A lot of people think dips are an essential chest and triceps exercise, but the truth is that traditional bench dips can actually be quite hard on your shoulders. Let me explain why.
When you do dips on a bench, it often leads to internal rotation of the shoulders under load. This puts a lot of stress on the shoulder joint and can lead to pain and injury over time.
Instead, I recommend doing your dips using a dipping bar or set up. This allows you to maintain a more neutral shoulder position and reduces the risk of impingement. Keep your chest up, elbows tucked, and focus on driving through your palms to extend your arms.
Another alternative is to use an elastic band for triceps extensions. Loop the band over a sturdy overhead anchor point, then grab the ends and extend your arms down, keeping your elbows tucked. The band provides resistance without the same shoulder strain as dips.
The key is to avoid positions that force your shoulders into internal rotation, which is what often happens on a bench. Listen to your body, start light, and focus on good form. Your shoulders will thank you in the long run.

I just turned my arms out and don't go deep on the bench dip. I get a major pump and no shoulder strain. One of the best tricep exercises for me personally.
