@@bkjeong4302 but the calcium in our bones isn't exactly earth though? right? it's weird, but we can't think too scientifically. it's more the Classical and spiritual aspects of it. In all earth's mythology, humans have formed from clay. "ashes to ashes, dust to dust. *SPOILERS* Even Vatu stated the humans in this universe crawled out of the mud. Hama's voice actress is Tress MacNeille. Also the voice of Dot in Animaniacs, Gertie from Hey Arnold, and Daisy Duck! Which is quite the creepy and yet mind-blowing thought that such an innocent character like Dot is also straight up a BLOODBENDER. Then again, Gertie probably wishes she could bloodbend! When Katara blocks the big attack, Hama is shocked because that’s not a water bending technique. Water bending is about redirecting and turning your opponents energy back on them. What Katara does is an earthbending move! Just another time where they show that when you combine the four elements, combine multiple views, you get something even greater than the sum of its parts. Hama's name comes from the Greek word aima, meaning "blood"! This episode is wonderfully creepy and well written, but another reason it hits so hard for me is how tragic it is. For so long, Katara was the last waterbender of her tribe, who has had to fight and work so hard for the right to continue her tradition. And when she finally meets Hama, and is not alone for a moment, it all turns sour so quick. On top of that, Hama’s imprisonment is a harrowing story. It’s tragic to see both these characters lose their chance at a unique connection, with Katara’s mentorship taking a horrible turn and Hama becoming a prisoner again in the end...really underlines the horror for me. I really do feel for Hama. It's a pretty classic "Person is hurt by someone/some organization and seeks revenge, but targets people who are connected to, but aren't really responsible for, the actions of that person/organization in the first place" plot, which can feel dumb at times, but the way they showed Hama's backstory, her trauma and deteriorating mental state, really sold it. She's in the wrong, but you can still sympathize with her

She has been paying attention to and learning from Tophs techniques and her bending style has grown to show how much further she and Tophs bond has grown at this point!

Katara, and most other water benders, didn't think to try to blood bend. Only the strongest water benders on the evening of the full moon can blood bend. Also, it's not something a bender would think of anymore than a Star Wars jedi would stumble on techniques that use the dark side of the force. Ripping water from flowers and trees works, but it obviously kills the plant. I could see how controlling another body is akin to rape in that you remove a person's ability to control their body, and you do with their body whatever want. Imagine how traumatic that would be to the person being controlled. It's downright evil, and is much more invasive than just beating them up.

The whole idea of having bending is that you're in control of your powers, and how you choose to use them is up to you. whats so horrible about bloodbending is that in anger and absolute rage, a person could use this on someone and very cruelly end their life. I see it as equivalent to rape because its controlling someone else while they are still conscious of what's happening. Its different than just ending someone's life. As a bloodbender you could get someone to end their own life, drown themselves, literally rip themselves apart. Its painful both physically and mentally. We see in southern raiders that the very kind hearted katara was so in rage that she used the technique. If you have the power and lose control who knows what'll happen.

Bloodbending is powerful, yes, but rooting for Katara to use it when she clearly doesn't want to use it since the skill itself can be used for evil purposes (akin to rape in a way, taking over someone's body without their approval) sadly means you haven't fully gripped the idea of how treacherous bloodbending is - even after they litetally made a whole episode on how horrifying it is. It drives you to insanity and though Hama wasn't power-hungry like you said, she was hungry for revenge and for what seems like a valid reason. She took it out of innocent civilians who just grew up as a part of the fire nation - Just like Jet did, but in Hama's case, bloodbending and its intoxication also did its part in having her want more villagers to lock away, and she always used her dark terrible past as an excuse to do so.
@dwnkaomwn39533 жыл бұрын
All due respect, don't let your mind be closed because of Bloodbending. Like Lola said, it's about the person who wields the technique, not the technique itself.
@fynchbird3 жыл бұрын
@@dwnkaomwn3953 I agree with what she said but bloodbending is an incredibly difficult technique to use "for good" when even without the addictiveness of it, it's still controlling someone else's body, mostly without consent. I guess in scenarios when you're not fighting with it - like you're helping someone in a wheelchair walk for the last time because they asked you to - can be considered a "nice" way to use bloodbending, but in context of what's about to come to Team Avatar: A literal war - it's toxic to want Katara to use bloodbending to harm someone else when they know her kind caring nature without prejudice is a thing like we've seen in the Jet episode and in the Painted lady episode.
@thesunisup_3 жыл бұрын
@@fynchbird you enemies do not ask for your consent when attacking you so what’s the difference really?
@dcharith3 жыл бұрын
@@thesunisup_ SPOILER How it differs from her normal powers, in my opinion, is that it simply defies the concept of free will. When an enemy attacks you, you at least have the option to defend yourself, fight back, although you may either be successful or unsuccessful. How can someone defend themselves when someones else forces their own will on you? How can you defend yourself when someone uses your own limbs against your will? That's the difference. Although it can be used with non-evil intentions as well, like Katara used it on Hama to save Aang and Sokka. However we get to see Katara use blood bending in a questionable manner, while on a mission of vendetta on this very same series, so even the kindest and most compassionate persons can be pushed to use a power like this in an evil manner.

It was an interesting episode because we had seen most water benders using defense techniques rather than offensive, using water bending for healing rather than causing real harm to their enemies. Turns out water bending can be as dangerous as earth or fire bending.

The show wanted to turn Hama into the villain of the episode, now imagine if the people she kidnaped were the former prison guards from where she was?
@Ragnar_Aevarsson3 жыл бұрын
But the people she kidnapped are younger than her and the flashbacks showed the guards are generally older or at least the same age. And in this episode she’s anciently old... none of her prisoners were that old.
@marcosnonato3 жыл бұрын
@@Ragnar_Aevarsson I know. What I'm saying is, what if the writers had done it differently? What if it was just old people and we found out they were the guards? Or if they were young and then we found out that they were soldiers of the fire nation who terrorize people? The writers wanted to put her as a villain, so they put her to attack innocents.

@sabotuerelthendo25783 жыл бұрын
Well, taking out air to kill someone is a cool move. It was propably known by Airbending Masters in temples. And i mean elder masters like Gyatso. Propably thats how he killed those firebenders in Southern Air Temple- he just took air from this room, and everyone died due to lack of oxygen...

You ask about airbenders being able to suck the air out of someone... I mean, Monk Gyatso had a pretty high body count against the Fire Nation soldiers. Who knows what techniques one airbender can use to take out so many soldiers at once.
@lea47773 жыл бұрын
Btw you said wouldn't airbenders be able to take the air out of someone's lungs. In the early episodes when aang visited the southern air temple and they showed monk gyatso's body. They show him surrounded by dozens of dead fire nation soldiers. So it's postulated that monk gyatso did exactly that.

Water bending is so much more OP than any other bending its not even funny. Even healing by itself gives water the edge, but couple it with everything else waterbenders can do, and literally no one can stop you.Plus water bending makes everyday life so much easier anyway. There aren’t many ways fire can be useful in non-fighting scenarios unless you’re a chef.

Gotta feel for Hama's plight, though. Imagine watching everyone you've ever known/loved get snatched away, and you with them, only to spend countless years locked inside a cage inside a room with no moisture, no other contact besides the brigands who begrudgingly feed/water you, only the rats to keep you company. Beaten within an inch of your life should you show even an iota of resistance. You can say forgiveness is divine but with that kind of vitriol coursing through your veins let's be honest, we'd all probably do the same thing. I don't blame her one bit.
