It is because the name of Caccini is on the musical score of Vavilov; I think he put it to get safe from the Russian police which was forbidding the religious compositions (the communist Russia was an anti-religious dictatorship). And Vavilov died too soon to claim the paternity of his work. But now more and more people are aware that Caccini is for nothing in this piece apart from his name being on the musical score. Sooner or later, this Ave Maria will only be called the Ave Maria of Vavilov,

I can feel when it is played too fast because I have a musical ear, I can feel the music. There is an expressivity which can be put into a musical piece only when it is not played too fast; playing it too fast kills the soul of the musical piece. It is not a question of virtuosity; it is not because you can play the piece fast, that you must play it fast; if you play it too fast, you cannot put into it the expressivity it needs to make its beauty shine.

What's really funny is that the Ave Maria of Caccini has not been written by Caccini, and the Adagio of Albinoni has not been written by Albinoni; these are in fact much more recent compositions, compositions of the 20th century.

The adagio of "Albinoni" is played too fast, it must be played more slowly.

If the conductor had played the adagio of "Albinoni" slower, Inessa Galante could have made a better interpretation, because, with a slower tempo (I have always heard it played on a slower tempo), she could have put more expressivity, and the adagio would have sounded differently, more majestuous, more emotional, like the Ave Maria of Vavilov.

Not necessarily: A singer or a saxophone player must learn to breathe to be able to sustain his interpretation. I think that Inessa galante is able of it, it is just the conductor who gave a tempo too fast. It is not the first time that I complain that a musical piece is played too fast. I have heard an interpretation of the 2nd movement of the 23th concerto of Mozart that Horowitz played too fast, and I complained about it, but his fans hated me for saying it.

If Vavilov had lived a democratic country, may be would never ascribed the names of old baroque composers on his own compositions, but his name instead, and his Ave Maria would always have been the Ave Maria of Vavilov, and never the one of Caccini.
