Not all do. I'm a bass player and I've worked as a studio engineer since 2006. It's really refreshing when a band comes into the studio and just kills it without resorting to a million fixes. I'm not saying he's a bad player; he's pretty good in fact.

Agreed. My mistake; I was interpreting your comment (which is really old, holy crap) as a bit disparaging, partly because the other top comment is more blatantly disparaging. Sorry!

This is a reminder for all of you guys: bass guitar is not an electric guitar. Shredding is not that necessary in bass

How do you isolate these tracks?! Do you use stems?

Seward serves the music. Playing the roots is the function of the bass. Inverting chords or adding any other musical tricks is not his job and the level of ignorance and envy here is hilarious. He has a massive career, unlike all the fools here.

It's a studio recording; of course they'll use studio tricks.

why would u say johnny christ sucks
@SMgoodner12 жыл бұрын
That argument is completely invalid. He adds nothing to the music. A bassist can play different notes under a chord that can create a different feel and implies chord inversion. It adds diversity in a subtle way. He just plays roots. Same as green day and nirvana. Nothing special. Go listen to john myung, dan briggs, arif miradolbaghi or jean baudin if you want a real bassist.

greendays bassist sucks or blinks´s or nirvanas they play root notes and it would sound bad if he adds to much if you know avenged you d know that the two guitars are the leading instruments not because they are guitars but because the many solos and lead parts are enough for the songs if jonny would play some insane shit it would be too over the top at least my oppinion

Jonny is a good bassist. You clearly know nothing about bass, especially in this context; the style of the verses don't need an intricate, elaborate bassline. With bass, a lot of the time, less is more. To be fair, he doesn't do any inversions or anything, but he is still a good bassist. You can't judge skill on how technical he plays, all depends on the band, the style and song. So why compare to the likes of Greenday?

Because all he plays are root notes. He adds NOTHING
