There isn't another channel that I look forward to seeing a new video drop more than Aviation 101. Rock on man. It also helps me in my current flight training.

Maaaaan this brought back memories. I used to work at BNA for about 5 years. Yes it is an extremely busy airport. And would you believe that there is a legit full service flight school that operates there?! It's called Tennessee Flight Training (TFT). They do brand new 0 time all the way to multi and everything in between. I was the A&P/Manager of Maintenance Operations there. It's over at Hangar 7, literally just a few hangers away from signature and jet right. I'm on a first name basis with most of the people on that side of the airport. I definitely did not expect to see that little corner featured in a video like this. Soooooo many amazing memories on the GA side of BNA.

Hi Matthew..... I remember you from my training time at Nashville Flight Training. I trained there with Kat. Merry Christmas!

Very well done, as always. Your mastery of the aircraft, excellent command of communications, and smooth and informative commentary is exemplary. The bonus of seeing Dad flying Niner Niner One was a real treat, and the sharing of a memorable father-son moment in time was icing on the cake. Safe travels.

I just wanted to say I really enjoy you videos, some of the best on KZbin. Watching them the last couple of years inspired me to get into flying and as of Oct 2024 I am a pilot at 61 years young.

I started my flight training almost 50 years ago at what is now a Class B - KCLE - Cleveland Hopkins Int'l, which back then was a major hub for United airlines, and minor for American and Northwest. Back then, us small fry GA aircraft were still -ummmm... tolerated would be a good word to use here - and many were still hangared there along with a couple of flight schools. No more. Anyway, you REALLY had to be on your toes with respect to radio calls! What made that difficult was that headset use for GA aircraft was rare - much less modern noise cancelling headsets! All we had back then was the wing-root speaker by the pilot's left ear, and the CB-style (again, showing my age!) microphone clipped by the trim wheel! That led to many a missed radio call!!! Now I have a noise-cancelling headset and a mic button on the yoke. Fantastic! GPS and Autopilot? Quantum leap in stress relief!!! Josh, just ask your dad about flying in 'the old days'.... Mine's long gone, but earned his PPL in what he called 'air-knockers' (Aeroncas😏 ) back in 1950!

I’m super happy to hear your input on the Bose headset. I have been super happy with my Lightspeed Zulu 1 and have been debating whether to change to Bose set. As people are always saying they are great. But I don’t know who Bose had give a set too or is paying them to say good things.

I work and fly out of BNA, it can get hairy. If you’re going to fly in, it’s recommended calling ahead to get the push times. If you’re not comfortable in busy airspace, fly into John tune and grab an uber. Smyrna and Lebanon are also close. BNA filed for bravo a few years ago. When the new tower gets built and the construction is completed, Nashville will be class bravo. I did my solo cross country through Ohio county….
@johnopalko522318 сағат бұрын
If the distortion is due to clipping in your audio recorder, you could try placing an attenuator (pad) in the input line. That way you can have the level high enough to hear in your headset without over driving your recorder.
@kimghanson15 сағат бұрын
Josh, your radio work sounds more professional than the airliners. It also sounded like ATC appreciated that.

Without knowing your recording setup .... Try finding a 32 bit float recorder... The gain doesn't matter with a 32 bit recorder (you can also turn the gain down on your recorder)... What you experienced is clipped audio and you're right, once you clip there's no recovering it.

I’m glad you recognized that the Bose’s sounded like they were “clipping” when you speak. The lightspeed’s sound so much better!

It’s a “super Charlie” because they expanded the size of the rings. I think they would have liked to make it a Bravo but it doesn’t meet all of the requirements yet (passenger volume I think…don’t remember for sure). There is an airport in southern Florida that is getting converted to a super Charlie as well.

For the Bose, did you try taking off the hat? I’ve found they do require a good seal to do the best ANR. Haven’t flown with a Lightspeed to know how they handle the break in seal

Interesting on the audio issue with the A20s. I use DC OneX and never really notice if I'm flying with someone using Bose but then I guess I wouldn't. Josh, do you notice any difference in fit and comfort between the Bose/Lightspeed/DC? I picked the DC specifically because they were more comfortable. BTW, it's so cool you and your dad share this! He looked pretty darn proficient at the controls and on the radio. Does he fly much?

So THAT'S what the audio issue was! I noticed last video it sounded a bit off, but I couldn't place it. And, this video I had to turn my volume down as soon as the intercom audio started, which is not the norm for your videos (usually audio balance is SPOT ON in these!) so it's good to know I'm not crazy 😅
