Having clean notes doesn't change the exchange rate but more whether your cash will be accepted! Any dirty, creased, or notes that have been written on will not be accepted. I always ordered £50 notes from the bank well in advance of my trip and only took those in absolutely pristine condition. Happy travelling!

17 years in thailand and this is the first accurate video i have seen . Mostly made by newcomers to thailand like dan and joe about thailamd who give out wrong info.Just 1 point not quite correct monsoon mosly end at the end of september. now sept 29 and rains stopped on 25. . Oct to feb is the best time to visit. .One good point is atm mchines ,i left my card in 3 times and had to cancel it . Lucky it was a thai card but if yours was a foreign card woild be a big problem . These days the machine does beep until you take your card out

Not so much a miatake to watch out for but a helpful tip. If you can, let a Thai person buy whatever it is you want from street shops/markets in tourist areas. The ATM card warning is very relevant, I did that at the airport a few years ago, jetlagged, and running on autopilot. Luckily, I suddenly remembered a couple of hours later, and successfully froze my card. Best to take half a dozen direct debt cards, as some ATM's can be 'moody' and not accept a card that you might have used the previous day.

Thanks for the comment. It depends how fluid you want your trip to be and how flexible your plans are. If you want security and no stress of booking once here; book ahead of time. If you want to have more of an itinerary and know what you want to do already, it makes sense to book ahead to save yourself time money and stress once here. The only real perk of booking as you go is that you can change your plans anytime and be flexible with them 👍

Some comments: For cash.. sure, bring some of your local cash for emergencies but for travelling a multi-currency Wise account/Visa debit card is your best friend for best rates/easiest payment in pretty much all countries including Thailand. You can add the card to your phone wallet for contactless payment in larger places, to your Grab account so no fiddling with change, or to get Baht with no fee at an ATM Yes you can rent a bike/scooter easily but double check your travel insurance (which, yes, is a no-brainer to have) that you're covered. Many won't cover you if you don't have a motor bike licence from your own country. Re water: a travel water filter (I use a Waterman) is brilliant. Small, weighs little, and they do work. I travel in lots of no-drin-kthe-water places and never get sick. Oh and another little tip. A BTS all day public transport card seems like a good idea to get around Bangkok, but it doesn't cover the Metro so it's IMHO, a scam :)

I think people get a bit over concerned with the tap water. Tap water is used to wash all dishes and cultery in. Salad vegetables are washed in tap water. People use tap water to clean their teeth. Tap water gets in one's eyes having a shower. I think an eye infection is significantly worse than a few hours on a toilet. Also people swim in swimming pools, tap water. Shopping malls and office building have water cooled air-conditioning that potentially can harbour disease, tap water. I really don't understand why people just have a thing with tap water. I use tap water every day for coffee, tea, cleaning vegetables, cooking etc. I get water from the local water machine, which is apparently UV filtered for about 60 satang (0.6 baht) a litre for ice and cold drinking water.

I get it, I’m less stressed about it now and brush my teeth with it but when I first done it, toilet o’clock… I’d never drink it though and I think if you get unlucky it’s not just a case of a few hours on the toilet. As i live and work in Bangkok +15 years and speak pretty acceptable Thai i only haggle heavy when they give me a outrageous "falang" "tourist"price The ice cube thing is a story from Old Thailand 30 years ago, now its clean factory ice. And i would add: Don't EAT in the overpriced tourist places, normal local Thai street vendors and restaurants live on their REPUTATION and get shut down extremely fast by locals if they are dirty or cheating. That does not apply on all the overpriced places in obvious tourist spots like khao san road etc

Do not learn how to ride a motorbike in Thailand! Thailand does not have a GOOD SAMARITAN law. This means that if you assist someone medically, you are liable personally and criminally if your aid results in further injuries or death. Bystanders will watch you bleed to death or go into cardiac arrest and no one will act to save your life due to fear of lawsuits or criminal prosecution. If you choose to ride a motorbike in Thailand, make sure you have very good medical travel insurance! As a foreigner, you do not qualify for free healthcare in Thailand. You will not be able to leave the country until you pay your hospital bill.

@@josh.onthemove - In Thailand, there is a DUTY TO RESCUE law. This means that you have a duty to rescue someone from imminent danger of injury or death. For example, you can be prosecuted for not rescuing a driver from a burning car or saving a drowning person when it is safe for you to do so. Don't confuse Duty to Rescue with Good Samaritan laws! Here is an example, you have a duty to rescue a drowning person but if you perform CPR which breaks the ribs of the victim, you can be held personally and criminally for the broken ribs. The drowning victim can sue you for causing his broken ribs when you tried to save his life.

The Philippines was super fun and I rode everywhere, but big difference in Thailand, big difference. #7 is HUGE. PICK A SPOT. Great advice. Thailand, done right is still expensive, you can burn thru tons and tons easy. If you want to save, go somewhere else. Thailand is amazing, but it's pricey. No joke. Great list. The scams are elaborate. But over all, I'm immune. Pay attention to what type of water taxi, it's only 16BAHT, or it is 40BAHT for the tourist boat, but it is displayed so it is not a scam, but the other fare, well, you have to find it basically. THAI people have been very friendly to me so far. Lots of rules. Follow them.

I have lived in Thailand for 20 years. I can't remember when I last haggle, but it was probably with a taxi driver. I don't even get much opportunity to haggle. I don't haggle my condominium fees, utilities - electricity, water, phone or wifi, food at supermarket, clothing at shops in malls, taxi meters, BTS, MRT, songtel, airfares, train, bus, river boat, hotel accommodation, TV, fridge, phone, fans. In local food and clothing markets, I don't haggle. The price is displayed is reasonable, people who in area buy their food every day. Vendors are not going to display stupid prices to their long-term customers and local community. I don't usually haggle with taxi drivers, usually ask for the meter. No meter, I just walk away. Parked taxis are usually more problematic than the ones that you wave down. The only times that haggling is required during a rain storm or near a large event - concert etc. Very obviously, like everywhere on this planet, if one wants cheaper prices avoid all nightlife areas, tourist areas, upmarket suburbs and shops. In relation to dressing modesty, a Thai person told me a joke. He asked what is the difference between a local prostitute and a foreign tourist? Answer, the local prostitute has more clothes on. Which is true if one has ever been to a tourist beach in Phuket and seen the dental floss swimwear. 😂

It is 100% better to bring your money to Thailand and exchange it there as they will give you the proper exchange rate as I was going to exchange my money in England before I left and the exchange rate was not good at all as I hade one official shop telling me 38 and bank telling me 41 but I Thailand the exchange stall gave me 43 and I even found a spot giving 44 which isn't a small difference when you exchanging hundreds or even thousands of pounds, dollars or euros. Also I wouldn't go for a low cost hotel as you want to have a good accommodation that offers you everything you need and is clean and well taken care of. Small but of advance is use Grab app to order cabs as you can't trust the prices of the others who just flag you down like tuk tuks or random cabs trying to catch your attention.

it is far from best to bring your own money. the country i come from, for example, does not buy back our own currency due to eu rules so our money is basically worth 0 down in thailand. i have seen examples where people are offered less than 20% of the exchange rate because the money changers themselves have difficulty getting rid of them again and I can see that you have than even recorded proven . dkk to baht just under 5 they will pay you 2 according to the sign you filmed I have just exchanged I got 20000 baht for 4310 dkk(630$) at home if I only got x2 it would only give me 8/10000 baht so I would be cheating myself out of a lot of money if I followed your advice btw the Norwegian krone is also more than double what they priced it at so you just lost 50% by bringing your home currency so it's probably much cheaper to pay a $10/$30 bank fee than to lose 50% on exchange rates
