I turn 56 in two months and although Father Time has taken a toll on our bodies we can still train and excel at Jiu Jiitsu. Wishing you all the best in your Jiu Jiitsu journey.

I’m in my late 40s - Black Belt, former competitor, currently running a school - I also work full-time as an orthopedic/sports medicine nurse practitioner - agree with everything you said - always important to keep one’s ego and check and not play a young man’s athletic/energetic game - those explosive movements will definitely lead to problems for us, older grapplers!Sometimes you do have to pick your partners or adjust your overarching rolling strategy - learn to work from bad positions and being patient - it can certainly be frustrating not being able to “out physical “people (not that that should be the majority of ones strategy, but it is nice to have it available at times!) Also frustrating when your body red lines a lot sooner - but learning to make those adjustments is all part of the game! Love your channel - keep making great videos - appreciate the insight - oss!🥋🤣🛡️⚔️

Thank you so much for your insights and I truly appreciate the kind words. I turn 56 in a couple months and it is frustrating someday not being able to do the things I was once able to do with no problems. However, I love Jiu Jitsu and it is worth making the life adjustments to keep training for me. Thanks for watching and if you are ever in San Antonio please stop in and train with me.

I'm a one-year blue belt about to turn 40 and have become selective about who I roll with. Big white belts and even some blues (I'm 5'5, 117 pounds) I regard with caution. I know I'll have safe and technical rolls with blues who are about to turn purple and higher.

A very good strategy and I do something similar. Thanks for watching.

What do you say to people that get offended when you don't want to roll with them? I'm 46 and I don't want to roll with brand new white belts.
@semperfortisjiujitsu2 ай бұрын
I know it can be awkward and uncomfortable to turn down training with other people, because you don't want to offend them. However, you have to put your safety and good health first. I think reasonable people will understand your concerns and if they don't then to me that reenforces in my mind why I shouldn't roll with them.

What do you think if a professor picks your sparing partner?
@semperfortisjiujitsu2 ай бұрын
A lot of schools the Professor picks who you roll with during class. I recommend talking to your professor about your health concerns in who you roll with and I am sure they will work with you. In some cases you may need to take rounds off while younger training partners will roll every round.
