This song was written when the band took a break to recover from writers block. The rev (drummer) went to a cabin in the middle of nowhere for several weeks (may have even been months. Idk.) No contact with the outside world. Just him, his thoughts, and his instruments. When the band got back to the studio. He sat in front of the drum set, recorded the entire drum track in one take. Then went to the piano and recorded the whole piano part in one take. Then he explained the song to the rest of the band. the rev will always be king

This song is such a masterpiece. It's gruesome and fucked up on the surface, but it tells the story of two people in love who end up hearting each other and "tearing each other's hearts out," but they keep coming back together. The first two parts of the songs tells the story of one hurting the other. In the song, they only abuse each other once each, but we can assume that this is a cycle between their relationship. During the part where he's pleading with her and she's telling him off, we can assume that maybe they had one big fight where the guy did something that crossed the line. He's pleading for forgiveness and they make up. In that reconciliation, they realized that they love only each other, want to marry one another, and commit to working through their issues. "If it's not enough, try again, and again..." encapsulates this sentiment. Through all the shit, they still love each other so much that they committed to working through the toxicity that they each bring to their relationship, regardless as to what the people around them think. Regardless of it's meaning, it's still a masterpiece; this is just my take on it.
