I’m a foreigner. I’ve heard the terms Showa and Reiwa, but don’t know what they mean. Can somebody educate me?

When a new emperor accedes to the throne, the name of the original era changes. 1926 - 1989 is the" Showa" 1989 - 2019 is called "Heisei" 2019 〜 , it is called "Reiwa" This uniquely Japanese culture began in 645😊

This song is about that rebellion of young army and navy officers against the imperial Japanese government on Feb 26, 1936... 19 were beheaded, that's why "guillotine" was mentioned, and in Japanese, the falling of sakura implies the death of soldiers... this is indeed not an "I love Japan" song... Also talks about the inevitable westernization and the loss of Japanese culture over time.

I'm an American man who's 1/4 Japanese. Growing up my mother was treated harshly for not being completely white by her peers growing up. And never met my grandmother who came from Hokkaido to america after meeting my grandfather who was military in Japan. I listen to these songs to bring me close to a culture I never got to enjoy because of her lung cancer before I was born. Years of highschool learning hiragana, katakana, and kanji just to know somebody who isn't with us. Setsuko Suzuki thank you for making my love for culture diverse. And hopefully I meet my cousins someday...

+vitor santos Fusion music is cool. I watched Heartstring, a K-drama and in it the main female lead plays eastern style music because she uses a gayageum, like the Korean version of the Koto/Guzheng, meanwhile the male lead plays western style music with his electric/acoustic guitar. And they did fusion music, which is pretty cool. I think it was based on a classical piece, a western one too, called Carmen but kinda made it rock. It was originally a opera piece called L'amour est un oiseau rebelle
