Avid CNC Dust Shoe Build. Using the files provided by Avid CNC I construct a dust shoe for my Avid Pro 4848. Having a dust shoe on the CNC is a MUST and this was a much needed addition to our machine.

Same, still waiting for delivery of Avid's 4x8. First CNC using primitive earthling tech.

@@MattesonCreations First time to own a CNC. I have operated many for work. This is going to be exciting. I have watched Avid CNC grow for years and the community is the best.

Keep the tool as short as possible, this will reduce noise and chatter.

@MattesonCreations You noted that you experimented with different screws to get a good attraction to the magnets. What type of screw did you settle on?

That dust shoe does a great job. What dust collector are you using with it?
@MattesonCreations
@MattesonCreations 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian. I have yet to commit to a large dust collector that can work with my whole shop so I have the CNC hooked up to an old 1 1/2 HP Penn State Industries dust collector with a 20 foot hose. This thing has been old faithful for me as I think it is at least ten years old.

Smaller bits probably create a higher pitch. I'm surprised the cut list milled out the enter center in the bottom piece. Seems like a waste of material and time.

Hey thanks for the comment. You have a valid point. I'm only speculating but the goal may have been to eliminate any lips or ridges inside the dust shoe as you would have if you just cut two circles and left a center piece remaining. But again, speculation. What I should have done is just cut the center piece out and saved it to make some clamps with instead of just milling it away.

@@MattesonCreations - You could have run a final finish cut on the inside of the hole to take care of that problem, however it's a personal choice. Good video nevertheless.

Hey there thank you for posting the informative video and I really like the comment anytime you're able to create something on the CNC it allows you to learn I'm in the same position and considering purchasing an avid CNC was wondering your thoughts on that particular brand as well...I had a question what size that machine is that you're using.. and if you were able to buy a larger machine would you have? Thanks again

Hi Richard! Thanks for watching. This is my first experience with a CNC router so I can't compare Avid to any other company, but so far I have absolutely nothing I would complain about. Machine and customer service have been great. My machine is 4 ft x 4ft. I could have purchased a larger machine, but I wanted to get a feel for using it and also am not sure if I'll be moving my equipment to a different shop some time in the future. So for now, 4ft x 4ft was enough. The nice thing about the Avid machines is that you can expand them rather easily, so for about $1200 and a few hours of building, I could expand my current machine to 8 ft which I probably will do some day.

What are those red bumpers called? I looked on their website, but couldn't find them. That's one thing I'm going to have to learn is the names for all of the hold downs and guide options for a spoilboard.

Hi David. I think you are referring to the bench 'dogs' that I am using. Assuming you are talking about the small round pieces on my spoil board that sit in the holes. I talk about them a little more in my spoil board video. In Version 2 of my spoil board I may switch to plastic ones because if a router bit accidentally hits these ... bye bye bit!
