I really enjoy your insights into life in Sweden. It is always fun to see how people from other countries who live in Sweden find their way into the sometimes quirky Swedish culture. Cheers from Småland!

You've got it all and express it well, even the less flattering parts. You're an good example for any imigrant. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

0:26 Oh, no! Maybe it applies to work in an office. Most Swedes work in hospitals, factories, as policemen, Mines etc. Factories and Hospitals, Mines plus all others non office work work shifts 24/7 all year round! Many have between 400 and 600 overtime hours. Some shift work is twelve hours long. A typical shift is 6.00 am to 2.00 pm then 2.00 pm to 10 pm 10 pm to 6 am

Yes true. But you still work within your shift, no?

Thanks Robi, that was very interesting. I came to Sweden in 1970, and agree with everything you said! But while Swedes don't like boasting, they do have subtle ways of showing oneupmanship.

Jantelagen is more of "Dont stick out from the crowd and never ever pretend to be better than anyone else".

You can describe the Swedish menality better than I as a Swede understands it. Well done! 👍

The personal freedom is very important for swedes. It takes years to gain personal trust to anyone in Sweden. And do not introduce religious or cultural beliefs in your work (unless you are a priest etc). Swedes are kind of allergic to that, it violates your personal freedom as I mentioned in the beginning.

My goodness. It seems that only did 2 things right during my worklife. Lunch breaks together with colleges and no bragging. For the rest I was tottaly wromg. And still I am born and raised Swedish.

Good advice. That said I do quite often miss fika, miss lunch and work late. ^^ I have also lunched at my desk but then with non sticky non smelly food. And I’m quite popular at work (was that bragging?), at least I believe so haha.

Robi, thank you for the fantastic tips! I will be cautious when I come across Swedish friends, particularly when discussing comparisons. What do Swedish people like most? and what is Swedish dating culture like? Happy Birthday 🎉

You realy learned the social codes! But anyway.. as a swede.. nothing wrong with your explanations.. could help others to understand the mindsets of swedes! Working late.. is for me as a former uninon leader.. eigther for free.. thats bad.. or for those extra payments for owertime.. that last one should have your teamleaders/formans approval of! Its rather your teamleader/forman that should ask you to work owertime to get something redy at time! And you supose to get extra payment for that!

Jantelagen is definitely a thing, but it's also a thing that we joke about, or brake. Kind of ironically. So you can brag, but you have to do it with a glimpse in your eye. Trying to come up with examples, my kids all had straight A:s in School which is strange since neither me or their mother got any A:s Or I played guitar, but was never any good at it, so I started a rock band. Hashtag the ironic generation
