Other good Avenged Sevenfold songs to react to are: Afterlife Beast and the Harlot Danger Line Make sure to do Lyric versions for Afterlife and Beast and the Harlot as the music videos cut out 2 mins of each song. There was also about 2 mins in this song you missed because of the music video.

An excellent starting point for this band. The song is based on a story called Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. A guy named Hunter S. Thompson went into the desert to write an editorial on dune buggy racing and then decided to document a drug trip. There's a film for the story starring Johnny Depp. Hunter S. Thompson died about a year before this album came out from a gunshot wound while he was on the phone with his wife, hence the line "my hand is on the trigger, I'm ready to ignite". If you love this, the next single Beast and the Harlot is outstanding. I recommend a lyric video so you get the whole song.

I think "the pain of being a man" is less the pain of being male and more the pains of mankind. Looking up a bit, it seems to suggest that if you "make a beast of yourself" and turn absent minded, involve yourself in drugs, alcohol or other such sins then the pain of life goes away. That's what I take from it anyway.

I interpret it as by ignoring your conscience and abandoning any sense of morality, you become nothing more than an animal, but you don't have to feel regret or guilt because now your nature is that of a beast.

Hey Abi, another great reaction to one of my favourite bands. To help you with some of your questions. The quoat at the start is from the book/Film 'Fear and loathing in Las Vegas' by Hunter S Thompson which the song and the video is based on. It's about Hunters experience experimenting with some hardcore drugs while on a journalism job in the city. I fell the quoat means when you drop all morals in humanity in favour of excess and sin it makes you see another more darker side of yourself. And with relation to what you have seen in the video with the lizard tounges well that explains why you shouldn't do drugs in Vegas.

Great reaction.. I think to do these guys justice though, you should react to them live.. they are one of the rare bands that sound just as good if not even better live .. If you want a song similar to this I recommend beast and the harlot live at the LBC, really ANYTHING from the LBC. Or if you want an all around great song, Nightmare from download 2011 (I believe m shadows voice was at his prime that year) really heavy I suggest God Hates Us live rock am ring 2011, EPIC performance.
