Because it's about a real book, based off a real story. This movie is as real as it gets. You shouldn't have gone into watching this movie expecting it to be like a fucking call of duty game. It was one of the best movies i've ever seen because it's different, it's not all about action and killing and explosions. It's about life, and what expectations you have going into war, and then leaving the war with a completely different outcome.

A year to late, its tge film 'Jarhead' with Jake Gyllenhaal. It shows the bull shit the boys from desert storm went through. Mist never fired their rifles. Some did. Its why i joined in 2000. 8 years i served, tours of iraq with op telic, op herrick in afghanistan, and op conserve in kenya, as well as other postings. The last scene before they come home is the most poignant. They sit there for an hour, line the shot up and thrn sone shit eating rupert rocks up to watch 'his' air strike. Jake Gyllenhaal spotter goes nuts as tgats their killnand the General just turns and says something like, " fucking recon snipers, always the crazy ones". The spend their whole tour waiting for that shot and then told to stand down so the 3 star can get his jollies! Remember my RSM telling me something similar after being pulled away from Kandahar after decompression and psychiatric evaluation abd being told, due to suspected early signs ofbptsd and battle stress, i would be staying at barracks for tge forseeable.mtraining the sprogs and helping the colour boy get orders for kit done as he was in his fifties and wouldnt use a computer. My RSM simply said "Sargent ,the docs said your heads a bit too fucked at the moment, so youll be assigned to light barrack duties and training. Nothing personal, nit my choice, but the shit rolls down hill. Chin up, we got some new sprogs signing up monday, go make yourself feel better on them c**ts". I lasted just over a year
