I normally see people using claim/squid/worm and so on. I never someone using gulp. Is that a way to catch a bigger scup?

Yes, you do get bigger scup, its also fun by jigging. You will catch mostly bigger ones if you use just jig and hook without bait, work well when scup are hungry or early morning
