Helicopters should not be allowed to cross paths like that in very loaded air spaces around airports. Especially not at night. Big tragedy.

The controller had a requirement to prevent this. One thing I noticed was he only asked the helicopter if he saw the plane. I noticed a second plane at a higher altitude. He should have asked if he saw the plane at bearing x.

Who the hell is this “expert?” Military and commercial aircraft are not on the same frequency! This isn’t like an open line. Commercial pilots cannot hear what military aircraft are doing. Expert my ass. Someone effed up bad. American was lined up on short final for landing…less then 7 seconds from landing. The Blackhawk was given explicit instructions to locate and pass to the rear of the commercial jet. The Blackhawk either lost sight of the airliner, or never had it to begin with. They most likely confused another aircraft with it.

He specifically said that they’re on different frequencies , but the air traffic controller can hear all the frequencies.

All aircraft in civilian airports should be required to be on the same VHF frequency. This lack of VHF in some military aircraft is based on old, heavy, expensive, tube filled radios. The much higher risk does not seem to outweigh the extra 6 ounces and $500 a VHF radio can be had for. Had the jet been able to overhear the choppers responses they would have been on high alert and likely noticed them first.

That helicopter should have never been allowed to cross the flight path of a landing plane... the landing aircraft had the RIGHT OF WAY... just like any vehicle intersection having a green light... end of discussion...

I heard don't know if it's true but I saw a news clip where the controllers in the control tower were short handed because DJT fired some if them to cut costs.

That is not true. No air traffic controllers have been fired to cut costs. Heads of Federal Agencies ("suits") have been removed that have nothing to do with the responsibilities of air traffic controllers working in towers.
