If you decide to build an aviary for your dog yourself, you should consider a number of requirements for such structures. If you follow these principles, your pet will be comfortable and safe to live in such a house. Many dog breeders have asked about the comfort and safety of their pets and have derived the following rules for the organization of enclosures:
1. The size of the enclosure
Not surprisingly, one of the main factors in designing a dog's future home is its size. From many sources it was possible to allocate the following standards of the area for an open-air cage:
- if the height of your dog's neck is from 45 to 60 cm, the area should be at least 6 m2;
- From 50 to 60 cm in the neck - from 8 m2;
- more than 60 cm - the area of the aviary should exceed 10 m2.
It is worth noting that saving space can lead to negative consequences for both the physical and psychological health of your pet. But it is also not necessary to allocate too much space, because in winter the aviary still has to maintain air temperature.
2. The floor of the enclosure
Probably the most difficult question during the construction of this building. It is controversial even among experts. Many people prefer to line the floor with one material, often different species of wood. Others refer to the need to leave uncovered areas of land, as the pet is much more accustomed and comfortable to meet the natural need for soil.
In fact, the truth is in the purpose of the aviary. If your dog is in it almost all the time, the best solution is still a combination of wooden floor and open area. If you use an open-air cage for temporary overstaying or wintering, but a certain part of the day the animal moves quietly around the yard, the floor can be completely covered with wood. Also consider the nature of your four-legged friend, as some dogs can tear the ground and escape from the enclosure.
3. The walls of the enclosure
Keep in mind that the walls should not be deaf. Dogs are very interesting and socialized animals. They will be very happy to watch the situation in the yard, which will also have a positive effect on their security function.
Make at least one or two walls of mesh or any lattice material. Note that the wall material must be strong and free of any protruding or sharp elements, as the dog may be accidentally injured. For blank walls, choose more breathable materials, such as brick or wood.
4. Roof for the aviary
Many dog owners try to protect their pet from rain and other precipitation, so make a roof over the entire enclosure. This is quite acceptable, as well as the partial placement of the roof over the area. As a material for the roof, you can choose absolutely any option, but it is desirable to provide heat and sound insulation layers.
5. Aviary doors
The right decision is to make a door that opens inwards to secure the guests of your home. For the same purpose, provide a lock or latch on both sides of the door.
