction channel? A: Showing your emotions! Letting the film and the characters make you laugh, cry, get mad, feel love..... We, the audience, are supposed to be emotionally affected by good story telling and film making. Why else do we go see films?

Way of the Water was worth the long wait for most of us, but so glad I won't have to wait 20+ years for your awesome reaction ❤

@christopherazzato7680 I agree...Avatar 3 will be visually stunning! I can't wait to see it for my 28th birthday in 2025! Still annoying they had to change the date due to the writer's strike though...

Not "Special Case", *"Special K"*. Special K is a cereal.. it's also a derogatory way of insulting handicapped people.. becusse the handicapped used to be referred to as "special" but primarily mentally handicapped people.

This is like a recreation of what happened between Western civilization and the Native Americans, the Aborigines of Australia, The Maori of New Zealand and pretty much every clash of tribal people to modern civilization. I think the making of this movie was brilliant. People need to not forget what we have always done when the more advanced meets the less advanced.

And it drives me crazy when people watch these movies or play the new game and go “the humans are always the bad guys.” Well yeah, historically we are.

Remember watching this at the cinema when it came out. The scene where RDA attack Hometree, everyone in the audience had one of two faces: tears, or anger.

Americans probably. Whenever they find some crap on a foreign land that they care about, they send their army and introduce their "democracy" in that area... Apart from the fact that the film is good, even though it has almost nothing but special effects, it is still a good watch. The film is thoroughly American. It shows in all its glory the principles, methods and procedures that Americans use for other "nations"...

One of the things about the Avatar movies is that they remind me to hate the worst parts of our species. We have some noble traits but we can also be horrible, and that side of ourselves should be loathed and constantly fought against. I only wish everyone could see it in a theater. The 3D big screen effect was absolutely enchanting.

34:52 James Cameron wrote the original script for Avatar right after he did Terminator 2. He waited almost 20 years for the technology needed to make the movie to be invented, and invented some of it himself such as digital 3D capture direct to a drive instead of on film. Avatar is one of the movies you really have to see in 3D, because it was FILMED in 3D, not converted, and it is literally the benchmark movie to show what a 3D movie can and should be

It's not that Humans are terrible. Sulley is a human. And Princess's boyfriend isn't a human, yet displays all the negativity of his 'enemy'. It's a different struggle and it's time we saw that.

I mostly laughed watching it. I watched Fern Gully as a kid and it is pretty much beat for beat the same movie. Effects were good though.
