This was one the first year I showed Avatar the Last Airbender in the classroom. The students waited for Aang and Katara to finally end up together. Their favorite character was still Sokka though.

@@mfmageiwatchyou act like ATLA is mindless entertainment. Watch the show. It has wonderful life lessons that have value outside of the classroom. There’s also a lot that can be taught inside the world of ATLA: politics, culture, food, astronomy, religion and spirituality, physics; not to mention that ATLA is a masterclass in creative writing for plot, character development, setting, worldbuilding, music, themes (war, genocide, colonialism, Imperialism, grief trauma, just to name a few). It’s no different than having children study the works of Shakespeare or Edgar Alan Poe. You can analyze episodes of Avatar and learn a lot more than you think. Personally I could teach an entire collegiate course on Avatar.
