Great Video! Excuse me for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Lantslay Bigger Man Domination (erm, check it on google should be there)? I have the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen as my interface, if I have Pro Tools/Logic, will the S1 work with my 18i20? Great video btw
@sweetwater11 ай бұрын
Hey, Josh! The Avid S1 is solely a control surface, so while it won’t “work” with your 18i20, it’s not intended to. Essentially, you’ll still record with your 18i20 as you always have. The S1 will then be used to control mixes, editing, etc. within Pro Tools or Logic. It is just controlling your recording software, not your audio interface. I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat any further! Nick Pasquino, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3230, nick_pasquino@sweetwater.com

I had an S1 thinking it would replace my 24 fader ICON D-Command (which is to me the best controller ever made for PT), it didn't and I sold it. The faders didn't feel great (too shallow and gritty feeling vs the pro feeling ALPS on the ICON), the buttons were too small/fiddly after the D-Command and the screens, while nice, were too busy/detailed which made it less intuitive than mixing at a bigger surface like D-Command (or C24). It was good though, if you don't have space/cash for the bigger stuff. The soft keys on the bottom were nice, displays were crisp, colour coding for tracks was good and expanded EUCON stuff in the tablet sat on it was powerful but I found I just don't like touch screens for anything related to mixing audio (I'd rather use mouse/keyboard on the monitor than touch screens), physical faders and knobs are worth it but the reliance on the iPad/visuals put me off and sent me back to the D-Command.

Can the S1 and dock station is compatible with 3rd party plugins within the Avid control app?

@sweetwater5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Chris! Thanks for your interest! As of right now, the only officially supported version of PT is 2019.10. That said, there have been people using as far back as 2018.12 that are able to use it just fine. It's highly recommended to get caught up to the latest version, especially with the current sales Avid is running! If you've got any other questions, feel free to give us a shout! Is there an Audio Output on the S1, or how are you monitoring your mix?
@theminotaurs3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's an audio interface, that's probably a separate device. This is just to control the DAW software, like ProTools, or Logic.

Hi there. Please help me out here... "compatible plugins" what does that mean, only AVID? I'm struggling to find a detailed presentation, on how the plugin parameters, are spread out on the rotary knobs? Are they as none logical as the Artist Mix = random order, so for example, the SSL channel strip, with take 5-6 pages to navigate? Or has there been an significant improvement here? Hope my question makes sense. 🙂 Thank you 🙏

S1, Dock, 2 iPads... ouch. That is the reason why I don't use Avid products any more. You pay all of this money for hardware, and you are still bound by an overpriced license to their software. Many years ago, Avid could have killed a lot of its competition by offering their products at a more reasonable price, but alas, they didn't, and the competition is here to stay. I own an old perpetual license for PT11, and that is the last bit of change that Avid will see from my pocket!
@frankymino87733 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. All that money for some faders and buttons to control software (which you can control with a mouse lol) Not to mention.... No dedicated master fader. Behringer have the x-touch with 8 motorized faders PLUS a dedicated master fader and so does the icon QCon Pro G2. So that's 9 faders. And they work very well. I like Pro Tools but will never splash out on their over priced and over rated hardware. Avid could have a much broader market if they offered controllers/hardware for the consumer/artist/home producer at a realistic price point. And also stop with their business model on their software subscriptions. I channel my wallet where it makes sense. And so do thousands of others.

Ok you lose some functionality the built-in interface is nice, & no aesthetically pleasing digital display on each channel, no cool magnetic sliders, but you still get full mapping none the less for about $1050 less idky anyone would buy this at that price point.
