The schools in Clovis teach for high test scores. The vibe is a little "Red Neck". Energy prices through PGE are very high and property taxes are raised the maximum amount every year in Fresno County. Clovis roads and streets are pretty good. Single males driving alone after 9 p.m. will get stopped and checked, especially Friday and Saturday nights. Minorities are under represented in Clovis. The best thing about Clovis are activities in Old Town and the close proximity to the mountains, lakes, and national parks.

To help combat allergies: replace your HVAC filters, invest in a home air purifier, vacuum weekly, clean up after animals and their dander

I grew up in the Valley’s rural west side, but have lived in Clovis almost 20 years. Moved here for the schools and relative safety and I’m happy we did! Politics here are right-leaning, I’m not, but most folks are friendly and I’ve got lots of friends I love that I don’t politically align with. The heat sucks, but I guess I’m acclimated (probably from doing farm labor work in the valley starting around age 12). Nobody LIKES the heat, but it’s never stopped me from getting things done, no matter how hot it gets. All told, if I can’t live at the coast, this’ll do!

It's been scorching hot in the Central Valley this 4th of July weekend. We visited a friend in Visalia, and it felt like being in a burning inferno. It was miserable, and you didn't want to step outside, even at 8 pm. We finally felt some relief when we got back home to Long Beach, where it was in the mid 80s with a cool breeze.

I hope you had a nice visit at least, aside from the weather! It was 111 degrees in Clovis yesterday. We are heading to Monterey this weekend to avoid the 116 highs. Thankfully, it usually tapers off toward the beginning of August.

Up and outside at 6AM and stop by 10AM. INSIDE the remaining of the day. At 8 PM it might cool down a bit. You survive the heat.

Very wrong! The central valley is not the desert. The Central Valley of California has areas that are dry enough to be considered desert, but the region is also home to a variety of other ecosystems.

Good point, thanks for clarifying! It is technically a dry Mediterranean climate. Thank goodness for irrigation!

Allergy remedies, we moved to Clovis in 2013 and my hubby had bad allergies like he never had before. We started buying local honey and he would take a spoonful every day for 2 months during the worst times of the year for a year. After that no more allergies.

Need to do one on Fresno because it's Clovis's really big neighbor and when you drive into Clovis there's not much difference. North Fresno is newer and central is older

When we got here 20 years ago, we bought NE Fresno and still got the good schools at the little less on the house. Willow and Shepard were still a 4-way stop, I miss being on the end of town.

Here’s what’s better for allergies. BEE POLIN Natural, organic If possible, local. Start with one little grain of it with water, like a pill. Work yourself up to half teaspoon once a week. Start in January. By allergy season, April. May. You will be set. No allergies.

Trader Joes, Aldi's, Ulta,bike and walking paths, Target, and loads of restaurants. If you're LDS or conservative Christian. It's perfect. Unitarian and Buddhists churches share a parking lot. Nice and flat for bike riding. Christmas lights are a big deal there! Enjoyed living there for four years and would still be there except grandbabies are in SoCal.

I don't know if it is still so or not, but it used to be that significant numbers of families in Fresno moved to Clovis "because of the good schools;" that was code for "White students." And the schools stress competition above all else, from kindergarten through high school. Good students in Fresno can place into better public schools than anything Clovis offers. It has been my observation that the stress on competition warps the characters of the children--- and it doesn't guarantee the best results.

What is the average spent on utilities a month in a 1700 sqft house?
@LivingInClovisCA3 ай бұрын
Hey, great question! There are some resources online through City of Clovis that show Utility Rates from 2023. Trash, water, recycle, street sweep, etc…it will vary a bit depending on the area. From those I have asked, it will range between $50-150 (probably closer to the middle) per month. The big expense this time of year is electricity because of the extreme heat. Our bill the last two months has been just under $500 (moderate usage without solar) with a few others expressing similar numbers. On a normal month, we expect to see between 200-300.
@shannonperez9408Ай бұрын
